Re: On the Next Core

Thanks, yeah well I did own an N-Go and while it was nice - I really like the styling of the real Next. Sold my N-Go and it paid for my MiSTer and then some. So I enjoy the Next core on that. But I think I still like the idea of real hardware for the Next itself. Tried the FB group...and actually got someone who was willing to sell to me. But when...

Re: IPF Support

I am not aware of non working games, because of "non cracked" disc images. Do you have any examples for this? I don't have a list of non working games because of bad cracks but you can find many posts about it on various forums. The problem is people boot these games and see that it loads and think it is fine. But what often happens is t...

Re: IPF Support

Are there really games out there that exist only in IPF or STX format? I believe that is the case but the better case is that accurate backups vs bad cracked ones should offer better feedback on improving things which gives more confidence in the process of bug fixing. There are a lot of bad dumps out there even non cracked ones. Fortunately there...

The GitHub page for MiSTery suggests a lot of cycle accuracy. First and foremost any format besides .ST would need a cylce exact simulation. MiSTery is not cycle exact and can't support IPF or STX.

Re: On the Next Core

As an aside... I'm looking to buy a real Spectrum Next if anyone has one for sale. Best place to look for one would be the fb group, there are regulary people selling their Nexts for reasonable prices. An alternative would be an n-go, identical to the original KS1 next (with some improvements, e.g. no HDMI backpower and a power switch), but the ca...

I do fully agree with aberu. But the facef_ck post seems to be unaware of these details ZX Next SRAM release for MiSTer: https://github.com/RW-FPGA-devel-Team/ZXNext_Mister I would recommend to the guy from caralibro facef_ck to make a dual SRAM + SDRAM module and to re-read what he has written because criticism is totally unnecessary. Re: On the Next Core

Just spend some time on some ZX Next groups especially FB and you will see what I mean. If you don't own the official Kickstarter version it's not good enough . Never had any problems. I use a n-go on regular basis and everybody treats it as the same as the kickstarter Next. If it comes to the MiSTer, it is just that it isn't the same when you use...

Re: Minimig AGA Issue

You need a Kickstart rom (BIOS). This really makes me cringe - only x86 PCs have (had) BIOS. Nonsense. The concept of a BIOS predates the x86 PCs. It was created in 1976 by Gary Kildall for CP/M. At this point x86 processors didn't even exist (the 8086 were released in 1978 and the 8088 the CPU in the first IBM PCs was released even a year later i...

Re: Just Starting Out With MiSTer Some Basic Questions?

Welcome to the MiSTer world. No need for a secondary SD card at the moment (some cores can utilise the secondary SD card, but most cores don't need it). What you definitely need is the sdram module. Can you check the description if your MiSTer is equipped with an sdram module? The genesis core is one of the few cores that can use the DDR3-RAM of th...

Re: MiSTer Doesn't Power Up

Last month I almost broke my mister. I connected a 12 V psu instead of the 5V psu. I had both in the same place and didn't notice I took the wrong one. When I plugged the power cord, the mister started and stopped after a split second. I removed the power and connected it again and same behaviour. Only then I noticed that I had used the wrong psu....

Re: Tiger-Heli Issues

First of all I'm very pleased Tiger-Heli has arrived for the MiSTer FPGA, based on the Slap Fight core. However, I'm experiencing the following problem: · There's no orientation option (?) so it's stuck in the wrong orientation on the screen, i.e. not vertical on my HDMI screen, which renders it pretty unplayable at the moment. The buttons "F...

Every core on MiSTer comes with a detailed instruction on how to use. Many users aren't aware of this.

I unzipped the vhd and it still doesn't work.

Where did you unzip the vhd? Is it named boot.vhd? It works for me.

From the readme of the core Place rbf into root of SD card. Unpack and place boot.vhd (from releases folder) into /Games/ZXNext folder. Alternatively you can rename it to ZXNext.vhd and place into root of SD card. https://github.com/MiSTer-devel/ZXNext_MISTer Every core on MiSTer comes with a detailed instruction on how to use. Same for me, I just tested it as I hadn't updated yet. Alcon worked before the update (as well as Slapfight) and after the update just Slapfight works (but the graphic corruption at the top of the screen is gone). When launching Alcon I get a black screen and sound. It is no sync issue as I can pull up the core menu just fine. Apart from the title ...

The facebook post is from Allen Albright, one of the developers of the original ZX Spectrum Next core. I think he knows what he is talking about. He explains the SD speed issue in detail in an answer to this post. If you are in doubt of his points, just try it out. I don't plan to, as I am sure he is right. Re: Nightly Public Builds for the PlayStation Core

The issue is not transfer speed, but latency. USB has latency and the HDD has latency and the transfer to the core also has latency, but every sector in double speed only has 6ms of time. If you have this issue, make sure to use bin/cue and not chd, otherwise you also get the decompression in the path. I can't really do anything about it otherwise...
