Re: Commodore 128 for the MiSTer?
I can answer my own question. I managed to replace the C128 & C64 kernels with the DolphinDos versions of it. I I also replaced the 1541 rom with dolphindos. Works great. I attached the files. Choose both files (system rom & drive rom) in the hardware settings and make sure you enable the parallel port. Also use 1541 as your drive . You wi...

Re: Transfering Commodore 128 Core
There is one think i don't really like and i'm not sure what to do: Now we have C64 and C128 cores where later one is basically absorbed the whole C64. While C64 is iconic computer, C128 is niche one. So giving up C64 core into favour of C128 is wrong by all means. It would be better to have/continue C64 core with extra C128 functionality. VICE ke...

Re: Commodore 128 for the MiSTer?
I'm having an odd issue. I see people talking about the D71 / G71 format disks, but when I try to mount a disk (using F12 for the system options) I see "Mount #8 *.D64,G64,T64, D81" - there isn't a D71 / G71 there, so when I go to the folder I dropped all my *.D71 images, none show up because they aren't in the filter. Is there a way I c...

Re: C64 core maturity vs alternatives
The Ultimate 64 is definitely a better choice, if you're primarily looking for Commodore 64 compatibility. The U64 has the best 1541 disk drive emulation on FPGA, and you can also hook up a real IEC drive if needed. It also has slots for real SID chips, 9-pin joystick ports, a real cartridge slot (in addition to cartridge emulation), networking (in...

Re: Anyone working on the 1750 (-ish) REU?
The 1541 Ultimate, Ultimate 64, and Turbo Chameleon have 1750 implementations. I am not sure if the FPGA code in the Ultimate is open source (at least some of the code is on GitHub.) If someone was looking to port Gideon's 1750 code to MiSTer, this might be a place to start: https://github.com/GideonZ/1541ultimate There's a file named REU in the fp...

Re: How to flip a disk
Sounds like a bad image, try another version of the game. Most likely a copy protection i induced malfunction the crackers failed to bypass. This sounds likely. Maniac Mansion didn't work for me when I tried to run it from SD2IEC a couple of years ago... but it DID work when I copied the image to a real 1541. So it may be imperfect 1541 emulation ...

Re: C64 Original Keyboard on MiSTer
Does anybody know if Cherry MX keycaps can be found for C64 keyboards? There are stickers, but those end up looking super ghetto (I tried). You can have MaxKeyboard or WASD keyboard print custom keycaps. You'll need to get a copy of the keycap design from https://github.com/tomxp411/MechBoard64-keycaps and tweak them for your preferred layout. (I ...

Re: C64 Original Keyboard on MiSTer
The keyboard is a USB keyboard, but you still need to attach a USB connector. The actual connection is a tiny plastic connector that goes straight to the TheC64 motherboard.
I really wish they had used standard USB headers.

Do you have an SRAM module installed? 32 or 128MB?
have you built the ROM file with the KERNAL+BASIC+DRIVE ROM?

Re: Accuracy of C64 PAL AR?
The thing about PAL is that it has more scan lines, but the Commodore still only displayed on 200 of them (unless you trick the VIC into displaying into the border space.) So on a TV properly tuned for video content, the computer display will look shorter. The dot clock (one tick per pixel drawn on the screen) is also slower, but PAL also displays ...

Re: Commodore 128 for the MiSTer?
Probably not because it would be quite complicated thing. 2 different CPU's, 2 totally different display outputs, three working modes... Although I would love to see one, I had c128 as my first computer when I was kid. It's not THAT different. The CPUs don't run at the same time, and the Z80 is dead stock. The MSX core and ZX core both have good Z...

Re: converting d64 games to prg for faster loading
DirMaster on the PC does the thing you're asking for... it can create D64 images (among others) and add or extract PRG files from those images.
