Re: Audio Amplifier, advice please

BTW, I did try one of these https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B01N905VOY/ A USB DAC/Amp, but nothing came out on the MiSTer. To be honest, I did not expect it to work, but gave it a go anyway. It was actually purchased for another project, where it SHOULD work i.e. G4 Cube Macintosh, which has no standard audio out, and relied on a USB amp back i...

Re: Audio Amplifier, advice please

For reference I have an Analog I/O board and this is how I send the audio out. Analog I/O (https://misteraddons.com/products/io-board-v6-1-with-heatsink) --> Mini-TOSLink to TOSLink cable (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00T8HWUVS/) --> DAC (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07ZPYS818/) --> nice powered speakers (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01N33WUJ9/) If I we...

Re: Audio Amplifier, advice please

I have this one: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B087PG2LVY/ It can be powered by a wide range of voltages, gives about 10W with 12V. It has a 3.5mm jack and also Bluetooth. If a device connects to it via Bluetooth it automatically switches to that input so you can use it both for MISTer and as a Bluetooth speaker. Looks like a cool device. Not ...

Audio Amplifier, advice please

Hey, I have some external, non-aplified speakers (Apple G4 speakers from back in day), and I wish to use these with my MiSTer. I have tried these, and pretty much no audio could be heard. Well, maybe a tiny dribble :/ I'm not an audiophile, but reading reviews of various portable amps, it seems there are a few options to get the autdio into the amp...

Re: Individually Bootable VHDs for Each Game

I did find eXoDOS via a tutorial video, THAT is certainly the collection to start with, 7000 games, and close to a 500GB download that just completed
Now I need to whittle it down to just the games that "mattered", at least for me anyway :)

Not sure, the same website on this page
https://www.system16.com/hardware.php?id=869
Shows that the system is the SNK NEOGEO MVS HARDWARE
All the other games on the NAMCO PACLAND HARDWARE page, appear to be pretty obscure, and I guess do not currently have cores?

Re: Hiding Cores in Which I Am Not Interessted In?

You can then keep the original folders for updates and manually upgrade your favorites when desired. Isn't that the point of this thread though. To have an improved system, that would mean manually wresstling with the update system would be a thing of the past. If you can define a small set of filters, and then not worry about updating, that would...

Re: Hiding Cores in Which I Am Not Interessted In?

This is something that needs addressing. When starting with the MiSTer, I tried copying in a setup from another SD card, and then deleting all of the cores I did not want. Then I did an update and POOF, everything was back. Lets imagine you want to make an Arcade machine from a MiSTer and you only really want a hand-picked selection of cores, rathe...

Re: Individually Bootable VHDs for Each Game

Im wondering, can anyone recommend some sites, where these old DOS games can be downloaded. Ideally, these would be as raw folders and not wrapped in some kind of emulator. Though if the emulator were in a sibling folder that would not be too much of an issue. I'd like to start making compilation VHDs, but I want to get on with getting the games in...

Re: Individually Bootable VHDs for Each Game

Im a PC man since about 1993, when my first job involved setting them up for customer demos, I worked for ICL, which later got swalled into Fujitsu. Are we revisiting the 1992 DOS machine to do work? Are we revisiting it to do 3D rendering on 3D Studio. For me, no. I lived that, and Im happy to use their modern equivalents that are a LOT more capab...

Re: Individually Bootable VHDs for Each Game

There are indeed several thousand DOS games, but, like most systems, many of these would not be much cop. I think there is a place across ALL of the MiSTer cores for completionist sets of games, and also for curated. Personally, as a 50 year old guy, Im not sure if I have time in my life to play several thousand games, or at least hundreds of games...

Re: Any plans for a Mr Do! core?

BTW, just found this text, whilst reading up about Mr Do's Castle, give you an idea of how big a game it was back in the day

"In Japan, Game Machine listed Mr. Do's Castle on their October 1, 1983 issue as being the second most-successful new table arcade unit of the year."

So there you go, these games WERE hits in their time.

Re: Any plans for a Mr Do! core?

The NG version is hugely different - they tried to take advantage of the greater color palette and sound capability of the platform. It's nice, but the first time you see it, you're going to question whether it's even the same game. :) Yeah... I consider PORTS to be a different game. Retro is kind of about experiencing things in as faithful a form...

Re: Any plans for a Mr Do! core?

There's also a port of this game on the Neo Geo Good to know, I guess that would be pretty faithful to the original. Still, Mr Do! and Mr Do's Castle certainly are important games in the early arcade canon. I'd love to see their arcade originals ported in a core, or, if they actually used shared hardware, get some .mra files put together. I'd also...

Absolutely, I used to play it at my local arcade. The right hand thumb button had cracked and part had fallen off, and when you fired with it, you got a mild electric shock through it. Still played it though! Epic 80s arcade joy!

Any plans for a Mr Do! core?

Dr Do! is one of the early Arcades classics, though is sometimes over-looked for games that went on to have a larger lineage (Yes, Im looking at you Donkey Kong). Mr Do! is a deceptively simple game, taking ideas from Dig-Dig (tunnels with roaming monsters) and just making it work SOOOOO much better. It DID spawn a few more games, most notable of w...
