Re: Arcade Controller
A cheap arcade stick is a first start and is much more fun than a gamepad. There are people out there how are not willing to spent 100$ or more for it. Just make sure it is mod able and you can switch out the stick and the buttons. For encoder board it doesn't have to cost a fortune if you build it yourself: https://github.com/MickGyver/DaemonBite...

Re: Arcade Controller
A quality joystick, like a Sanwa JLF-TP-8YT or Seimitsu LS-32 alone costs more and we are not even talking prices of a fast USB encoder board, like a Brook, that does not give you horrible input lag.WolfgangBlack wrote: ↑Thu Jun 04, 2020 5:28 pm There are cheap controllers on aliexpress that do work with MiSTer.
Why even bother using a MiSTer with a 25$ "Arcade Stick"?

Try writing it lowercase "games". With NTFS MiSTer seems case sensitive on external USB drives. See here: viewtopic.php?p=1058#p1058

Re: Controller A/B & X/Y mapping swap issue
I'm also using a retobit wireless Saturn how did you get the MiSTer to recognise the home button on the pad? I've had to resort pressing start and select for the OSD as it just seemed to ignore the Home button Hold Start + B to put the gamepad into X-Input mode (blue LED), then you can map it in MiSTer. By the way: Red LED means D-Input mode and i...

Re: Controller A/B & X/Y mapping swap issue
Well, I have the Retrobit Wireless Saturn Pad and there Down + Start is a native command in the controller that flips A/B and X/Y.
You might want to check the manual of your gamepad (http://retro-bit.com/controllers-support)
Why don't you map the home button to OSD?

Just setup the new card with the latest installer and then copy everything over from the old to the new one, overwriting files present. It should give you no issues.

Re: No power to USB Board
The USB board has a tiny fork that touches a solder point right behind the DC-IN of the DE10-Nano. The USB board has power when the red LED at the back end (the side the DC-IN is located) is lit.
Make sure this fork has contact.

While the c65 would be neat, there was zero commercial software made for it and nearly no homebrew software, just a couple simple demos, the c65 mega folks are making their own "re-imagined interpetation" of the machine since the actual machine, filling in the missing gaps, etc.. the real machine was never finalized (and even with real c...

Re: Any chance for composite blend like in Genesis?
The cofi module I wrote is very portable, at least it was when I wrote it, however the value outside of the genesis core is very limited. For HDMI you can simply use the composite video filters by Soltan that do the same, Genesis dither was just SO bad that for some games the video was virtually broken without it. So even rgb/component CRTs needed...

Re: Any chance for composite blend like in Genesis?
I shall test this someday when I plug my MiSTer in hdmi again. I'm very excited to see how it renders now! I'm a big supporter of blurry options: my favourite console, the PC-Engine, may be beautiful in RGB, but the Japanese games made heavy use of the r-f/composite blur for their Japanese font and make it easy on the eye. It currently is only ava...

Re: Any chance for composite blend like in Genesis?
Oh I thought that option was in the Mega Drive core only for CRTs, and that HDMI could rely on the various effects/filters to achieve a similar result. That's not the case? Not at all. You especially need that option on LCDs otherwise games that rely on dithering through composite blend look wrong and can be unplayable. There is no filter that com...

Re: Arcade Controller
Qanba Q4 RAF, it has a Sanwa JLF Joystick and Sanwa OBSF-30 Buttons, which are often regarded the best arcade part you can get. The Seimitsu LS-32 Joystick is a great choice, too, depending on your preferences (as a replacement for the JLF stick that comes with the Qanba). The whole stick works flawless with MiSTer and should be easy to mod if you ...

Re: No HDMI Output. Help Please
Even if they SD is properly inserted the DE10-Nano is quite picky with contacts. It happened to me a few times by now that although the contacts of the micro SD seemed clean, wiping them down with a clean cloth made the MiSTer boot properly again.

I saw a Competition Pro remake with USB, anyone use that? I have two of those. It feels authentic and like an original down to being quite stiff when new. But beware the switches are authentic loud, too. ...

Re: Controller Latency
These are wireless controllers and are subject to interference, both BT and 2.4 Ghz. Depending on your environment, your results may vary. (Incidentally, interference comes not only from network devices, but also microwaves, lighting, phones, etc.) I would think that Porkchop and the people providing results keep that in mind, but some results cou...

Common problem with all these lag tests, not only input ones, which is why I always take them with a pinch of salt. Unless everyone uses uniformly the same hardware and methodology then the possibility of severe discrepancies will always be there, since it's truly a micro zone. For sure and I appreciate the effort people put into lag testing. It i...

Re: Controller Latency
The values on Porkchop's spreadsheet feel kinda off, compared to other tests. The Retrobit Saturn Wireless feels much more snappy than what the measurements show, but that is speaking from my gut feeling. But, if you compare Porkchop's values for the M30 2.4GHz (Switch and Mini) that Jorge_ did (10.8ms average lag) to another test (3.6ms average la...

Re: Any chance for composite blend like in Genesis?
Well the reason it was specifically added to Genesis was for dithering effect. Transparent Waterfall effect in Sonic 1 for example. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x0weL5XDpPs Understandable, but if the composite blend feature recreates this loss in color information, then all systems would benefit from it in regard to an authentic old look. I agr...

Re: Any chance for composite blend like in Genesis?
From what I understand it blends pixels into each other and gives the image a look of old composite video output. It looks beautifully CRT so why would any core not benefit (or benefit less) from it? I guess because of the color palette?SegaSnatcher wrote: ↑Thu May 28, 2020 11:09 pm I can't imagine SMS would benefit from it as much as Genesis.

Re: Neo Geo CD
CD versions have very limited space for graphics. 1MB IIRC. While carts used up to 96MB. So many CD versions had crippled in-game graphics. NeoGeo is about huge ROMs with massive graphics. CD kills it all. Well, if you only look at the graphics that may be true in some instances (Metal Slug 1+2, AoF3, Last Blade 2, Samurai Shodown IV etc.) but the...
