Re: "MiSTer Community Plays" Events

Yeah, it only works if you're signed in as the account I created for this right now. I'm glad I sourced another set of eyes on that list because you correctly pointed out that there were no Capcom cores, and then in researching that I realized that I hadn't included any of Jotego's public cores. They were not listed on the wiki, and his own docume...

That works for me! Re: "MiSTer Community Plays" Events

Okay, after dealing with some adult life issues (illness, leaking roof), I've finally managed to make a spreadsheet of the available cores with a clickable button that will select one of those cores at random. I have not included the 2-player Game Boy / Advance cores as that seems redundant. Otherwise all classic computers, game consoles, arcade co...

Re: "MiSTer Community Plays" Events

So I think we should move forward. There seems to be enough interest to get going at least. Here's my proposal (keeping in mind everything is malleable): We select either a core or a specific criteria/theme at random Once selected, we then nominate games with that nomination only needing to be seconded by another user to add it to the list From tha...

Re: "MiSTer Community Plays" Events

I think it would be kind of confusing to have two different games of the month, one existing on twitter, discord, and the world at large and the other here. Maybe we can just post what was voted upon on twitter, and there can be some crosstalk here. I know you don't like twitter, I don't like it either, but it's very hard to communicate if you won...

Re: "MiSTer Community Plays" Events

Loads of different themes could be thrown in. Best schmup on the SNES vote one week. Best 8 bit racing the next. So the suggestions thread could be the theme. The admin sets up the weekly vote. Then a thread is created for that winner.?! I love this. That's an angle I hadn't thought of, which is exactly why I wanted an open discussion about this. ...

Re: "MiSTer Community Plays" Events

Definitely up for this. Console, computer and arcade. Probably need a thread for suggestions, then a new topic when that suggestion is selected. How would you feel about a MiSTer core getting chosen at random and then we go from there? There would perhaps be less friction if the core were chosen for us with a random number generator, and then once...

Re: "MiSTer Community Plays" Events

System of the month or even maybe genre of the month sounds good to me. Some computer cores need some fiddling too, so discussing how to get them to run can be useful. Recently I've been revisiting the Amiga library, there are some interesting adventure games there, but you have to ignore the lucasarts and sierra games to not drown them out fame-w...

Re: "MiSTer Community Plays" Events

Yeah, the more I've thought about it, a randomizer does seem like the best way to do this. There's also an element of surprise to each new round that way. A shared Google Sheets document would be an easy way to proceed. We could get the randomizer built into the list itself that way through an embedded function (surprisingly easy to do). Press a bu...

Re: "MiSTer Community Plays" Events

Sure, this is not a problem, I am happy to setup a dedicated sub forum for this type of activity. If those users who wish to start this brainstorm an outline and flesh this out further. Yeah, that sounds like a good idea. It then keeps the discussion out of sub forums, where it's more for cores. PistolsAtDawn , some good ideas there. The rotation ...

Re: "MiSTer Community Plays" Events

I wouldn't know where to start :) Perhaps have systems without save-state support, so no chance at, ahem...using them ;) What would be a preference for system ? 8-bit, or 16-bit ? Arcade ? There are thousands of hidden gems out there, most of us have probably never heard of, so would love to get some unknown games. I suppose, to get the ball rolli...

Re: MiSTer BGM - Background Music for the MiSTer Menu

I've also added the ability to add core-specific boot sounds. So let's say you launch the SNES core, you can make it play a boot sound while that's launching (and then stop playing music like normal). I appreciate this project, and I especially like this addition. I'm thinking that first up is something like a sample of Solid Snake dialogue for th...

I would personally prefer to not use it for anything to do with the community side of MiSTer as I've seen o...

"MiSTer Community Plays" Events

(i.e. "MiSTer Community Plays <Bonk's Adventure [TurboDuo]>", etc.) Many years ago I was part of the OpenPandora handheld Linux PC / game system community, and one of the things we did was have informal events where we'd vote on games to play "together" (no netplay here) then share high scores and thoughts about the game over a ...

Re: Cores and Features on Analogue Consoles not (yet) on MiSTer & Vice-Vera

The MiSTer is largely open source, meaning all the hard work that has been put into it has been preserved for future devices and future people.

Analogue's work dies with the company and the lifespan of their silicon.

To me, this is the most important thing about this project.

Which is what I usually do - take my slippers off & touch some metal - before handling MiSTer and my old computers. And even so, I managed to fry something in my beloved Amiga 500 in a freak short circuit accident a few weeks ago (sob). Sorry for your loss. Hopefully it's repairable? To be fair if you compare a PlayStation’s performance to what was available in the PC world in 1994 when it was new it’s pretty damn impressive. Remember this was pre 3d accelerator cards for PCs. But yes I own a PlayStation (since back in the day - also had a pc at the same time) and it feels pretty accurate to me. Solid point. Another thing to c...
