Re: MiSTerNet

I love this online Tetris thing, it definitely seems doable to add support for the mister Gameboy Tetris game, you could just connect the raspberry pi, but it would be better to remove the need for it by adding a client in the mister Linux side of things

It can compile to a bunch of targets, one of them verilog. Here's a nice demo: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xQMCDbAZJKs
Interesting stuff, thanks!

Re: Donkey Kong: Walking Sound Hack?

it's this file:
https://github.com/MiSTer-devel/Arcade- ... eyKong.rbf

I forgot to set the name correctly with the date in my pull request, that'll be fixed with a new pull request. My apologies for that.

It is going to be 05/02

Re: Donkey Kong: Walking Sound Hack?

A new rbf was released today that that should sound exactly the same, but a bit louder. It is a slightly optimized version that solves timing warnings that the previous build caused in the timing analysis of the compiler. It may be worth to update to it, it won't fix MRA related problems, but it should be a bit more reliable.

Re: Donkey Kong: Walking Sound Hack?

Core still doesn't work for me using the newest update. Same symptoms as before. Upon launch the game just sits there glitching and playing the mario death sound over and over. No one else is seeing this? I'm sorry to hear you're still having problems. There are some timing warnings in this build that I'm still going to look at, hope that will res...

Re: Donkey Kong: Walking Sound Hack?

Thanks! Here is a direct link to the rbf file in case anyone can't find it: https://github.com/MiSTer-devel/Arcade-DonkeyKong_MiSTer/raw/c17631d5e5636a4270b44038d1add687fd7443ea/releases/Arcade-DonkeyKong_20220501.rbf I tried it and it sounds much better. Excellent work! I picked a random Arcade low pass filter. Which filter do you recommend? I th...

Re: Donkey Kong: Walking Sound Hack?

Created a pull request with improvements based on the feeback from lagomorph an Turbochop. https://github.com/MiSTer-devel/Arcade-DonkeyKong_MiSTer/pull/46 You can grab the rbf file from there, or wait for it to be merged. The walk sound should have the correct hight/tone range now, and is less squeeky Also threw in a couple of other small improvem...

Re: Classic Synth Cores?

People are thinking about FPGA emulation of analog/mixed system. Random google found this. These guys are saying FPGA is 2-3 orders of magnitude (100x 1000x faster) than CPU based, but that it's hard to do. The base components would be pretty challenging to create and have them be accurate, but if we had a library of analog parts and a way to hook...

Re: Donkey Kong: Walking Sound Hack?

I commented on the original PR that got merged. I'm in the camp that was slightly bothered by the samples in that they can't reproduce the random nature of how the walking sound is actually produced. I'd think though that anyone sensitive enough to want an improvement in the existing walking sound would not be convinced that this is an improvement...

Re: Donkey Kong: Walking Sound Hack?

Just tried the current version. It's great to see the progress. I am looking forward to the new improved version. I was wondering if there are any samples still being used and if so, will those will be modeled as well? Thanks! Yes, the rest of the analog sounds are still samples, for example the jump sound. I'm planning to continue on other cores ...

Re: Donkey Kong: Walking Sound Hack?

BTW, can someone more skilled than I (that’s anyone who can actually work with this code) check on the digital music code in Mister. For some reason, the rhythm/notes of the post board song is off. Getting the analog sounds right would be a miracle, but it won’t be that great overall if the digital music is still off. interesting, this is worth so...

Re: Donkey Kong: Walking Sound Hack?

I will have a look, although I did measure and validate the frequency ranges. I'm wondering if it could be the filters being stronger on the original, on the YouTube video or on the MAME version. Another thing that I could imagine is going on is that there might be a slight difference in the speed at which the sounds drop/rise in pitch? If anyone i...

Re: Donkey Kong: Walking Sound Hack?

Works quite well for me. There's a very minor bug, that you could argue is more of a style thing than a bug. In this change: - .I_SW(I_DKJR ? 3'b000 : W_6H_Q[2:0]) + .I_SW(I_DKJR ? 3'b000 : W_6H_Q[2:1]) the 3'b000 should have become a 2'b00. It won't make a difference; I'm not sure if Quartus will be issuing a warning for it but if it does, it's a...

Re: Donkey Kong: Walking Sound Hack?

The walk sound is integrated into the DK core. The release pullrequest is pending, but you can already download the build here: https://github.com/jopdorp/Arcade-DonkeyKong_MiSTer/blob/master/releases/Arcade-DonkeyKong_20220429.rbf It is great to see so much enthusiasm around the analog sounds of these arcades! Re: Donkey Kong: Walking Sound Hack?

I'm still integrating the walk sound with the DK core right now, then I think I'll do another another iteration on the circuit simulation, see if I can implement a general circuit solver. to solve everything except capacitors, inductors and opamps, which are implemented as high/low pass filters. Then I'll finish the DK core first. After finishing t...

Re: Donkey Kong: Walking Sound Hack?

Well, I've started on MiSTer Discrete. https://github.com/jopdorp/MiSTer-Discrete It's not finished, but the Donkey Kong walk sound is implemented and alive! You can hear the output from my dk_walk core here: https://github.com/jopdorp/MiSTer-Discrete/blob/89df4e467ffb9d115eaad54cb152c286a7e90b7c/dk_walk.csv.wav?raw=true Still have to integrate it ...

Re: Classic Synth Cores?

This is ineresting, I've been working on some mixed digital/analog modeling in arcade cores. It's a lot of work, but possible. I'd consider implementing one classic synth. I'm thinking it would be great if we find some generic way to implement analog audio circuits, maybe similar to SPICE circuit simulation, or maybe some parts can be accelerated b...

Re: Donkey Kong: Walking Sound Hack?

I'd like to have a look at the DK analog sound implementation. It'll probably be an analog modeled sound, because a SPICE-like simulation is not realistic to implement as of now. I've tried the LiveSPICE project that I had to port to Linux, but it's not fast enough on a raspberry pi 3b to simulate an entire analog sound PCB, just a couple of elemen...
