Re: MiSTer Freesync and LG CX TVs - Not Possible?
Just found out about this thread, good to see that I'm not the only one who has run into trouble with VRR support on TV (this time on a Samsung QD-OLED)! I posted some observations there: https://misterfpga.org/viewtopic.php?t=6667 Wonder if the artefact I see is linked to that problem you encountered, this would actually make sense: I get constant...

Re: VRR on Samsung S95B OLED
Few more precisions/findings: I'm on the latest (as of 6/25/2023) TV firmware, v. 1503, and also on latest update_all versions for MiSTer. I tried various HDMI cables to exclude any potential issue with connection, and up to a full 2.1 48 Gbps cable, that I also use with my PC. Speaking of PC, VRR works perfectly fine on this TV from the computer, ...

VRR on Samsung S95B OLED
Hi, I recently got a new S95B TV (2022 model) that supports VRR, up to 120Hz. I tried to setup my MiSTer to take advantage of it, following the great documentation at "https://mister-devel.github.io/MkDocs_MiSTer/basics/video". In the .ini config file, I tried setting "vsync_adjust" to either 1 or 2, coupled with "vrr_mode&...

Thanks Fandango for the explanation, that might be it. This being said, I have a RTC in my build, but maybe is it only used in the cores themselves?

Re: MiSTer Downloader Tool
Getting a similar "cacert.pem" message, but with an error 60 instead, when trying to run udpate_all this evening (latest update I did was yesterday or the day before, and it ran perfectly fine). It apparently tries to remove the file (3 attempts), but SFTPing into MiSTer, I can tell it's still there, and has a modification time from 7/7/2...

Re: Rendering Ranger R2 Black Screen
Btw, as a temp workaround, a patch for the rom itself has been suggested, that you can download from the Github ticket mentioned above in this thread:
It did the trick for me, I was able to go past the initial logo screen and play through the first level without any noticeable issue.

There are ways to use the Star button, but not when you are in D-Input mode.

Re: Where would the second ram module go on the digital IO board if/when required
I know the top icon on the Home Screen that looks like a street light shows how much ram is installed when running one stick. Not sure if it behaves the same way with two sticks. No, it doesn't, unfortunately (that would be handy) -- unless it does and my module is not active... And I'm not sure if any options are supposed to look different...

Re: Where would the second ram module go on the digital IO board if/when required
I just installed a second SDRam module, just to be future proof and avoid any potential shortage down the line (and yes I know it is not all that useful atm, and may never be ;) ). Is there a way to test that the second module is taken into account, and working? What options should be activated on the PSX core to take advantage of it (as of the 23/...

Castlevania: Symphony of the Night garbled map display
Hi, Has anyone encountered the same issue, with messed up map display? The rooms seem in place, but their pixels are scrambled up. And if so, would anyone know if this is an issue that would creep up in the save data (I started to play with early unstable builds of the PSX core), or if is just a current display bug of the unstable core (to know if ...

Re: Vertical bands in Super Mario Kart with 5x and MG shadow mask
Thanks for the details, Asteld. I deactivated all options that would sound suspicious (those "consumer friendly" names like "magic black" and such nonsense are really annoying, wish they were more upfront about what those do...), but no dice. After the latest update, the old masks are gone, and I noticed that the new line of MG ...

Re: Vertical bands in Super Mario Kart with 5x and MG shadow mask
I tried changing the all potentially relevant picture settings of my 1080p Samsung TV (which was in game mode already), to no avail. I don't have anything that would correspond to this "Just Scan" option. But given in what conditions this artefact appears, I'd be surprised if it is caused by the TV. Upon further investigation, I noticed t...

Vertical bands in Super Mario Kart with 5x and MG shadow mask
Hi, I've found settings that I think look fantastic with the new video processing system, in 1080p. In addition to setting the cores (tested SNES, MD, TG16, NES, NeoGeo) to 5x scaling, here are the options I use: mkart2.jpg It looks glorious with all games I have tried so far... but one: with the SNES core and Mario Kart in particular, I have notic...

Re: OSD menu by default when cores start
Ah well, I spoke too soon of course, and it is now gone again, after another update... Still quite puzzled by this (and no, I don't have boot.rom files in the resp. games directories for those cores), as it does not even seem to be tied to versions of the cores themselves... I guess it'll change from update to update. XD

Re: OSD does not come up automatically
It's obv. not a huge issue at all, but in general I like to understand when things change like that for no apparent reason; I wonder what it could have been, and if it is something that can be configured somewhere, by users. Or if somehow there is something wrong with my install, maybe updates that didn't fully go through. Or if it is just like tha...

Re: OSD menu by default when cores start
Thanks for the tips! I was pretty sure that I didn't have any boot.rom file in those folders, but double-checked just in case, and also temporarily renamed my regular games folders and created empty ones instead, but it didn't do the trick, I'm still getting a blank screen when booting up those cores. Any other idea what it could be?

OSD menu by default when cores start
Hi, I noticed that, after recent updates, some cores (TGFX16, Genesis, NeoGeo, maybe others) do not display the OSD menu when first loaded anymore, instead defaulting to a black, empty screen. You can always bring up the menu of course, by using your usual key bindings, but I definitely like it better when the menu is displayed by default, providin...

Re: OSD does not come up automatically
Bumping this thread, as I seem to have encountered a similar situation with the Genesis and TGFX16 cores, after a recent update. I'm curious if there is a setting somewhere that would enable/disable automatic display of the OSD menu when a core is started (I looked into the .ini file doc, but couldn't find anything seemingly related to that). It's ...

Re: 8BitDo M30 2.4g USB - need older firmware 3.07
Aah yes, that's actually the mode I had set my M30 in (maybe accidentally), which is why I had this mapping conflict with the PCE pads.
So if you have both, mapping one model to Switch and the other to X-Input seems like the optimal setup for MiSTer.

Re: 8BitDo M30 2.4g USB - need older firmware 3.07
While we are at it, the same goes for the PCE 2.4g pads: Hold those for 5s or so: RUN+UP: X-Input MODE RUN+LEFT: Switch MODE RUN+DOWN: D-Input MODE (PCE Mini) In PCE Mini mode, the home button just acts as pressing start+select (this is the shortcut used on the PC Engine Mini to access the home menu), so I prefer using the other modes, where it is ...

Re: 8BitDo M30 2.4g USB - need older firmware 3.07
Hey, About the select and mode buttons returning the same input, it is not (or at least, shouldn't) be a firmware issue. I encountered the exact same issue, contacted them and... it is a hidden feature (not documented anywhere) of the pad. Their products tend to have a few of these, and why they don't mention it at all, even in the FAQ, is beyond m...

Re: Needing to replug 8bitdo m30 2.4 receiver for MiSTer to detect it each start
Hi, I've encountered the exact same issue with my M30 2.4Ghz, on the latest firmware. And it seems to be consistent (if fails 100% of the time so far). I've tried plugging it to different ports, turning fast polling on and off, or remapping the controller from the main menu, but no luck so far. Not sure if that could be a power issue, but the green...
