Maybe not the place to ask this but what is the point of the fast rom hacks if they dont work on original hardware? Surely you can just crank up the emulator/fpgas simulated processor clock speeds to result in an even better but similar position. I must be missing something as why would the ROM hack developers go to all this amazing effort.

Re: New HDR Settings
Big video_gain_offset explanation Thank you for the explanation. It's still pretty hard to work with without menu for dialing heh.... Afternoon all, first to introduce myself: I added HDR support to RetroArch and am the author of the Sony Megatron shader that aims to harness the benefits of HDR support. This is really cool. I haven't used Retroarc...

Ah fantastic thanks for the reply! The first option doesn't work as I'm using a CRT but I'm hoping the second one is the one for me. Thanks again.

Re: Cave Core Guwange Public Release
I am not near my MISTer but I guess you have to back off the Service menu and Save Settings So this obviously sounds correct but the problem is to back out of the service menu it instructs you to press 'SW Bord Test' and another similar thing - presumably a switch on the motherboard. However Ive no idea how that translate into the mister - it does...

Dodonpachi service menu save?
So yesterday I tried playing Dodonpachi and found the screen had been flipped vertically. I'm not sure how this happened (assuming a new update?) but regardless I now can't seem to save the 'invert screen' option in the service menu. It says how to exit but I don't know what the 'Bord SW ON' or 'Test SW ON' is to do that and presumably save the opt...

Re: update_all and arcade offset
So turns out I have done everything right in terms of .sh file (I just couldn't quite remember). So either I need to do something else for that to work or get the piece of text the settings menu puts into the downloader.ini. I notice in the repository there are 'roms', 'release' and 'readme' folders but no instructions (as far as I can see) where s...

Good shout - why on earth does GitHub make that so easy and the downloading the actual version so hard. I did clone the GitHub repository but I might have tried quickly downloading just the script. Anyway I'll check! Thanks

update_all and arcade offset
Hi all, so I can't get the update_all.sh terminal working on my setup. IfI turn on fb_terminal it says I need to turn on vga_scaler and if I turn that on it makes my CRT (sony PVM 2730QM) image completely garbled. So I'm left with skipping the settings menu which normally is fine, however I now want to enable 'arcade offset' setting by Atrac17 but ...

Re: Custom Joysticks All Have Same ID
Yeah this isn't a problem though - just as it isn't a problem that the current way it works doesn't really work for all use cases as we've discussed. Sure in the above example your joysticks buttons would be wrong BUT you've explicitly set this mode of operation to true so you live with the fact you can't swap over usb ports for your joysticks in r...

Re: Custom Joysticks All Have Same ID
I'm not not sure about that as you still want it automatic - it'd be a pain to have to select an input profile every time you boot and then comes the problem of how would you select it in the first place. I havent checked RetroArch yet to see how it deals with this problem.

Re: Custom Joysticks All Have Same ID
you're confusing one essential part, the identifying part is correct, same hid / pid is the same device, no way to differentiate any further. that it sees two devices that can operate apart from eachother without one device influencing the other is because these devices are each connected to their own usb port and the system / os can enumerate thr...

Re: Custom Joysticks All Have Same ID
Anybody know a work around for this or if there is a fix in the pipeline? I cannot think of a way how it could work otherwise. Devices with the same usb ids actually are all the same for the linux kernel. It has no further way to differentiate them, and will not neccessarily enumerate them in the same order on boot. So it makes sense that MiSTer s...

Re: Custom Joysticks All Have Same ID
Ok re-reading the first paragraph of my initial post is not as clear as I had intended. So apologies for that. I fully understand though that as it currently is the button mappings are mapped to joystick ID and as my joysticks all have the same ID they effectively all have one mapping which then leads to the problems I'm seeing.

Re: Custom Joysticks All Have Same ID
I don't know if you both read my initial post - it states quite clearly (or so I thought) what youve both said. I fully understand that the button mappings are set/stored under the joystick ID (which is made of the PID/HID). However Mister IS detecting and uniquely identifying both of the sticks as when I move the stick associated with player one i...

Re: Custom Joysticks All Have Same ID
Yes so thats not quite true - MiSTer or at least most arcade cores recognise that there's two distinct joysticks as in when you move the first joystick it will display the button mappings for the first player and when you move the second joystick it will display the button mappings for the second player. This even follows through into the actual ga...

Custom Joysticks All Have Same ID
I've built several custom joysticks with various buttons and sticks but Ive run into a problem with Mister in that it detects them all as the same joystick ie their joystick ID are all the same. This causes two big problems, firstly because they are all slightly wired differently they need their buttons reconfigured all the time as I swap joysticks...

When I use the dip switch flip screen on analog RGB Output the screen is mirrored instead of flipped 180 degress. Re: SNAC DB9 Issue with IO Board 6.1
Apologies it wasn't the Blisster LLAPI ports I was using it was the SNAC with HDMI port and a Blisster DB9 adapter that got it working. Once working I can swap back to the usb snac and it'll still work until I switch off the mister/switch core.

Re: SNAC DB9 Issue with IO Board 6.1
An update: I got a Blisster board and tried the Megadrive pad on the LLAPI HDMI adapters and it works fine. Even more wierdly once the core detects the joypad I can then swap over to SNAC and use all my SNAC hardware.
So I'm not sure it's a SNAC hardware issue - I think there's something up with the core and the initial handshake.

Boot from USB?
Is it technically possible to boot from USB? I'd like to get rid of the issue of scripts like the update_all script not really being USB aware (in particular the mame_getter portion of the script). Of course it may just be easier to make it aware. It would just be a cleaner setup if I could just have everything on my usb SSD.

Re: Genesis/Mega Drive (CD) SNAC : phantom button presses
I have a similar issue that I've posted here on this thread. viewtopic.php?p=35256#p35256
The only thing I've heard that might fix it is resoldering the snac port on the IO board. I don't have a soldering iron (or probably the skills) to try it out.

Hi I'm having exactly the same issue. I've got the IO board v6.1 and usb SNAC adapter purchased from misterfpga.co.uk as well with AFAIK genuine 3 and 6 button joypads. See images. My start and c buttons do not work on either pad. Any idea what could be wrong? I'm not sure there was an answer above. IMG_20211010_213222.jpg IMG_20211010_213154.jpg I...

https://electronics.stackexchange.com/questions/323356/loud-pop-noise-while-plugging-to-a-headphones-jack/323360 Sounds like my problem might be a 'DC pop' when swapping cores. Interesting that you don't have it with the digital IO - I have one of those sitting idly by - I'll try it.

Sounds like my problem might be a 'DC pop' when swapping cores.

Re: Low Volume
@chanunnaki thats the sound I'm talking about when I say 'pop' - I think 'thud' is a better description of it though. I've posted in General Discussions about it as it sounds really bad for the speakers - the low volume issue on the Genesis core amplifies the thud problem.

Re: Low Volume
@pacoarvade I'm not sure a pre-amplifier helps in this scenario. Its not a problem that I cant turn it up loud enough - I can using my Scarlet 2i2 audio interface (which if I'm not mistaken is acting in part as a pre-amplifier) but when I do turn it up I then run the risk of forgetting its up loud and then damaging my speakers when I change cores d...

Re: Low Volume
Ok that's good to know that it isn't specific to my setup. I'll do that for the other cores as you say however the big problem comes when moving between cores and the loud audio pops and cracks that happen when using the IO board's 3.5mm jack with mini TOSLINK (that I've also just opened a support request in general discussions for). If you have th...

Re: Audio pops between cores
Apologies all for not explaining my audio setup. I have an analogue IO board v6.1 and am using the 3.5mm Audio Jack with Mini-TOSLINK and have connected it to a scarlet 2i2 audio interface that then goes out to Yamaha hs8 studio monitors. You can see the big audio pops coming into the scarlet as it's got lights on the inputs that go bright red if y...
