I got the game working by disabling L2 cache from the core's hardware menu.

Was he making this core without a MiSTer in his possession? Did he maybe just need a new one? Really glad he's safe. I can't stand that the war is still going almost two years later. I assume it would had been too risky for Sergey to carry FPGA equipment with him when he fled the Russian occupied zone. Who knows what the Russians would had done to...

The person who is reporting games as having "controller issues" probably hasn't set the controller to CD32 mode in the core's system menu. None of the games I've tried have controller issues as long as the controller is in CD32 mode.
