Output to a LCD TV and a CRT TV/monitor through direct video without having to disconnect cables

I was meant to post this some months ago but got caught up in other things, and now with dual RAM not being needed anymore (at least for now) and the PWM cores outputting 24 bit color, Direct Video doesn't seem to be much relevant anymore. But I'm posting this anyway because this still could help some people. The objective of this post is to presen...

Re: I made 3d printable cases for video adapters from UltimateMister and Retrocastle

I just received the RetroCastle adapter today and to my surprise it has a housing. Not the same as your design though. Looking at their Aliexpress product page, I see that is now an option that costs more. So I was lucky, really nice gesture. Heads-up for people getting one, the VGA port on it is male, so you need a female to male VGA cable to con...

Cool! Look clean. What FDM printer was used for the ones in the pictures?

I used a Creality K1 and printed with normal PLA

Re: Groovy_MiSTer Core

This is amazing news! I tested it yesterday and it's great to be able to play on my CRT arcade games that don't have a core for them yet, and even games that probably will never get a core because they may be too much for Mister (like 3D arcade games) I have a question, does the DE10-nano have any limitations compared to the video cards people use ...

Re: Discussion on the VGA to Composite/S-Video Adapter from RetroCastle

In my experience, the quality won't be that good because it's a passive Y/C adapter, I have the passive Y/C adapters from Retrocastle and UltimateMister and the image quality from both of them is iffy (it's not the manufacturer's fault, it's just that passive adapters seem to be inferior than active adapters). To get a good image quality from compo...

I made 3d printable cases for video adapters from UltimateMister and Retrocastle

Hi guys! First of all, happy new year for everybody, let's hope 2024 will be a great year for FPGA gaming :D So I made 3d printable cases for the active Y/C adapter from Retrocastle ( https://pt.aliexpress.com/item/1005005267629034.html ), the passive Y/C adapter from UltimateMister ( https://ultimatemister.com/product/mikes1-yc-passive-board/ ) an...

Question about Ultimatemister's passive Y/C adapter

Does anyone know what does the two switches on the passive Y/C adapter sold by Ultimatemister.com do? I'm creating a 3D printable case for it that I plan to make available for free, so I need to know what to write beside each of the case's opening :)

A scart switcher with 2 outputs would be ideal for your case. Aliexpress sell a lot of different models, just search for "switcher SCART 2 out", don't know if they're good though.

Re: Which Is the Better Option for Outputting Component Through Direct Video?

Didn't know about that VGA to YPbPr adapter from Ultimatemister and Antonio Villena, seems a much more straightforward way to connect via component video than using the SCART-YPbPr adapter that I'm using now. Thanks!

Which Is the Better Option for Outputting Component Through Direct Video?

Hi, I have a Mister FPGA for roughly one year now and I always used the VGA port with a VGA-component cable to output to my CRT TV, but recently I decided to use direct video, since I can get a better color depth for the PSX (and maybe N64) core with it. Then I realized that the component output has some compatibility problems when using direct vid...

Always nice to see Mister being featured on a big channel, that's the second time they talk about Mister actually, the first one was about Mister Multisystem

For Genesis and Saturn I use the Retroflag Genesis controller, it's been great so far and only has 1.437 ms of latency, according to this https://rpubs.com/misteraddons/inputlatency

Re: ROM Management

One thing I do is delete redundant games and only keep 1 file for each game (which is called 1G1R - 1 game 1 rom) using Retool and Clrmame pro. I learned how to do it using this tutorial https://old.reddit.com/r/RetroPie/comments/mtzcy6/create_your_own_1g1r_set_for_redump_and_nointro/ . There's full 1G1R packs available on the internet too. I know ...

Re: Connecting both a CRT tv and a led tv through direct video using a scaler

You can't put HDR or VRR into an analog signal, you're absolutely going to lose that stuff doing HDMI->VGA conversion (or pulled directly from the mister's own VGA out.) I was thinking of Retrotink, it seems the 5X has VRR support now and they will add HDR support for the upcoming Retrotink 4k. The second issue is that you are going to lose sync-o...

Connecting both a CRT tv and a led tv through direct video using a scaler

Hi guys, currently I connect my Mister to the component connectors of my CRT tv through the IO board and to my led tv through the HDMI out for the DE-10 nano. What I was thinking of is if it was possible to enable direct video and configure mister to output a YPbPr signal, then connect a HDMI -> VGA adapter on the HDMI Out of the de-10 nano, then c...

Re: Advice for HDMI Users

Has anybody tried using one of these breakout boards ? Assuming the HDMI signal passes through correctly, it would be a lot easier to cut traces on one of these than trying to block/remove pins on an HDMI cable. I was having the same problem with the Mister interfering with the connection between the TV and the soundbar, luckily I found this threa...
