Re: The State of DACs for the MiSTer and Direct Video
Probably useless for most MiSTer users, but it would be interesting also to see Jim Drew's (CBMStuff) IO board's analogue video tested. This board seems to be of better quality than the standard IO board, and the manual for it specifies "three 6-bit linear R2R ladders to provide a 18 bit (6-6-6) DAC color output. The each leg of the resistor l...

Re: NES Composite Output
Now that CVBS and Y/C output support has been added to MiSTer Main, I'm wondering if a future NES core update will be able to provide a more authentic NES composite output. For me the dot crawl discussed here is part of the original's appeal, but more so the colors that the PPU outputs directly, since no RGB palette has ever looked as authentic or ...

Re: New MSX Core In The Works
As a casual who just wants to explore the gaming library, I still find this core better and easier to use, simply loading ROMs from the OSD rather than waiting forever for them to unzip in Sofarun with the other core, which may end up being deprecated once the MSX2 core matures.
BTW, is it possible to save for games like Dragon Quest?

Questions about SNES Specific GPM-02 LPF Audio Filter
I recently noticed that there is a SNES specific audio filter available called GPM-02 LPF. I gave it a try and it does what you would expect from an LPF and does a nice job giving the audio a more old-school "analogue" feel. But I'm wondering if this filter was titled GPM-02 due to simulating the particular characteristic of a SNS-CPU-GPM...

Re: MiSTer Downloader Tool
What's the database for mame and hbmame games to add to downloader.ini for the PC launcher of Downloader? My MiSTer cannot connect to the internet, so I need to keep the mame and hmame ROM folders updated via PC. Thanks for any tips.

Re: Gameboy Color - Desaturated Colors
Just for clarification, the default colors on this core are not "desaturated", but are meant to simulate the specific color space used in the original reflective GBC screens. What the topic creator called "real" colors, or "raw"/"original", are technically incorrect for GBC games, but they are also what many ...

Re: CRAM color palette dots option
Thank you for the instructions, although it took over 3.5 hours to compile on my old Windows laptop, it works as expected!
I also realized this should also be added to the MegaCD core, I imagine you simply would need to copy the same commit to it.
Thanks again for all you do!

Re: CRAM color palette dots option
Thank you so much paulbnl for answering my prayers!
Could you (or retrorepair) please attach a build with this option incorporated? Not sure when a public release will be updated next. Or if you can point me to instructions on compiling the .rbf myself I can try to do so.
Again, thank you!!

CRAM color palette dots option
Apologies if this has been discussed and settled already, but I was wondering if devs have considered enabling to display the CRAM color dots, which usually appear on the lower overscan area during some game scenes. An example: https://i.redd.it/ym39kqd6v8d01.jpg This is probably the only thing the Genesis core is missing to really make you feel li...

Re: GBA Core and BVM Question
The MiSTer has a scaler function that can work for the "VGA"/analogue output just as it works on the HDMI digital output. But if your monitor is not multisync the scaled output may not be displayable on it.

Re: Your favorite NES palette?
Unfortunately none. After spending several years hunting for the perfect palette, or at least a few of them to choose based on what fits a given game best, I just learned to stop worrying and love the original hardware composite. This is really the only reason why my MiSTer can't replace the original, unlike several other systems. Cool to see new p...

Re: Palette Options
No, that's not correct. The HuC6260 has a color lookup table for the conversion from RGB to Y/R-Y/B-Y which is not a direct translation. I didn't know this. In that case only the palette approach suggested by the original post would work. Fortunately this is not like the NES situation where no palette can accurately represent the NTSC colors fully...

Re: Palette Options
You may achieve something similar by using an RGB to composite converter, and just let the NTSC decoder on your monitor process the colors in the same way that it would have for the original composite output of the OCE. The VGA2NTSC could be used for this conversion.

Re: Multi-player games [Solved]
I'll post a Multitap/Turbotap related question here to avoid cluttering the board. Is it possible to assign a second gamepad to a given port in the multitap? Some games give access to debug modes and other easter eggs by entering button combinations on a controller on a controller port as high as port 5. It would be kind of a PITA to have to use a ...

Re: Just wanted to say awesome work srg320 and Sorgelig!
First I want to join everyone in congratulating and thanking everyone who worked on this core, especially since the recent updates that added CD support as well as virtually perfect accuracy. This may be the first core that can be easily argued to provide a 100% superior experience compared to real hardware. Once again, amazing work, and thank you!...
