Re: Arcade Controller
Today I received a suitable 2000mAh battery (PS4 Controller Gen 1-3 replacement battery) for my arcade stick and it works great. Pairing via bluetooth to MiSTer with a standard BT dongle was no issue and everything worked instantly. I have not perceived lag yet, which would fit Porkchop's lag test attesting the Brook Wireless Fighting Board an aver...

Re: names.txt - Proper System Names in OSD
Great idea, thanks. What happens if a core is not in the file or a core has another name than in the file. Will it still show up in the OSD and work? In that case you will see the normal rbf-filename of the core missing in the names.txt like when you do not use the names.txt. There is no risk of not seeing a core, because of it and they all will w...

Re: What makes new games different to old?
In short, games are optimized and created for the hardware that they are expected to run on and when we do not know better, we hardly notice. The long answer is: The "old games" were created when input and screen were more or less lag free, thus there were hardly any measures necessary to alleviate the negative effects of lag. Nowadays ga...

Re: Any chance for composite blend like in Genesis?
It’s a little off-topic, but maybe this is something for the „composite guys“: https://twitter.com/retrotink2/status/1244484898016002048 Thank you, but this would better go into "Display Devices" where it would get appropriate attention. It is a composite out board to connect to ta CRT, but this thread here is about composite "simul...

Re: Low Latency Video Mode
It is not meant for a specific type of display, but depends entirely on the device that you have and its capability to adapt to different pixel clocks and refresh rates, which is hit or miss, sadly. Samsung UE49UN8000 TV and when using this Low Latency mode especially with Arcade cores the scrolling is not smooth and judders slight with slight glit...

Re: No Green video on WG Arcade Monitor through Ultimarc Amp
Did you get both of your I/O boards from the same seller? No, from different sellers and they both worked at first, but then one showed this flaw. First I suspected an update to have caused it, but since my second MiSTer that I update just the same works fine, a hardware issue with the I/O is quite plausible. Considering that this seems neither su...

Re: Floppy drive sounds
If done correctly, it is helpful in that it can tell when some games are stuck for one reason or another, without having to stare 3 minutes at a screen hoping for the best to happen. That is true. The drive sounds give a more accurate representation of what the drive is doing than the drive LED that most of the time is just on. I assume that is wh...

Re: No Green video on WG Arcade Monitor through Ultimarc Amp
I had (have) the same issue with green missing in one SOG setting and colors being off on the other setting, but I have two MiSTers. The problem only occurs on one of the two, which leads me to believe that this is a hardware fault with one the the I/O boards. They are I/O boards 5.5 and 5.6XL. VGA Out worked fine on either and the fault occured on...

Re: Any chance for composite blend like in Genesis?
Yeah, look at SFII screens. This is total crap. It's like "catch the flea but miss the elephant." Do we really need to throw so much "crap" around here? I disagree that the article is incorrect and what you call "crap" is a composite video capture of a real Sega Genesis Model 1. This is what the games were developed f...

Re: Any chance for composite blend like in Genesis?
This is how it's designed originally. Actually blurriness of composite output wasn't supposed to be abused by dithering to get specific effect. You call Sonic screen with composite blend (shown above) as normal? For me it looks like crap. It's like whole MiSTer project made in vain if I watch at that pic. Well, like with most tech the developers g...

Re: Any chance for composite blend like in Genesis?
Sure, use similar RGB to composite adaptor and use ancient CRT. So everything is already there. MiSTer emulates the console. Composite output is simply not a part of MiSTer, so you need to add it if you are fan of blurry videos. Basically scaling filter with blurriness already simulates bad quality of composite video. I remember a post where you r...

Re: Any chance for composite blend like in Genesis?
No idea about which improvement you are talking about. If you force enable composite blend when it applied on full screen, the same Sonic looks very bad. I never used it till adaptive blend was added. Even if sonic gets some benefit from blending in very particular screens, it's not worths to enable it if it cannot detect the places where it has t...

Re: Any chance for composite blend like in Genesis?
While talking how good one particular scene when screen is heavily blurred you completely disregard that wast majority of time it simply render the video as complete crap without any benefits. "Crap" is subjective. Nobody disregards that proper composite simulation degrades the image quality. It was this degraded color information that w...

The ones I got look the same as these: https://www.amazon.com/PLUSPOE-Extensio ... B07PDZKLF7 I took voltage measurements with a multimeter and mine do not change the voltage at all.
Just try them and if you have a multimeter, test them.

Re: Any chance for composite blend like in Genesis?
Thanks for the link, I really like composite HV25%, it looks great. These filters hardly do anything except for making the image blurry. They do not result in the composite blending effect. Let's take a look at Sonic 2 on Genesis (right click on the screenshots and open them in a new tab to see them full size, please). Here a screenshot without Fi...

Yes, exactly, this action (bios chime first, then game) [...] [...] I am not even sure that the original machine has a bios. [...] Quite a few versions actually. The early v1.3 even has a hidden game included (snail maze), while the later versions just loaded a game when no cart was inserted. Or would "system ROM" be a more fitting term?...

I would like to load other bios versions, EverDrive cart has the option to load different SMS BIOS versions and I really like the feature. I like to load the regional version from Brazil for nostalgic feelings. There are many bios released in the system life, most have different graphic/animation and sound. Would make my MiSTer more like my origin...

Re: Arcade Controller
I think the case is one of the biggest problems when you build an arcade stick. It for sure is. There are really nice and quality cases out there, but sourcing them is very expensive, especially when shipping overseas and customs come ontop. I saw a few projects where people use IKEA picture frames, breadboxes and their like or in general anything...

Re: Any chance for composite blend like in Genesis?
@Kitrinx What filters were you suggesting earlier to get composite blend?
It would still be great if the composite blend option from the Mega Drive core could become a default feature of the framework to be used in all cores as I found no filter yet that works remotely as well as Kitrinx' "Composite Blend ON" feature.
