Re: New MiSTer Composite adapter - mAVster_MD2

I did put a Tweet out but it's just occurred to me I didn't email everyone, there were numerous issues with the fabricator (one of them being a national holiday) so I've only just taken delivery of the PCBs.

I'm currently building them and expect to start shipping Friday.

Re: Composite Adapter for MiSTer

If it's a known problem that can't be fixed, then: 1. Why does he say it will be fixed in the next version and tell me to buy that one next when it comes out? As I said above, it can be fixed, but requires a special build of MiSTer as Sorg refuses to allow it to the main build. Again, it's not a fault of the design! 3. Why does the problem not occ...

Re: Composite Adapter for MiSTer

As far as I know there is no adapter that will produce perfect composite with MiSTer. You can't fault antonio for trying to support multiple FPGA boards, propose a solution to MiSTer that works, and getting turned down. Different people will have different preferences. Maybe once more adapters get made there will be an accepted common solution in ...

Re: MiSTer As An Arcade System

This really isn't about semantics or how many times the word "replication" was used. The context is pretty clear, from the headline itself to certain quotes, such as "Open-source FPGA cores are permanent preservation of hardware" or "FPGA recreations can be used to emulate or even produce physical replacements". That'...

Re: Left side of core image get cut off

I can confirm that at least the genesis, snes, nes and megacd cores are shifted much further to the left than my real hardware cutting off quite a lot and giving a large border on the right.

Output is the same on at least 5 TVs I've tested this on and I'm using the IO board VGA out.

Out of interest, how many cores use the I/O SD slot and for what?

Re: Composite Adapter for MiSTer

The issue is so minor that 90% of people would be ok with it as it is. People are used to seeing it in composite video so I don't think most would see any different. It's a well known phenomenon called "dot crawl". For a technical explanation it's where chroma and luma overlap on the edge of their waveform and the TV can't translate it so...

Great, sounds like a nice solution.

How is the integration with the framework? Hopefully it's not too intrusive so may be submitted as a pull request?

Re: Composite Adapter for MiSTer

To solve this I have created a circuit that reads the VSYNC signal and if found a clock there overrides the crystal clock (NTSC or PAL) present on the adapter and uses the generated by the FPGA. But this is not magic. This requires changes on all cores to generate this clock on VSYNC. This will solve the problem converting moving artifacts to stat...

Pre-orders have been extended until stock is out.

I've ordered enough components to run it out so there's about 9 units left.

Re: Composite Adapter for MiSTer

So are those issues only specific to composite and not S-video? Yes. The issue is related to the synchronization of luma and chroma separation. The crawl or "shimmer" is the result of the edge of either signal overlapping. Lots and lots of devices have the same issue to the point where TVs had filters integrated to try and reduce the phe...

Re: New MiSTer Composite adapter - mAVster_MD2

To varying degrees yes. Sometimes it's noticeable, others not at all. Composite video by it's nature will do this to a certain degree anyway.

Re: New MiSTer Composite adapter - mAVster_MD2

Audio comes from the MiSTer I/O 3.5mm jack. It then goes to the L/R audio pins of the MD2 connector and is also combined into mono for RF audio. Composite video is generated on the board and the RF adapter uses this to generate the RF signal and combines with the mono audio. From a usage point of view you plug vga and audio from MiSTer to mAVster-M...

Re: Composite Adapter for MiSTer

Yes, there is a big difference between normal composite video and composite video with artifacts coming from modern hardware flaws. Again, I'd like to see this. Didn't you say you hadn't actually bought one? So you don't even know what it looks like?? Maybe keep your accusations of "serious flaws" to yourself until you know what the prob...

Re: Composite Adapter for MiSTer

Yes. This guy is seller of MiSTer stuff and it seems he does to attack competitors. As I explain on that email, the problem is due to the core and it's present on all composite adapters on the market not only my one. I won't say me adapter it's the best, but I just receive this email from a client. But the main point is that there is a flaw in the...

New MiSTer Composite adapter - mAVster_MD2

I've finally completed my composite video adapter for MiSTer :) I hope the name isn't too awful  We can now use Megadrive/Genesis 2 RF, Composite and RGB cables. I also added S-Video ;) Below are examples of RF, I'll need to add composite, s-video and rgb examples. Also I'll need to work out how to take decent pictures of a CRT as these aren't...

Re: Composite Adapter for MiSTer

I would like to see an example of this if someone can show me?

I have a feeling the issue has been somewhat over-hyped, I have not noticed the problem on my own adapter, though admittedly it's using a different encoder IC.

The core IS capable of 15khz. I don't recall having to do anything special in order to achieve this, it just worked.

Make sure composite sync is enabled in the mister.ini and any VGA scalers are off.

You can, I don't think it's related to your issue though.

What monitor are you using? Are the LEDs on the IO or DE10 pulsing (not flashing) when you boot it?
