Thanks for clarifying!MikeS1 wrote: ↑Sun Apr 03, 2022 5:37 am No this is just an alternative to hacking together multiple cables. You have a clean svideo out. It also adds the sync on green circuit for direct video as well as a Luma trap filter.
I use this with the YC cores so I don't have to worry about cables. Also so I can use direct video

Re: Mikes Excellent Beta Composite / S-Video Support (No converting adapter needed!)
In my experience the 'dot crawl' of an original genesis via composite and the 'dot crawl' of the genesis core w/ Antonio's adapter are drastically different things. I'm looking forward to trying Mike's solution when my cables arrive. I've really enjoyed Antonio's adapter, but the genesis core has been unplayable for me. Just make sure you turn on ...

Re: S-Video and Composite Over Component Output! (Custom Cores)
I am currently using Antonio's adapter for composite output because it's the best my Samsung GX TV supports until I RGB mod it. I really like Antonio's adapter, but the genesis core makes me nauseous which was a big disappointment. I'd like to try this output method, but I am not sure which kind of adapter I need. Ive seen VGA>component adapters (...

Re: Mikes Excellent Beta Composite / S-Video Support (No converting adapter needed!)
The dot crawl of the adapters that have been previously distributed was, to my eyes when I tested, significantly different than original hardware. Also the frequency of the rainbow artifacting should be more accurate as well due to his changes. As you know, I remember the original problem rather well. But that's also one reason why I'd prefer it w...

Mikes Excellent Beta Composite / S-Video Support (No converting adapter needed!)
This is an amazing feature I've been waiting for on the MiSTer. Native Composite (And S-Video) output! https://github.com/MikeS11/Test_Pattern_YC I tested this with the Genesis core vs my actual Genesis. With composite blend the output looks indistinguishable to me. I'm so excited to use this with the PSX core as well with proper dithering, and I h...

Anyone figure out how to get Super Plus working here? Only seems to support plus and there’s no way to enable the 4 missing characters without codes.

Re: Possible image rotation to the analog output?
It’s actually pretty easy, and in my experience there is no noticeable latency. https://misterfpga.org/viewtopic.php?f=33&t=3527 The one thing preventing it is there seems to be a bug with MiSTer that cuts off a small portion of the right side. Not sure if its been fixed. Someone should file a github report so it will get the proper attention ...

Re: Discussion of Thoughts From the Terasic Team
I don't really see the point. Terasic/Altera decided to bring the board into beginners hands to grow their audience. Thus they massively subsidized the FPGA on that board. As a result it's simply not worth for anyone else to build a compatible end user device and they actually pretty much killed the original MIST board that way. This didn't happen...

Re: Composite Adapter for MiSTer
For Genesis you don't just need composite, you need bad composite. Each system had its own, idosyncratic composite flaws, which makes replicating them in a general purpose device difficult to impossible. That can in turn make those composite tricks less effective depending on the targeted system and technique used. Sure, maybe to replicate the pro...

Re: Composite Adapter for MiSTer
I have Antonio’s adapter and I love it. I run s-video and most cores look amazing. Some cores like Arkanoid and Rampage have a green tint but those are the exceptions. Highly recommend his adapter if you have s-video inputs. Almost as good as running component. Very close. I had a composite-only CRT TV but found one locally that had s-video. If yo...

Re: Composite Adapter for MiSTer
Bump of the dead here, but I am having similar issues and wondering if anyone has found a solution. It's hard to figure out if this is due to Antonio's adapter though, because while I do notice this on NES & SNES, it's something I have to look for to see. However, the Genesis core looks truly awful. Intense rainbow banding, dot crawl and colors...

Re: MSX Without Keyboard?
MSX was a home computer with a keyboard. So not using a keyboard would be a very strange use of a MSX Not really. On machines like C64 or Atari, most games didn't have a keyboard-control option at all. On MSX, I play a lot of early games atm, and most have the joystick option, some are keyboard only, some utilise both. I suppose later games would ...

Re: Are PVMs still unique?
A decent PVM in America costs in the $1000 rage. It depends what you want to do. 1) Since none of our TVs (IN USA) have support for PAL/50hz so if you're looking to play that type of content in an analog format it's your best bet, however you could use a VGA monitor for this as well from what I understand 2) If we ever see support for Midway / Seib...

I'm sure this is subjective, but do most people play MSX with just a keyboard, or a controller and a keyboard? Not sure how much other games utilize if it's working going in with more of a keyboard expectation as explore the catalog.

MSX Without Keyboard?
I'm new to MSX, and am quickly noticing that it seems like a lot of games require a keyboard to play (Metal Gear for example). Is this typical of the system? Should most games be played with a keyboard in MSX vs a controller? I didn't know if there was a easy solution here to playing MSX games completely with a controller, or if that is a process t...

Re: Rotating a vertical arcade core on a CRT TV?
I'm not sure what to make of that. It almost looks like you'd need to resize the picture in the TV's menu, but maybe not with all that empty space. It is also interesting when you changed the horizontal resolution from 320 to 640 that it stretched out the vertical picture, though. I wouldn't have expected that. I'm definitely not an expert in this...

Re: Rotating an Vertical Arcade core on a CRT?
The rotation option in the arcade cores is implemented for the digital HDMI output only. It doesn't function for analog signal output since the analog out is meant to be the original output of the arcade board, console, etc. The adapter from that thread is really an HDMI to Composite converter. The MiSTer isn't doing anything different to the HDMI...

The video isn't great when it comes to showing off what makes the MiSTer so strong, but he's got a big dedicated community & he's only really shown this device in a positive light. Re: Why are CPS1, CPS1.5, JOTEGO & CPS2 missing from the Wiki?
Licensing, control, and philosophical disagreements between Jotego and the main devs. As a wiki, I can’t see there being an issue simply calling out that these cores exist, no? I mean, you don’t need a license to say “This exists”. Disagreements sounds like a bad reason not present someone with information they’ll need. Right now this wiki is the ...

Why are CPS1, CPS1.5, JOTEGO & CPS2 missing from the Wiki?
I was wondering how much of a source of truth the MiSTer wiki is, but I am noticing a lot of missing entries and pages: https://github.com/MiSTer-devel/Main_MiSTer/wiki/Arcade-Cores-List I'm noticing that CPS1, CPS1.5, JOTEGO & CPS2 are not motioned at all on the Wiki. Is the Wiki here not maintained as progress is made, and should not be consi...
