Re: New distribution system for Jotego cores

Jotego says this option is disabled by default. It can be enabled from the Jotego cores section in update_all. If you run the script via SSH, be sure to run this before update_all.sh command:

Code: Select all

cd /media/fat/Scripts
Otherwise update_all.ini new settings will be saved in the current directory (/root) and will not be applied when the script runs.

Does this apply to public cores too? would my MiSTer system get the jotego cores wrecked if I run the script not being a patreon?

Re: Building a new MiSTer would like to know what's a good monitor and audio device

Topping E30 DAC (no headphones, just pure DAC) works fine with MiSTer. Be sure to get the new version that corrects a problem.

In standby mode (where a dot appears in the screen) keep the tactile button pressed, then after 3 seconds it will appear the actual mode, then keep it pressed until it changes from PRE to DAC.

Re: Low Volume

You can solve that problem using a preamplifier. A decent DAC will give more volume too , but the preamp allow you to adjust it using a physical knob.

Misconfigured Web Server Redirects

Hi, I've noticed that some of the the web server redirects are misconfigured. If you search in google site:144.76.198.112 you'll notice the search engine is indexing lots of threads with the server IP (instead of misterfpga.org), giving a certificate error when clicking. For example https://144.76.198.112/viewtopic.php?p=21122 should redirect to ht...

Re: Advice for HDMI Users

So, if you're using HDMI at all, it's probably just a really good idea to get one of these little booster devices and install it, to electrically isolate things. And if you're putting MiSTer inside of a larger case of some kind, it's probably an even better idea to install one of these inside of the case, so that the HDMI port exposed on the outsi...

This one is cheap (less than 4€) and works perfect for me. "Unbeatable quality for the price" is a strange choice of words in this case. avoid really cheap audio gear, its often barely better than whatever integrated part you are trying to replace. do your homework, look up reputable DACs and other gear, look for how they perform, what they offer. schiit, gesheli, smsl, topping. if you want chea...

Blazing Star stage 2 music slightly out of tune?

I've noticed that in Blazing Star's song 7 (Navigation, Stage 2) in some parts the instruments go slightly out of tune, or at least somewhat different from original hardware and vgmrips.net player. Not sure if I should report this, so I share an audio capture here for others to compare. I can notice this in seconds 15, 19, 25 and 27. It's like the ...

FX-Audio DAC-X6 and Divltpoetry TUBE-6J1 cost around 30€ each on Aliexpress. Unbeatable quality for the price.

There are also 6J1 preamp kits from ~7€, but they require a 12V AC power supply.

Re: Amplifier - DAC suggestions

Cool thing about the preamp is that you can correct the volume difference between cores easily, and due to 2x gain you don't have to turn the volume too high in the TV. It also gives a warmer sound, and allows you to boost bass or treble. About the DAC-X6, I get better sound from the RCA output than from its built-in headphones amplifier. This way ...

Amazing service from Nat. The Digital I/O Board received works perfect, and the Neptune case has surpassed my expectations. It's beautiful, solid and the acrylic oozes quality. Also, he was kind enough to send me four spacers for the USB Hub I already built saving me from another purchase.

Definitely recommended A+++.

I've experienced this issue too, and it doesn't happen in the original game.

In one of the last updates I've also noticed a difference in some sounds of the first boss music, but I'm not 100% sure this didn't happen before or if it's due to my setup.

10μF ceramic capacitors are bigger in size than 0.1μF (at least the ones I have) so you can visually check if they are placed correctly. Since SDRAM schematic lists 1μF maybe your SDRAM has them instead of the recommended ones in the SDRAM assembly guide ? top row: 10uf, 0.1uf, 10uf , 0.1uf bottom row: 10uf, 1uf, 1uf, 10uf, 10uf, 1uf, 1uf, 10uf My ...

Re: issues gettings output on crt tv via ioboard and rgb scart cable

For CRT I think you need composite_sync = 1. This is my configuration for CRT via HDMI to VGA (forget the direct_video setting since you're using VGA output from Analog I/O):

[MiSTer]
direct_video=1
composite_sync=1

By the way I'd remove the SCART switcher off the equation, at least until you get image in your TV.

I've experienced this and it depends on the core and the TV set used. An atari-forum.com user comments he solved this problem using a cheap 6J1 tube preamplifier.

I'd also check global volume and core volume are on max setting.

Re: New Power Supply for the MiSTer Digital Edition

I got the GST60A05 and it works fine. According to the specification the GST60A05 is a bit more efficient than GST25B05, but ripple is up to 120mVpp vs 80mVpp - I suppose that's at full load, so I'm not sure if for our usage the GST60A05 effectively has more ripple. Anyway, it works perfect for me, and I prefer this desktop format.

Re: Low and distorted sound ?

In my experience using jotego's CPS1 core it depends on the TV. With a Sony Trinitron KV-B2513E I have to set volume to more than 5/10 and it gets a bit distorted. With a LG CF-28A56 it sounds fine, but there's a humming sound appreciable when there is no audio. This user talks about using a small preamplifier due to low volume coming from the HDMI...

Re: VGA to SCART cable

I'd definitely add that 470Ω resistor in series at SCART sync pin to attenuate the signal below 1V if the cable doesn't already have it. I did some measurements using Direct video and the sync signal coming from the Rankie adapter. Without attenuation it exceeded 1V so it can damage your SCART equipment. Devices like OSSC are specially sensible to ...

The 470Ω resistor for CSYNC attenuates the signal to ~400mV
