Nevermind, seems this was a one-time glitch, I can pair devices properly now.

Re: New MiSTer hardware board
While the subsidized low cost of the DE-10 Nano makes everything else a non-starter as far as price goes, I think we should all consider the very real possibility that the DE-10 Nano might eventually be discontinued. I'd say it would make a lot of sense to explore alternative options (preferably an open design) before that happens.

Bluetooth pairing dialog un-pairs every existing device?
I'm trying out native Bluetooth support (ie. not a 8bitdo dongle) again after unsuccessful results last time (about a year ago). (Been using a 8bitdo dongle until now, but was annoyed of being able to use only one controller at a time, and not being able to set different key bindings per controller since they are all seen to the MiSTer as the same ...

Re: Composite Adapter for MiSTer
So are those issues only specific to composite and not S-video? In any case, count me in as another satisfied customer of your adapter, as I described here , although it's worth noting that I'm using it strictly for S-video. BTW, to OP: I don't know the differences between a 1701 and 1702, but if your 1701 has "chroma" and "luma"...

Re: IO Board VGA 5v Jumper
The VGA connector spec has a dedicated pin for +5V. It would be absurd for anything to have problems from it since it's how a VGA port is supposed to behave in the first place. Anything that doesn't need it will just not wire it, or else they would be literally asking for trouble. Assuming a passive cable with no extra processing, your component ca...

Re: Best / easiest way to connect to a Sony PVM-14N5U monitor?
Quick update: Got my Antonio adapter today. The reason I bought it was to connect my (analog i/o board equipped) MiSTer to my Commodore 1702 monitor, via S-video (and a 2xRCA to S-video adapter, which I already owned). Looks ok so far, although the entire picture seems slightly too red. Might just be that monitor's fault, though, it has seen better...

Using the 8bitdo dongle, I had to redefine buttons after this update. Seems it's no longer recognized as the same internal ID??

Re: Best / easiest way to connect to a Sony PVM-14N5U monitor?
Antonio hasn't made this public for some reason, but his composite adapter has issues, and he has a new version he has been working on. I would hold off on buying any of his current models. I bought one and have significant buyer's remorse. He told me in an email that I can buy the next version to fix the issue I was having (significant artifacts ...

Global vertical mode?
I want to hook up my MiSTer to a HDMI display at my desk that is kept in vertical orientation at all times (and there is not enough room to rotate it without reorganizing my entire workspace). Is there a way in MiSTer to set the scaler to always render in vertical orientation globally? (And before anyone mentions the "osd_rotate" ini opti...

Re: Is 128MB Ram the most we'll ever need?
I'm interested in this too. I would assume if N64 were to drop in the distant future it would probably need more than 128mb for some games (my memory may be failing me there). Maybe DS? Were there any +128mb DS carts? I could be wrong but I think DS cartridges were not ROMs mapped directly to the CPU, so it shouldn't be necessary to run them from ...

Of course it knows when writing begins, what it can't automatically know is when it ends, because again, it's not an operation with a "open" and a "close". With that said, some emulators work around this by waiting for the writes to have ended for a given period of time as a sign that ok, the game is probably done writing a sav...

Re: Autosave
I still don't understand why SRAM isn't just saved when it happens, I suppose maybe to avoid massive amounts of data being written to SD or to avoid writes being interrupted by a power off? It's not much of a hardship to press the menu button but it's also not clear that this is needed IMHO. It's not that simple, SRAM is literally just RAM that's ...

Re: Autosave
All SNES games were required to have a metadata block for certification purposes that describes various details about the intended cartridge (memory sizes, map mode, enhancement chips, etc.). It is not read by the real hardware but happens to be extremely convenient for emulators and such (unlike systems like the NES where the emulation/copier scen...

I had a 486SX 50MHz growing up, and while Doom was certainly playable, the framerate still fluctuated wildly (unless I stared at a wall or something).
It’s only when I upgraded to a Pentium 133MHz that I finally got to experience Doom at its full 35 FPS glory.

Re: 8bitdo USB adapter gets stuck and registers no input after hard reboot
I think I had the same thing happen to me yesterday after an update. It triggered a hard reboot and then my dongle simply did not respond to any controller input until I fully power cycled.
It was annoying but since one shouldn’t need to hard reboot often I’m not too bothered. At least now I know what to do if it happens again.

Re: Nintendo VS. System & PlayChoice-10
PlayChoice-10 games can already run without any modifications in the NES core. A PlayChoice-10 is really just a RGB NES managed by an additional Z80-powered system on top of it. I don't think there would be much point in a PC-10 core, unless someone REALLY wants that second screen UI. True Vs. System support in MiSTer would be interesting though, s...

Re: Most Compatible BIOS files for MegaCD Core?
Seems the core now looks for cd_bios.rom recursively down the directories, making it easy to split up your images into directories for each region, with a single cd_bios.rom for each region. That's pretty cool! Even though the region free hacked bioses exist, it feels cooler to see the BIOS of the game's matching region pop up at launch.

The MegaCD core's README doesn't recommend running from zipped disc images. However it seems to run ok for me so far? Does anyone else do this, or have you had any problems that made you not do it anymore?

Re: HDMI to Scart adapter
This is the VGA to SCART cable I use for my MiSTer: http://amigakit.amiga.store/product_info.php?products_id=919 It was relatively cheap and is doing a suitable job for my needs, but has caveats. First, despite having a 3.5mm plug for sending the audio through SCART I don't actually use it and pass sound through a separate cable instead, as I found...

Re: Arcade Controller
For MiSTer, real NES/SNES/Genesis (via their respective 8bitdo Bluetooth dongles) and Nintendo Switch usage I have this 8bitdo N30 wireless controller. I performed two modifications to it: 1) I hated the stupid Xbox-style stock button layout, it didn't result in a pleasant layout when using it with the 8bitdo NES/SNES/Genesis dongles, so I physical...

Re: Universal 12-button Controller
At the risk of sounding snarky, I would say the ideal d-pad would be an actual, real d-pad and not some sort of hybrid thing, that is kinda the most important input to get right if you want your controller to be pleasant to use. Love the idea of a touchscreen for number pad buttons though. It might not be the best for every game, but it would neatl...

Re: Universal 12-button Controller
If you want to create a controller that works well for every single MiSTer core, you will need to have at least the following: 1 analogue stick 1 good digital pad at least 8 action buttons (ABXY + LR + start + select) a number pad with 12 buttons a home / menu / OSD key (optionally) a switch to turn on/off mouse emulation, or a mouse pad People (i...

Re: What Does "BIOS Enable" Do?
Did some digging into the disassembly of the Japanese v2.1 ROM, turns out the cartridge detection code incorrectly detects a cartridge, hence why the demo screen never shows up. A quick hack you can do to make it work on MiSTer is to open the ROM in a hex editor and change the byte at address 0x0118 to C9. This bypasses the cart detection routine c...

Re: What Does "BIOS Enable" Do?
You can put a BIOS file in the SMS folder and rename it to boot.rom so it gets loaded at the core startup. It won't show up on subsequent games, of course, but that's good enough for me!
On a related note, it seems the Japanese v2.1 BIOS (the really cool Space Harrier-themed one) does not seem to work on MiSTer for some reason??
