The first-level theme music from Pirate Pete is the snizzle! Had no idea that version ever existed, very cool.

Hi retroidroid, you've made a mistake in your testing - 511 is the horizontal resolution not vertical. 240 is the number of rows.

Of course you are correct.

When the game is set to "De-Interlacer Hi-Res: On" it must be outputting 511 x 480, since it uses the 31KHz mode lacks visible scan-lines or flickering.

Re: Tapper Arcade Video Resolution

I have a Wells Gardner 27d9200 tri-sync arcade monitor in my MiSTer Cabinet. If I run Tapper at native resolution ("vga_scaler=0") out of the VGA port on the IO board, I get the following output from MiSTer, based on what my monitor reports: With "De-Interlacer Hi-Res: Off", MiSTer banner reports 511x240 15.78KHz, 59.7Hz. My mon...

I had a love/hate relationship with the cocktail version of this game back in the day. The floaty controls drove me nuts! ...but it keeps you coming back for sure.

What kind of technical background do you have that you felt like you could take this on? Just curious.

Thanks a bunch.

Thanks for being willing to continue to work on it. I do have an HDMI display, but it's in a different room. Now that I know the config is a one time thing, I can tolerate moving the MiSTer for the purposes of configuration. Adding this configuration entry to the main Mister.ini file allowed me to see the screen long enough to configure the Hardwa...

I have a 28" CRT multi-freq. arcade monitor (in an arcade cabinet, of course). I can play 15.7Khz horizontal games at native freq.. I can rotate vertically orientated arcade games by enabling the scaler. I've found that using the following settings provides a fantastic authentic looking vertical-game presentation on the monitor: video_mode=6 (...

Re: How do I modify the MegaAGS clock speeds?

In the latest MegaAGS Another World is set to NTSC and runs in NTSC, no? Or are you running it from your own WB? Just using the stock MegaAGS distro. I can see in the Another_World.run file that it is specifying PAL5 and PAL, but only if it doesn't find the ENV variables that it uses to determine these values. It also lists Another World as Hardwa...

Re: How do I modify the MegaAGS clock speeds?

I'm having a similar issue. Trying to run Another World in NTSC, since I read that NTSC supports 24 fps, vs PAL 20. However, changing the .run file to use NTSC instead of PAL doesn't seem to do anything, still outputs at 50Hz.

Any ideas?

Wow, that was as near a perfect response as I can imagine! Exactly what I was hoping for, I'm up and running via "Easy Mode" for now. I am able to dump out to the desktop or whatever it's called as well to try different applications, etc.

Thanks! 8-)

Minimig Newbie Advice

I'd like to get the Minimig core working on my setup, with a VGA CRT monitor via analog output.

However, I have no hands-on experience with Amigas at all, and the documentation I've seen isn't tailored to the MiSTer core and seems daunting at best.

Can anyone point me to a tutorial of any kind on how to get this working?

Any help is appreciated.

Re: Donkey Kong: Walking Sound Hack?

You are looking for the analog equivalent of an FPGA, which is an FPAA to handle this properly. They do exist but would need someone with the technical chops to interface with a DE10-Nano. I saw one for sale but it’s a bit pricey and has been in “restocking” status forever. https://zrna.org/shop I am sure there are other FPAAs that actually can be...

Re: External speaker amplifier makes loud pop when switching cores and turning on/off?

Are you using the analog audio jack on the IO board? The solution is to instead use the optical output (from the same port) and run it through a DAC.

"According to some crude string matching, just barely over half of users use some kind of CRT" That's actually a a fairly big result, for what is usually portrayed as tiny minority. LCD use is about 77.5% Also CRT use is a dead end, as there no more CRTs being made, really. Sure there that one guy who makes CRT Tubes for special case sce...

Re: MiSTer FPGA Community Survey Results

There is no way to realistically post-stratify these results to adjust for things like sampling bias. I mention sampling bias because the kind of person that responds to this survey may be a more enthusiastic and engaged MiSTer user which might oversample for CRT users. So we'll never really know how to fully interpret the results. So it's a fun s...

You want accuracy, you get beeps at start up.
Sure, but they shouldn't exist outside of the MiSTer volume and mute controls. So I'd consider this issue a "bug" for that reason, at least.

Re: Why do some cores play a very loud BEEP when booting?

Some sort of either a delay or fade-in on core load would be nice. I think modern car stereos do this when you turn on a car, so you do not blast your eardrums out. Yes that would work, or just disconnect the audio from the core until it has finished booting and then re-connect (about the time that the resolution displays on the screen. So, if one...

That would make sense. I am also using SPDIF output on the analog IO board.
Hopefully this can be looked at, and is a framework fix instead of a per core one.

Why do some cores play a very loud BEEP when booting?

I've noticed that many arcade cores will emit an obnoxious beep tone when they are launched, well before any ROM has bootstrapped or the resolution mode information appears on the screen. One example is Victory. It also emits this sound even when the MiSTer audio is muted. On my system with amplified speakers connected it really is annoying. Is thi...
