Re: N64 Core

I would say his speedup of ao486 counts too because it became a serious core with real performance at that point and it has a massive library of games.

Re: Groovy_MiSTer Core

I recently tried to go to the 0325 version and also the 0327 version and could not get it to work. I followed the instructions. Putting the original one back worked again. I think it locked up when I tried if I recall correctly. I am hoping I can eventually get the new versions to work, but I am not sure what could be causing my problem. I didn't c...

Re: Store All My Original Hardware and Use Only MiSTer

Dang this thread is non-characteristic of the norm on this forum. I am glad it seems to have worked itself out to a more normal footing. For me, the MiSTer is very special. No, it is not real hardware. It doesn't have that feeling of plugging in cartridges and flipping switches, etc. However, for me, it is like having version 2.0 of real hardware, ...

Re: Vectrex Output to an Oscilloscope Through VGA Port

If I have to rewind the yoke, then definitely it wouldn't be possible. I was thinking of having separate electronics boards both wired up and just power one on at a time or something like that.

Re: Vectrex Output to an Oscilloscope Through VGA Port

Man I so want that. I actually made my own arcade cabinet in the theme of the Star Wars vector arcade cabinet with a rotatable CRT in it. I wonder if I could hodgepodge a vector / raster mode switch into it. That would be totally amazing if I could get Star Wars working in vector mode and still be able to play Donkey Kong, etc. in raster mode. http...

Just found this too: https://youtu.be/-o5zJ1T778g It would be very cool to make a Vector monitor and MiSTer cores for it.

Re: The State of DACs for the MiSTer and Direct Video

FYI - The device that I use that works really really well for me and I think is no longer made uses an Explore EP9851 DAC. http://img.hqew.com/file/others/500000-509999/501681/electronic/201288121722596731.pdf If there are any devices today that use that DAC, that is what I recommend for the MiSTer. It has perfect color and no sync issues. Edit: I ...

Re: N64 Core

I just got a 4-player SNAC adapter. Is there a way to plug in my memory card from my real N64 and use its save games? When I launch Super Mario 64, it is using the save games from the MiSTer, not from the memory card, and I am not sure what settings to change to get it to use the SNAC port. Thanks!

Re: Horizontal and Vertical Shift Options for Analog Output

Wish it worked with component video. If this exists, then maybe it can be implemented in the main part of the MiSTer in the video chain similar to the scaler. Then in each core save the offsets when saving the core settings.

Re: Groovy_MiSTer Core

Is this core working with Direct Video? I'm not able to get any picture at all with HDMI converted to VGA, but VGA over analog IO works fine. I have a legacy analog IO 6.1 board so I wanted to try the PWM option over Direct Video and it's not showing any picture with either latest stable or testing builds. Yes, it works for me with Direct Video (n...

Re: Atari 7800 / 2600

Today I tried playing Asteroids for the 2600 and it is causing my MiSTer to become unstable. Hitting F12 after loading Asteroids is slow to respond. The sound cuts in and out. Does anyone else have this problem? Other games seem to work fine. Thanks! Edit: OK, this is weird. I also have "Atari 2600" in my core list (from an mgl file), and...

It certainly helps to have the motivation to tackle such large projects again, that seem so difficult you shouldn't even try. Putting in my bid now for a Windows 98SE / DOS core with a 3Dfx graphics card. :-) Create a custom modern x86 32-bit CPU designed around the strengths and weaknesses of the DE10 Nano to maximize performance, and have basic ...

Re: N64 Core Development Ends

The N64 core is absolutely incredible. It is shocking to me that this thread has such a sad feel to it. The core is a triumph and should be celebrated! As a side note, I am wondering if slightly underclocking the core where needed could solve the remaining issues with latency for those games and just put an option in the core for it. It might cause...

It would be stupid to work on a core that already exists.

Not necessarily true. There are many cores that can be improved and there are several that have been with completely new cores. Sometimes it is better to just start over. I personally prefer quality or as close to perfect as possible over quantity.

Re: Donkey Kong: Walking Sound Hack?

I can confirm that since I first mentioned I was having trouble with multiple jumping, I have gotten better at it to the point it is not really an issue anymore. I think I was jumping too early like you mentioned. Mame might have a bit more lag so that could be why it was less of an issue for me. That's pretty awesome to have multiple Million-plus ...

Re: Groovy_MiSTer Core

This needs a broadcast solution; is possible but how many have more than 1 MiSTer? I know a few people do. How many would actually use this feature, I have no idea. Also, how many people have CRT's in different rooms? I just thought of it so I thought I would share it, but depending on the amount of effort, it might not be worth the trouble. For m...

Re: Groovy_MiSTer Core

Quick Question, does this solution allow you to play vertical games well on a horizontal CRT? Say you have a 25" CRT, which gives you the needed room to show vertical games pretty close to what a 19" monitor would look like. Wondering if this solution does that. If you use 240p, you will lose lines of resolution. For example if you play ...

Me too! I love Antonio's Mister, the only oversight was the 4 cells memory, but nothing 50$ couldn't fix. I'm definitely gonna try this.

What is the issue with the memory? I haven't had any issues with it.

Re: Groovy_MiSTer Core

I am not sure if this has been covered or not, but is it possible to stream this to multiple MiSTer's at the same time? It would be cool to have this option for a sort of video distribution system, especially now with the ability to stream PC applications and that could be used for watching movies on CRT's in different rooms for example.

Re: Donkey Kong: Walking Sound Hack?

That is interesting because I experienced the opposite. Easier to jump in the core than in Mame. It could be related to controller lag because I used a different controller for Mame. After a lot of practice I was able to consistently do the double jump a few times in a row. It is just a matter of figuring out when to start the first jump. Yeah, it...

Very cool! Does this work with the native PC resolution, so whatever custom resolution you set up in the OS gets sent, or does/can it use the MiSTer's scaler somehow? 24bit video output is the reason I went with Antonio Villena's product. This is a very good thing for the MiSTer CRT community. Thanks! If I had one request, it would be to use separate 2-pin connectors like those on USB encoder boards for reset, OSD and user button connections, but it's not the end of the world if it didn't happen. Re: Donkey Kong: Walking Sound Hack?

I mentioned it previously, but I suspect there is an issue with the controls where it misses at least the jump input once in awhile when jumping repeatedly. I haven't done extensive testing yet to confirm this. I notice it on the blue board when I try to jump next to Donkey Kong and push right to get 100 points repeatedly. It's hard to get it to ne...
