Re: Power Options for Portable MiSTer?

You can buy very cheap USB PD charging boards that will negotiate the power output. Something like THIS . This was the first one I found - don't treat the link as a recommendation. If you are not that money starved, you can surely find something less sketchy on Mouser or Digikey. As for the power bank itself, I have this exact one. I have been usin...

Re: Inline Power Switch for 5V/4A ?

I am using this monstrosity from Marquardt on the 5V side. It works well and it has a very satisfying click.
My Mister is not exactly low power: DE-10 Nano, analog IO board, RAM module, powered USB hub, Wifi adapter, Bluetooth adapter, old laptop harddrive, arcade stick, mouse, keyboard. That should work as a solid torture test :-D

Re: Sega Saturn Core in Development

It doesn't matter if he returns to working on the core or not. Let's continue to support him through Patreon. I can't even imagine what hardships he will have to endure in the near future. But we can at least make sure that lack of financial security is not one of them. Money is not everything, but lack of money can make any situation even worse.

Re: Suggestion for a reliable USB hub please

I am using TP-Link UH720 https://www.tp-link.com/en/home-network ... ter/uh720/
It can deliver enough power (keyboard dongle, mouse dongle, wifi, bluetooth, mechanical harddrive, arcade stick) and it did not give me any problems with stability. It has 7 ports + 2 charging only.

Re: 480i in ao486?

Not sure what would be compatible with Mister, or if it even would support different refresh rates. No matter what utility you use, the refresh rate was limited by the graphics card and its RAMDAC. I did not try UniVBE on Mister, but here is some useful info for anyone, who is going to try it: As far as I know, AO486 is simulating a Tseng ET4000 g...

Re: 480i in ao486?

The other thing is that 70hz is more the typical standard for old DOS and stuff, and that is how flynn's exoDOS packs come configured and what not. Variable means that the original software determines the refresh rate. Win95 will probably default to 60hz and its possible to set up DOS to do the same I think. This is not something you can set up in...

Re: X68000 Beta - Updates and Releases

build with last commits Thanks. Looks like it works great. Only problem is, that it's analog video output is weird. My monitor (Eizo Flexscan L997, analog DVI input) can't handle it and displays a grainy shimmering mess. It looks like results of using a VGA cable with bad/no shielding. It's usable, but it is a horrible eyestrain. The older x68000_...

Re: Share the most terrible retro gaming memory you have

My first and only computer from 1991 to 1995 (we were poor and computer prices in Czech Republic were insane after the fall of communism) was a ZX Spectrum+ with Opus Discovery 1 and a single joystick. In the summer of 1992, we were taking turns playing Manic Miner with my younger brother. His turn was over but he did not want to give me the joysti...

Re: Power DE10 and usb hub with one wire?

USB doesn't deliver 12V to regular devices. It tops out at 5V. Higher voltages are for fast charging of batteries. To power more devices you're going to need more current (amps) rather than voltage. Hubs capable of delivering more power (high current) tend to have 12V input, because with 5V, their input current would reach stupid values. No sane m...

Re: Power DE10 and usb hub with one wire?

I have tried something like that (5V DC (female jack on the case) into power switch and then one cable into the DE10 and one into the hub) and I was not satisfied. Powered hubs that work witch 5V input (available in my area) are not capable of delivering enough power for my setup (harddrive, wifi, bluetooth, keyboard/mouse dongle, arcade stick). Sw...

Re: Cannot boot core with this PSU ?

Do you have a switch between the PSU and MiSTer? Crappy switch can ruin your day, because it's internal wiring can have high resistance when you push high current through it. I had the same problem. I am using a single PSU, cable and switch for MiSTer and a powered USB hub full of nonsense (2 external harddrives (not SSDs), wifi, bluetooth, arcade ...

Re: chassis mounted power input

I am using this one: https://eu.mouser.com/ProductDetail/schurter/48402200/?qs=wwP%252bWDYHj0aB6Upb1c4Fug==&countrycode=CZ&currencycode=CZK It is rated for 0,5A, but there is no reason for that. Solder terminals are big chunks of metal directly connected to connector terminals. No thin wires or other possible points of failure. I am using i...

Re: Show Us Your MiSTers

Because essential parts of MiSTer devoured all my spare money, I have decided to try to make a case from junk found around my basement. It should not be that hard, right? Wrong! I will never be a carpenter  At least it keeps my cats from chewing cables and munching on unprotected PCBs. IMG_20210109_2016159.jpg IMG_20210109_2019122.jpg IMG_202...

Re: How often/regularly do you use the MiSTer?

I turn it on at least every other day. I have originally bought/built it as a Turbografx / SNES machine. But since that, I fell into a bottomless abyss of old computers. I am constantly messing with ZX Spectrum (my first computer ever) and Amiga and I am having a great time. It has brought so much joy into my life, that it finally made me create a ...
