Re: Composite Adapter for MiSTer
Yes, there is a big difference between normal composite video and composite video with artifacts coming from modern hardware flaws. No, I wouldn't buy a PS4 if it had a serious flaw and I knew there is a revised PS4 without it coming out soon. And if people only learned about this flaw from some random email, then it would be a major scandal. Obvio...

Re: Composite Adapter for MiSTer
Yes. This guy is seller of MiSTer stuff and it seems he does to attack competitors. As I explain on that email, the problem is due to the core and it's present on all composite adapters on the market not only my one. I won't say me adapter it's the best, but I just receive this email from a client. But the main point is that there is a flaw in the...

Re: Performance vs real A1200 + 030
Not really, which should be obvious - the original machines and these FPGA systems don't have so much in common. The idea behind the whole "FPGA angle" is to have new hardware to replace old hardware, and to avoid certain issues with software emulation (latency and more). One of the big hype factors behind FPGA promotion is "hardwar...

Re: Performance vs real A1200 + 030
And for what? The number of software titles that require cycle exact 020+AGA is... zero :) For what? The fact we're aiming to replicate the original machines. Isn't that the main idea behing the whole FPGA angle? If you're 100% sure that there really is no software which is affected by that then okay, it's a good point - though I know that on A500...

Personally, I'd rather see this core being first made as close to vanilla A1200 as possible, enabling cycle-accuracy for example.

Re: New Camputers Lynx 48 & 96K Core for MiSTer
VIC20 came out in 1981 I think & C64 in 1982, so not much between them. Apart from price. The difference was rather substantial. When it comes to early and affordable micros I think Atari 400/800 was the best choice. C64 was probably the best of the pre-Amiga lot, but it wasn't flawless - particularly let down by the chunky gfx with weird colo...

Re: VGA converter problems
Nice to see you've joined this camp as well. The search for the perfect CRT box continues, eh MiSTer is best-in-class for those cores that work with CRTs - the output is 1:1 (I measured with a tape vs OG HW lol), plus there's no faffing about with timings, drivers, etc.

Swell, I always wanted to try one of these crazily-named machines Looking forward to a tap-capable version.
Also hoping it supports/will support 15khz video output?

Re: VGA converter problems
I 'm using DV as well but haven't encountered any of the problems you describe. I connect to a CRT TV via VGA - SCART cable. My DAC has the chip which was mentioned in the wiki.
Perhaps it's something with your PVM. How do you connect to that?
Also, are you the crtemudrive-guide buttersoft?

Re: Scale Filters - Possible to add more?
Shaders mostly require a lot of juice, both from GPU and CPU, especially the likes of Royale. There are some simpler ones available on RPi but Rpi is more powerful in these kind of tasks. So I'm not sure if it's even possible here.

Re: VGA to RGB SCART UK?
Yes, this is the same problem as described here: https://misterfpga.org/viewtopic.php?f=33&t=614 I'm using my other Trinitron atm, which is not affected by that, but would like to be able to use MiSTer on my other ones too. Any chance you could draw a simple schematic describing these modifications? Or at least do a simple bullet point write up...

Re: Composite Adapter for MiSTer
48k Spectrum's composite is actually pretty bad - the dot crawl is very heavy. I'd expect MiSTer's output to be a step up, at least that's the case with Raspberry Pi.

Re: VGA Output, Scalers, and CRTs
I have a few VGA monitors, mostly newer 17" ones. The one I've tried with MiSTer is SyncMaster 793df. What mister.ini settings are you using for non-scaled VGA? I'd like to try it myself.. Overall, I have a bit of an OCD when it comes to displays, so will stick with my DOS PC for now. Hopefully one day there will be solution for this core too,...

Re: VGA Output, Scalers, and CRTs
Could you, or somebody else post .ini settings for the unscaled VGA output? I've tried yesterday and was unable to do it. I'm using Direct Video though. Are you sure it's really perect? Re: VGA Output, Scalers, and CRTs
I wouldn't really say they look "amazing" if the scaling is wrong. You can see it even in this very picture. This core is indeed amazing and I get it that people are excited about it, but we should not really settle for incomplete results. If there are possible solutions it's definitely worth researching. It is after all the display, some...

Re: Atari 8-Bit Computers
Fandal & Homesoft are great resources, when it comes to disks. Nevertheless there is still stuff that's available on .cas only. But it's not the main point, because tape functionality is an essential part of the legacy of the 8-bit micros. If we're aiming for the complete package here then it should be available, even if every single title was ...

Look at 1979-83 titles, in Gamebase for example. There's quite a few. Of course most of the popular ones are done, but I like to check obscure stuff too.Chris23235 wrote: ↑Tue Aug 25, 2020 12:49 pm Are there really so many tapes that haven't been converted? From what I've read in these threads:

viewtopic.php?f=13&t=367
...VGA only works through the scaler (or the image does not sync, is unstable or does not display at all). And the scaler produces artifacts.

Re: ao486 core / DE10 potential as a DOS computer
For me, strong 486DX would be just fine, this kind of machine should be easily able to run games from, as OP correctly says, the greatest era of gaming history. According to reports, most of them already work just fine. Unfortunately, speaking as a strictly-CRT user, the VGA display problems are a great turn off. It'd be awesome if somebody attempt...

Could be that some CRTs struggle with this kind of output and behave like that. Similar to the issue I described in this thread in regard to colour troubles on some Trinitron models.

You can just tick "run/does not run" box and put fps and glitch remarks in the notes. This way the "playable" subjectivity trap can be avoided and anybody can make their own mind up if it's worth trying a particular game. That is what I want to avoid. All entries will end up being on the first page pretty much and there will be...
