MiSTer is open source and hobby project. You can't request what specific developer should do. What is interesting for you might be out of interest for specific developer. srg320 has no plans for Gameboy core, so don't expect too much. Open source should encourage curious people to start to develop, especially the things they really want to improve...

I can't imagine SMS would benefit from it as much as Genesis. From what I understand it blends pixels into each other and gives the image a look of old composite video output. It looks beautifully CRT so why would any core not benefit (or benefit less) from it? I guess because of the color palette? EDIT: Cleaned up misunderstanding Well the reason...

Yes you would do just fine with that, but like others said, I'd recommend the cooling fan and top plate too. It'll be a lot cheaper than a I/O board.
