Re: Variable Refresh Rate support added thanks to zakk4223
Tried this out today now that it's in main. LG CX magic formula that worked for me: - HDMI input set to UHD Color - AMD Freesync enabled When I had Freesync off, the MiSTer wasn't picking up the VESA VRR support when set to Auto. Turning on Freesync and leaving the MiSTer on Auto and it works. This may be completely localized to the firmware of my ...

Re: Change core clock from 59.18 hz to 60 hz
For those curious about what 60hz does for HD displays, we had a good discussion on it a while ago. 15khz shadow flickers on the Neo Geo are usually the most notable visible artifact with it's slightly off timing on fixed refresh panels. I have a crystal modded MVS to run at 60hz just for this issue. https://misterfpga.org/viewtopic.php?t=2562 Does...

Re: MiSTer Freesync and LG CX TVs - Not Possible?
I've got two CRT televisions, 2 models of SNES, the MiSTer, and now I'm inclined to check later. 🙂 I think I'm going to stick to the arcade cabs for now and keep an eye if anyone else finds anything about the CX as it clearly can't match exact frame rates, which seems to be an issue when a sub £200 monitor can do it! Perhaps the answer is to use a...

LG 32GK650F - was in my first post. No idea about 50hz. I never use it.Insert Disk Two wrote: ↑Wed May 05, 2021 8:03 pm What's the exact model of the LG monitor please? Does it handle 50hz frequency?

Re: MiSTer Freesync and LG CX TVs - Not Possible?
Alright. Got a solid 30 minutes due to a last-minute meeting cancel. Back to the LG LCD Freesync monitor: Added in the scroll tests from folks for SamSho 2 and 4 intros. Smooth as silk. Shadows are correct as well now. Why? I had the overdrive cranked from playing FPS games so what I was seeing was overshoot. This isn't a high-end monitor. Turned i...

Re: MiSTer Freesync and LG CX TVs - Not Possible?
Just to add to this: Hooked up my MiSTer to my LG 32GK650F, which is a 48-144 Freesync monitor (up to 100hz via HDMI). Exact same things that both myself and Escape-To-88 has observed on our LG CX displays. Super Mario World scroll hitch, Samurai Shodown 15khz flicker, etc . Leading me to believe it's either an LG thing, or that it's starting to sh...

Re: MiSTer Freesync and LG CX TVs - Not Possible?
Now we have to wait until we find someone with a C1 to learn if we both get to regret our CX purchases.

Re: MiSTer Freesync and LG CX TVs - Not Possible?
Please keep the thread updated. I plan to buy a CX so I would know what I am getting into :) @Escape-To-88 maybe there is something which is forcing the panel to resample to exactly 60hz? Will do, and that's my early thinking too. We're both of the mind that the issues are FAR less noticeable than they were on 60hz fixed panels, but still ever so ...

Re: MiSTer Freesync and LG CX TVs - Not Possible?
Escape-To-88 and I are on it, and may have blown this whole "Freesync is perfect with MiSTer" case of perception wide open!
...ok, I'm exaggerating, but it prompted me to take a much more critical eye to a few things. Comparing notes now.

Re: MiSTer Freesync and LG CX TVs - Not Possible?
Go for it! Happy to help troubleshoot. I'm starting to wonder if the CX has issues going ABOVE 60hz without Freesync support. The systems I'm familiar with at that level all operate below.

Re: MiSTer Freesync and LG CX TVs - Not Possible?
Sorry you're having this issue. My 65" CX reports the correct refresh rates with vsync=2. It's not Freesync obviously, because MiSTer doesn't support that, but the CX grabs the signal and reports the correct rate. Checking Neo Geo 15khz shadows against my CRT was the first thing I did, and all is well. It's my go-to test as I'm happy that I ca...

Ended up figuring this out. Posting it here in the hopes it saves the next person some time.
- Source a Darksoft ROM set (google is your friend)
- Use this tool: https://gitlab.com/loic.petit/darksoft-to-neosd/
- Now protected games will work perfectly, and you still get the advantage of the .neo format
- Play Neo Geo as nature intended

Metal Slug X Protection Issue
Hello! My apologies if this has been covered. I went through every thread and didn't find any info, nor anything searching. I'm using the .neo files from my NeoSD where every game functioned fine on my two MV1C boards. When loading Metal Slug X, I get the red screen of text warning about running on official Neo Geo hardware. Good 'ol MSX and it's p...
