[) I provided a list of what color matches the closest for each number 1-14. Did you provide this? I thought this was "handpicked".

Oh you're right - it is the list (not the picture of RGB).
Maybe we need to have a custom palette option so you can load what you want ... will give it a try at some point

Re: Apple II Core

if you can create a new RBF using my monitor's color based on the photo for the IIc palette, that would be great! I already did :) Check the attachment in my post above: https://misterfpga.org/viewtopic.php?p=86672#p86672 No, this is my monitor. https://i.imgur.com/vOvLkAg.jpeg It could be the adapter; I think early A.V. adapters had their own clo...

Re: Apple II Core

I have an actual Apple IIc NTSC composite monitor. When I set the core to B&W mode, it shows everything in black and white. Is this your monitor by any chance? https://oldcrap.org/2019/05/14/apple-iic-monitor/ Also does your IIc have some kind of dongle to connect to the video-port, allowing to plug a "regular" composite jack to it? ...

Re: Apple II Core

I would call this "Composite Out" once we get it dialed in perfectly since it is only for use with composite output. Just curious, is there a specific reason why you are using colors from the core in composite mode? Could you try it with the Black & White mode? The intended use with Composite video is to set the core in Black & W...

Thanks for working on this and for your reply. I will work on this when I have more time. I have company coming and will be quite busy for a few weeks preparing and visiting. No rush. Re: Apple II Core

Here is a side-by-side comparison of your picture and an HDMI video capture. It's fairly close - I can probably get it better by tinkering a bit more with capture settings and filters. The only color that does not seem to match at all is Light Blue (COLOR 7); but the rest look very close to me. Top MiSTer FPGA Apple II core, screenshot of HDMI vide...

Re: Apple II Core

One more small request, could you take screenshots of Karateka in your display? I want to see how the floor appears in composite color (some people say it should be gray - although its not something we can do with the core at the moment) Edit: here is a website showing you how C64 (VIC/VIC II) NTSC colors change when you adjust the "knobs"...

Re: Apple II Core

As a follow up, my guess is the composite hardware in the IIc combined with the hardware in the IIc monitor generates the correct colors. Well, yes. Composite color is created by artifacting on your NTSC CRT from a pure black & white picture. Can you try comparing colors between your IIc and the core running in black & white mode? That sho...

Re: Apple IIGS MiSTer Core Progress

The Apple IIgs 16 color palette used by the Apple IIe mode was documented by Apple themselves in the "Apple IIgs Technical Note #63":
https://archive.org/details/IIgs_252306 ... s/mode/2up

One thing I notice that the blue is much darker than the same color in the Apple IIe, and the yellow is much more vibrant

Here is a comparison of the palettes:
(AppleWin not pictured)

you can see the earlier core colors are quite off (especially one of the grays), and the IIgs is much more vivid

Why is an ao486 config file required? It seems shared by all games. Can we set it manually?

I tried Alone in the Dark and it failed to run, and that's the only file I did not copy.

A lot of what you guys describe reminds me of the Retrobut Saturm Pro controller. I has 6 face buttons, analog sticks and shoulder buttons... Anyway its not possible to cater for all cores... earlier consoles and computers need paddles and longer analog joysticks, and so on... Personally, I like the Hori Fighting Commander for anything that does no...

The exe flags as a virus because it was built with py installer. Its safe to use, im happy to share the py script with anyone concerned.
https://github.com/pyinstaller/pyinstaller/issues/5854

Just put the .py script on github and let people use MiSTer's Python to run it - no need to add additional dependencies or downloading .exe files.

Re: "rolling screen" when starting a core : long-term harm for CRT ?

Looking at your INI file, why is this commented out?

Code: Select all

;video_mode=0

Are you using an analog IO board (or equivalent), or are you using direct video? In the latter case you will need to check any settings that can affect the HDMI signal

during the rolling effect (about 2 seconds ), a core is already loaded and the signal is not dropped (because I see the message "Kbd mode..." on the screen. But I can't tell if it's from the "targeted" core or MiSTer main menu core !) If I understand you correctly, you are seeing a stable box with the OSD saying "'kbd mode...

If you mean my image, there is a bug which makes keyboard operations freeze sometimes unless SPACE is pressed. It's got something to do with using bob_fossil's LFN browser. Not just your image, I have another image which I couldn't get to work. It is a pack of games from the Zx-Uno community. I managed to fix it by removing all system files and co...

Re: ESXDos, is it possible?

Thanks both! Yes, the image from akeley works fine if I use the same boot1.rom .... but not the others. It seems a bit finicky, as in the core can sometimes get into a bad state and won't respond in the same way, but usually a cold reboot (going back to MiSTer menu) seems to work fine. I suppose I might be able to fix my other .vhd image by updatin...

I'm quite confused by this menu; I was expecting the core to boot into ESXDOS instead.

Is it a patched ESXDOS? (i.e. maybe my boot1.rom is incorrect)

After every reboot, the Party is empty and characters need to be Added from the Tavern.
Anyone know if that's all standard Wizardry behavior?

I'm not sure but I think it happened to me on the Apple II in general.
They are not "out", i.e. you don't have to run the recovery tool to get them.

There's an improvement in that created characters are persistent between boots, but the core is still locking up when I use the *ROSTER command at the Training Grounds or when I try to Add characters at the Tavern. You might need to disable the write protect option, I've experienced lock ups on other games when the core was trying to write. But fo...

Yes, your idea is possible. If you just use the DE10 (without MiSTer extensions) you will have plenty of GPIO pins available. If you use a MiSTer setup you will be restricted by the GPIO pins available (I think it's 8? and there is unofficial hardware using 9 pins). Might be enough if the c64 uses a serial protocol (with low pin count on the connec...
