Ok mate, do you have a link for the boot.rom? I had a gander but it's floating in some unknown regions

Re: Direct Video Output
That's down to your set up. It works fine on both of my consumer TVs. Check your config. Well, whaddyaknow. I thought it's impossible, seeing as Wiki mentions high frequencies. Tried it again, after update, and now it shows some signs of life - I get heavy rolling (as oposed to nothing before). I don't really have any config for ST, and all my oth...

Re: Has anybody tried C16 core on a 15Khz CRT?
Thanks for confirming it works. Not sure why it does not work on mine, my TV is vanilla PAL (and handles NTSC) and all the other cores work fine, thsi one just is not syncing at all.

Re: Direct Video Output
Atari ST core for some reason outputs 31Khz so it won't work on your (and mine) consumer CRT TV. OP meant it's not working on CRT VGA monitors when used via Direct Video (but is ok via I/O).

Re: Is there a way to force (globally) 60Hz?
I get it the other way: C64 and Atari 800 (and perhaps more machines) default to NTSC, which is slightly annoying since I want them in PAL. My CRT TV can handle NTSC though so it's not a problem to change it (no rolling here). But I thought Save Settings in the OSD would save a permanent config? Haven't messed around enough with it yet. Also C16 co...

Re: Best / easiest way to connect to a Sony PVM-14N5U monitor?
https://misterfpga.org/viewtopic.php?f=33&t=336 Probably best asking @antoniovillena from this thread, he makes dedicated S-Video/Composite adapters. Perhaps HDMI-VGA would work with them but I'm not 100% sure. Or maybe one of these cheap arcade VGA-Composite converters from ebay would work too...Though the aforementioned adapter has a fair pri...

I started having a kind of similar problem - but only when I try to boot into 48K Spectrum mode. The other ones (+2, Pentagon, etc) work OK. When i try to boot into 48k mode it either hangs on previous screen or produces a black screen (but not on borders).

Re: VGA Scaler (240p) for CRT
I know, I'm watching this thread since I'm very interested in this subject.
I was wondering if it'd maybe be possible to use this method to display other non-15khz cores (Atari ST, BB, etc) on 15khz TVs.

Re: Accuracy of C64 PAL AR?
Display of most (every?) platform looks "squished" in PAL, compared to NTSC. This is rather obvious, so I thought you were asking how precise is MiSTer's PAL representation compared to the real C64's PAL output. The answer to that is: quite possibly 1:1 (after some highly scientific measurements involving a piece of string)...the differen...

There are scanlines on a real VGA 640x400 but much subtler than on usual CRT TVs or CGA. It also depends on monitor size (more inches=more pronounced scanlines).

Re: Flash cartridges with original hardware are basically FPGA already?
These are different products not because of their internal tech but because of choices made for their design. It's basically motherboard replacements (designed to fit with original hw), so perhaps it's better to compare it to the ZX-Go+? You say tomato, I say... :) But the internal tech is also different. Obviously. ZX Uno (FPGA) is pretty much ZX...

I was replying to you both. If you missed the point, I don't know how I can follow up, but I'll try: The only "point" I thought you might be replying to was the one contained in the thread's title. Problem is, forum threads usually expand in scope, this one is no different, and so my post was referring both to OP's further musings and wh...

Re: Flash cartridges with original hardware are basically FPGA already?
@retrorepair: I'm not quite sure what your point is, or who you're replying to (me, or OP) so I will also refrain from reply. @Newsdee: "Clone hardware" for me is something like Just Speccy or other chip-for-chip reimplementation. FPGA isn't that. The point about "blind test" was that I'm pretty sure many, many people would stru...

Re: Flash cartridges with original hardware are basically FPGA already?
I think most similar topics are extremely subjective and a lot of opinions in regard to them are based on feelings and/or received wisdom. As such, there is no single right "answer" really. Sometimes I like to imagine a blind test experiment, in which you'd be given a controller and display only, with a running game, and would have to gue...

Re: List of Core Requiring BIOS Files
With C16: "Put boot.rom into C16 folder." https://github.com/MiSTer-devel/C16_MiSTer I assume this means you need to add that file, but it's not a core I have tried. I thought so too , but now I think it's optional. The wording in the wiki suggests that, but it's the same with VIC-20 and yet that core does not require boot.rom (it adds s...

Re: C16 boot.rom?
I did, but it does not sync at all (CRT TV via Direct Video). I thought it's because of the lack of that .rom, because wiki says it's a 240p core.
EDIT: I've just tried the VIC core - it works fine, without the boot.rom. So I suppose my real issue with C16 is video related. Perhaps it does not output 15khz...

Has anybody tried C16 core on a 15Khz CRT?
EDIT: I've started this topic to inquire about boot.rom (see posts below), but now I think my problem is video related. When I start the C16 core it does not sync at all. MiSTer is connected to a CRT TV via Direct Video and VGA-SCART cable. Has anybody managed to get it working on a similar setup? ********* Original post ************** I'm probably...

Re: Using the scaler to downscale to 15khz
Still, I'm not sure why Atari ST outputs 31khz only. It was one of its possible frequencies (for hi res) but majority of people used it with normal 15Khz TVs, via RGB or composite in the lo res mode. Could be the same for BBC.

Re: Using the scaler to downscale to 15khz
It's something that's been on my mind since I got my MiSTer. It'd be great to be able to display VGA cores on my CRT TV. That's especially in regard to micros like BBC & Atari ST, since that's what they were primarily used with.
Doubt it's possible though, probably the only solution are some expensive scalers such as Corio :/

Re: HDMI to Component (for old JVC CRT TV)
Wiki says to use HDMI-VGA converter, not HDMI-Component. Maybe it will work, but I personally wouldn't risk it.
When looking for my HDMI-VGA DAC I typed in the search the name of the recommended chip - AG6200...just to be on the safe side.
Then you'll need an appropriately modded cable, check the wiki for details.

Re: HDMI to Scart adapter
This is the cable which I mentoned earlier, and at 42$ is really expensive. Smoke Mosters says in this advertorial that 'a cheap, modified VGA-to-SCART cable, they are far from ideal in a lot of ways" but he fails to mention what these "ways" might be. Sure, an unshielded cable might be a bit worse, but any other decent (and still ve...
