Re: 2 Button Controller Options
8bitdo 2.4g PCE pad I think works great with MiSTer, not just SMS and NES, but a good fit for a lot of Megadrive and Arcade games too. Built in autofire buttons always a plus

If you're in the market for some shmup action, I can recommend:
- Harmful Park
- Zanac X Zanac
- Gaiaseed: Project Seed Trap

Re: MiSTer Multisystem Handheld Prototype 'Handy'
If you were to produce and sell this, I would definitely be interested in one.
Not sure about the name though. If I tell the Mrs that I'm paying some guy I met on a forum to give me a handy, she'd probably leave me.

I ran update_all (twice!) but RoboCop, Dragon Ninja, Midnight Resistance and Heavy Barrel all still show "this core is in beta phase" / "beta.bin not found"
What am I doing wrong?

Sorry all for highjacking this thread with my very individual issue!
JCA, I followed what you said, and now the JT cores are all coming in so thanks very much. And yes, I'm definitely a Linux noob!

Re: SEGA 16 Public Release
I put my microSD back into my pc and it had set FB terminal back to 0, so I changed it back to 1, saved it, put it back in the MiSTer and the display is still cut off in exactly the same way when I do "update_all"

No Jotego cores. I've pressed 'up' on both keyboard and arcade stick and it's not done anything, so I've not been able to change the settings

Re: SEGA 16 Public Release
JCA, I'm using hdmi. VGA scaler was already set to 0. FB terminal was set to 0, and I changed it to 1. Unfortunately, it's still the same as before.
On the side during update all, it says:
"Update_all.sh"
Is that the right one?

Re: SEGA 16 Public Release
Sorry, me again! I tried to press up on update_all but nothing happened. I get an error: " SORRY! can't display the SETTINGS sc Maybe you have fb_terminal=0 NOTE it could still work if [Menu] Vga_scaler=1 " I've looked around the forum for a fix but I've not been able to find anything. I've obviously got something wrong in my setup somewh...

Re: SEGA 16 Public Release
I'm totally confused. I ran update_all, and all system16 games showed the "this core is in beta phase" error, so I put my card into a pc, manually deleted all system16 files, returned card to my MiSTer, ran update_all again. Now I only have Altered Beast set 2, which still shows beta phase error, and no other system16 games have been (re)...

Thanks for the input. In the end I used a friend's PC and did the actions in these posts:

And now it all works fine again.

Re: Cannot boot after upgrade
I've never had any problems with my MiSTer or with Update_all, but tonight I ran update_all, and when it was finished it restarted and now I just get a blank screen. I don't have a desktop pc so I'm pretty limited in what I can do from home, so I guess I'll have to bring my SD card to a friends house and load an older version somehow? Or will I nee...

Re: One year with the MiSTer
I'm three months in and feel I've barely scratched the surface of what the machine can do.
I've been exploring the libraries of systems I've never had access to before, like the X68000, MegaCD, PC Engine CD and MSX. So many great games I'd never even heard of.

Re: X68000 Beta - Updates and Releases
A few games I tried were not playable as missing a layer of sprites (Nemesis 94, Phalanx) and some others have various other visual issues (Xadlak, Die Bahnwelt), but I would say 95% of everything I tried ran perfectly.

Re: X68000 Beta - Updates and Releases
I found this newest version to be very easy.
Just pick the relevant .hdf, and then select "reset and apply HDD" and then you're in. Configuring controls etc exactly the same as the other cores

This new version (X68000_20211108.rbf) seems better than the one I was using. I just fired up Galseed 2 and the image and sound are noticeably better.
Nemesis 94 still doesn't work though!

Re: Which of the Japanese PC cores is best to start with?
Maybe the X68000?
I'm pretty sure that's the most powerful Japanese PC that's running on the MiSTer. Nice high res graphics which I imagine is good for making out Japanese characters clearly.
I think the core is a beta one, but seems to work very well to me.
