Isn't N-Gage also possible? And game.com?

(And I don't know what "things aren't red enough" means. I assume that that's a play on words based on the Virtual Boy being red but you are not literally saying that Virtual Boy is impossible because of color.)

Re: Some Games not Running

If a byte-swapped BIOS is required, and not using it breaks some games, how is it possible that it works with anything at all? Wouldn't trying to execute code that's been incorrectly byte swapped execute garbage, and therefore break all games, not just some games? How could you even get a CD menu if you try to use an incorrectly byte swapped BIOS?

Re: Open Source Software/Hardware, GPL, Legal Issues...

If it's not a legal issue, then we should think about whether the not-legal issue is something that deserves respect. I think that while we should usually respect not-legal requests, we don't need to do so all the time; some kinds of requests amount to just being a jerk, and we don't need to respect those. (Imagine software which couldn't be used b...

Re: Open Source Software/Hardware, GPL, Legal Issues...

People got all upset about anyone raising copyright issues in that thread, but it was OP who felt the need to make this statement that the core was under a restrictive license. And it turns out such a copyright may not even be legally binding on electronics schematics, it's probably just public domain at this point. In that case it wouldn't matter...

Re: Any List of BIOS That Work With MSX1 Core?

Based on the Discord chat, the correct bios is one with a sha1 checksum of 0x829c00c3114f25b3dae5157c0a238b52a3ac37db. In Tosec 2012 this is "Goldstar FC-200 MSX Disk Basic (198x)(Goldstart).rom. On msx2.org it is there at least four separate times, under the names 8020-00bios.rom, fc200bios.com, vg8020_basic-bios1.rom, and spc800bios.rom. Che...

It turns out that ctmouse 1.9.1 and 2.0 alpha 4 work. It's the 2.1 beta 4 specifically which doesn't work.

Re: PCXT Core 10Mhz CPU Speed Possible?

I'd like to see a list of any games that won't fit either the PCXT or the ao486 cores. It will probably be a very small list and we might find workarounds to make the games work in existing cores. I tried to unzip a zip file in ao486. The unzip I could find was compiled with DJGPP and hung with a known problem . It's not a game, but it is somethin...

Re: Could somebody post a beginners guide to the ZX Next Core

If anyone's wondering, I did solve my problem. The emulator image does work. Apparently "firmware" is not actually firmware. And it doesn't automatically install the core, so you can use it. The version I tried does not claim to have a mismatched core; I don't know if other versions would. Copying files in Linux is harder to find out how ...

I'm an American who's never had a real Spectrum and am confused by this: Since the .vhd cannot be written, does that mean there is no way to, for instance, save BASIC programs, or save games that have save game features, unless I use a secondary SD? Re: SCUMMVM

You don't need any additions for OPL3. ScummVM already has OPL3 emulation. This is something I was just trying because I got a new toy... Keep in mind, the OPL3 currently used in ao486 is in fact an emulator itself running on a NextZ80 CPU, however, It would offload some of the processing from the ARM CPU... What about the midi? Could a midi synth...

Wait a minute, ao486 is supposed to be a non-SDRAM core? I would have thought that as something that pushes the system to its limit it would be permitted to use SDRAM.

Re: TI-994a How-To

I found the problem. In this game, you cannot thrust and move at the same time. If you use a joypad, sooner or later you're going to move your finger in a direction that is not exactly up or down, and this will cause your ship to stop moving. Most games will not stop moving if you do this. So I'd either need a joystick that doesn't have diagonals, ...

I've had situations where I held the joystick in a direction (up or down) and the ship didn't move. Letting go for a second and then pressing the same direction again caused the ship to start moving. I tried Zelda on the NES with the same joystick and this *never* happened (even though Zelda is also a game which stops moving when you stop holding d...

After some struggles which I won't get into here, I got this to work and played Parsec. First of all, the joystick seems to stick a lot. Is this something in the game triggered by using too much fuel or moving it too much or something? The joystick works fine in other systems, it only seems to stick here. Also, what should I use for voice? Gogling ...
