I've bumped into same problem when trying to use the scaler to play vertical arcade on my pvm. Looks like the scaler is calculating the a 3:4 viewport correctly (240px vertical / 180px horizontal) but it doesn't do any horizontal downscaling. I like the sharp image produced by my PVM but sometimes I feel like playing the games, the way I remember them in from childhood, with a bit of blending. The Composite Blend scale filters are doing a great job creating the picture that I'm after, but for them to work on my CRT I need to force vga_scaler=1 and set a video_mode . Make sure you haven't changed the SW10 dip switches by mistake, compare them to one from this image:
