Re: Apple II Core

Dang it I just ordered a used Canon EF 100mm f/2.8 Macro lens because I want better close up photos like my phone can do. I will take my photos with that after it arrives and after my company leaves. This will help with my future photos for akeley too.

Re: Apple II Core

Well, I have the answer, it is from my list for the composite output. The colors look much better on my monitor now! I would call this "Composite Out" once we get it dialed in perfectly since it is only for use with composite output. Here is a photo from my phone which is not as good as my previous pictures but will have to do for now sin...

Re: Apple II Core

Thanks! Is the new version for RGB using my photo, or for composite using my list? If it is for RGB I would compare my TV with component to the IIc since the composite might muck up the color, but also will check the IIc monitor for curiosity's sake. The gamma adjustment will be interesting too. The third color and brown are quite different IMO also.

Re: New Analog I/O Board v8.1 In the Works

I was referring to the latest HW design. Personally I would not touch a design that relies on forked cores, because you are dependent on someone else to do the work and maintain the forks. If you feel happy doing this then thats fine too. The HDMI output has been 24 bit from the start and via the dongles a 24 bit Analog signal could be obtained if...

Re: Apple II Core

Thanks for working on this and for your reply. I will work on this when I have more time. I have company coming and will be quite busy for a few weeks preparing and visiting. Having an adjustable palette like the knob would be very cool. In the meantime I still like my actual colors better that are accurate with all the descriptions like light blue...

Re: New Analog I/O Board v8.1 In the Works

If it wasn't for your comment, I would never have found Antonio Villena's shop. I'm looking at his MINI IO. It says it has a RGB888 video DAC. Can't find much on the internet about it, how good is it? I like it a lot. If you want 24-bit out the VGA port, you have to download his specific cores for it. It looks great with everything out of the box ...

Re: Apple II Core

I[*] new maths-derived //e NTSC palette (1) As a follow up, my guess is the composite hardware in the IIc combined with the hardware in the IIc monitor generates the correct colors. Both may be different than standard composite, but work well together. This might explain why the math-derived ones look wrong, but I have no idea. Also, are the HGR c...

Re: 2Player Arcade games - Controls question

I have been trying a few things but havent been successful. I thought of a way to do this. In your MiSTer.ini file, make a section for the core with [corename] and define multiple player_1_controller lines. I actually was the one that requested this feature lol. See the player_4_controller line for what you want probably, and it probably would onl...

Thanks! When I get a chance, I will hook this up to my Apple IIc monitor with composite and compare with my Apple IIc. I mentioned I will do this in the IIgs thread, but I haven't gotten time yet. It might be a few weeks because I have company coming soon. It will be interesting to try the different palettes to see which is the most correct. Maybe ...

Re: 2Player Arcade games - Controls question

If your two controllers each have their own encoder, as you suggested, and each encoder is the "same" as each other, then you should only need to map the buttons for the first controller. The MiSTer sees the first USB controller you touch as the player 1, and the second USB controller as player 2, and both have the same button mapping. If...

Re: Apple IIGS MiSTer Core Progress

Thanks! I have a ton more pictures I took previously for akeley's project so I can post more too. I think from even these two pictures that it is clear that the color artifacting is not as present in the IIgs version on the RGB monitor. For example the buildings on the right look quite different. Also, the blue is very different which is interesting.

Re: Apple IIGS MiSTer Core Progress

Thanks! Yes, that definitely works. I forgot to mention I have a Mac LCIII with an Apple IIe card in it. The Mac LCIII effectively uses a VGA monitor, and I can tell you that the above picture looks way better than the Mac does. Your picture has that grain to it that disappears on the Mac. Also, I can see the color fringing in the M in March. I thi...

Re: Apple IIGS MiSTer Core Progress

You can actually turn that color fringing on the text off and on in the Apple IIe core in the core menu. It's a special MiSTer core feature that a normal Apple IIe can't do. It is normal to have the weird colors on the text when in graphics modes, even on my Apple IIc with composite monitor. It will be interesting to see how it looks on screen comp...

throttle 1, syncrefresh 0 still works for me for Starwars/Spy Hunter. Also, mister_interlaced_fb 0 helps eliminating the interlace artifacts when disabling syncrefresh. I figured out the problem, and now California Speed, Spy Hunter and Star Wars work. In the core menu, I needed to change Volatile Framebuffer to Off. Thanks again for your help!

Re: Apple IIGS MiSTer Core Progress

What I'm saying is that the IIgs is not "the Apple II" in that sense. The classic bitstream only exists internally between two of the custom chips, one of which digitally converts it to RGB. So while the composite output necessarily has artifacts, I don't know that there's anything special about them compared to any other RGB system with...

Re: Apple IIGS MiSTer Core Progress

An emulated SmartPort HDD is faster than floppy in the sense that seeking is practically instantaneous, but as far as I know the raw data transfer over SmartPort is limited to roughly the same speed as a SmartPort 3.5" drive (which in turn is roughly twice the transfer rate of a Disk II). This seems to fit with a YouTube video I saw of the Fl...

Re: Groovy_MiSTer Core

Spy Hunter is another issue. It is running way too fast. I am not complaining, just informing. Maybe there should be a "catchall" option that allows us to use the MiSTer with a specific video mode and doesn't try to do the GroovyMame syncing. So for example, I could set up a 640x480i@60Hz modeline, set the catchall option, and it would br...

Re: Groovy_MiSTer Core

Also, Star Wars doesn't work anymore for me with my NTSC TV (I get a black screen). Previously I was able to put these into my ini file and use my PC's audio:
monitor ntsc
throttle 1
syncrefresh 0

If I change syncrefresh to 1, it works but it is too fast. Did something change with the new version so this no longer works with syncrefresh 0?

Re: Groovy_MiSTer Core

Can anyone get a stable picture in California Speed in Mame? I tried two different TV's and different custom resolutions, but the picture keeps blipping out with red blotches and occasionally a completely black screen. It is almost as if there is too much information being sent over the network for it to handle or something. It looks fine on the PC...

Re: tty2rpi Add-On (shows core based pictures and videos on a HDMI or DSI display)

However, now that GroovyMAME is here, I also want to get it working with Mame. Essentially what I need to do is scp a file named CORENAME (if I recall correctly) from my Windows PC to my Raspberry Pi, and the Pi takes care of the rest. Do you have any tips on how to get the running game name into a file that I can then scp to my pi? Thanks! I'm st...

Hi RealLarry: I ended up making my own version of this same project (see page 1 where I started talking about it) because I knew I could do it and wanted to have that journey of getting it all working, but I also didn't want to stomp on what you were doing for the community so I just went down my own path and kept it to myself. It works great with ...

Re: Groovy_MiSTer Core

Just got a chance to try this. To answer my question, there is currently no analog controller support. I know that on the Linux side, the MiSTer can see the analog triggers, but the MiSTer main menu doesn't ask about them. I think on the core side, this might be possible to include. I tried it with Outrun in Mame (the MiSTer Outrun core doesn't cur...
