Re: Stumped.
You should be more precise: which are the directories on your SD card, which ones on the USB drive? Are you still "Switched to USB" or did you use "Switch to SD Card"? You said "I didn't even know this option existed ": which option? I was also using "Switch to USB", now I am "running from the SD card&q...
Stumped.
I've been using the now redundant "switch to usb" option since I've had my MiSTer. Yesterday I moved everything, RBFs, MRAs, config files etc over to the SD and kept just the games, disc and HDD images on my USB SSD... I didn't even know this option existed and I was planning either to use 'symlinks or mount --bind' to make everything sho...

Re: RetroArch-style shaders via add-on board
I just wonder how low-spec of a GPU you could get away with if it were purely dedicated to shader math? Not something that is very easy to test of course but I know that a launch Nintendo Switch running various 16bit emulators in RetroArch does a pretty good job with the ‘CRT-Royale’ shader in handheld mode which GPU wise is roughly the same power...

My mistake was putting mine in a metal pc case with no grounding and metal external buttons and having a chair that builds static charge like crazy. Shorted one of the gates used for the LEDs permanently beware the dreaded static folks.

Re: Puzzle Bobble (maybe more)
Same as you really in 'switch to USB' I couldn't remember what it was called so that's why I wrote it like that 😂, the SD card just has all the stuff required to boot and all the games and 'emulator' binaries live on the USB drive. I did think of using Symlinks to keep the Neogeo games on the SD card but it seemed a little crazy for the one game th...

Puzzle Bobble (maybe more)
On my MiSTer I use a USB SSD to store everything and the system switches to it at boot time. I found trying to load Puzzle Bobble (pbobblen) that it will hang during initial loading and will hang the MiSTer requiring a full reset, it will work perfectly fine if I load it from the SD card. Puzzle bobble 2 and a handful of other games I tested work f...

Re: MiSTer FPGA Community Survey Results
I think if we start to see OLED monitors with extremely fast response times and a future iteration of MiSTer with a larger FPGA or ARM side with a GPU we could make it pretty close to indistinguishable from a CRT using good shaders and fake scan lines. Will never happen. Fake scanlines are utter shite, excuse the language, but I really hate puttin...

Re: MiSTer FPGA Community Survey Results
I'm the same I have CRT however, spend most of the time using a modern hdmi monitor. Yea, especially when so many of the computer cores don't play nicely with consumer TVs so you either need a BVM or a VGA monitor which adds to the expense. So if it's a console game that I really enjoy I'll turn on the TV but for everything else I just use a monit...

Re: MiSTer FPGA Community Survey Results
The day I can play Duck Hunt natively without any tricks on a flat panel along with native resolutions and refresh rates is the day I will consider dumping my CRT's. Until then, long live CRT's! Well said. I would never swap any of my 14 CRTs with any of my LCD/PC Monitors. And, I have yet to see a shader, anywhere on planet earth, that can simula...

Definitely unsurprised by the age results, it's the group that grew up in the 8,16 & 32 bit era and most likely have some disposable income to put into the hobby, sadly we are probably the ones with least amount of time to indulge

I've received the new de10 nano and everything is working fine with it, the already prepared 200go card is booting, no issues when saving any kind of parameters... I mount every extension and still no issues... So yes, the first one I received has a problem with its SD card slot! Once again thanks to all, but what you're saying Blitzwing scares me...

I've tried to clean this SD card reader on the nano board with a tiny brush and... The SD card booted, so then I unplug and plugin just to see, without touching anything else than the plug... And then it didn't boot again and never since. Still no response from ultimate mister, but I found a de10 nano at an acceptable price to I bough it and we wi...

Working now. Made a new drive and it all seems good. Not sure what changed. That's great glad you got it working, never found a moment to sit in front of the MiSTer to get it done until now. Not that it matters now but I couldn't replicate the issue you were having, I guess just like all electronics/software things can just go awry sometimes.

same ^ and tbh, laxer is leaving a lot of money on the table. his generosity with handing over his work like that is equally commendable, and the next team to finish this up will have a great head start ! Looking good, did "um and ah" about getting a checkmate case as I wanted to have something to sit my old CRT TV on but I just couldn't do it as it is quite expensive, ended up going with a Node 202 instead and just doing a custom mount, now I'm wishing I'd gone with the Checkmate lol.

fingers crossed this core gets a beta release in the next couple years. ultra's last comment there, about the core being ported from xilinx to MiSTer and if "it fits" is something the next team will have to figure out. id imagine jotego's new DDR controller could be used, as it addresses bandwidth and latency (altho i have no idea how mu...

Sad to see it go this way. Would appear from the outside to be an issue about % ownership of the project/proceeds which might explain the "friction". Disappointed about the news, but Laxer has been very open and forthcoming with all information up to this point and at least all the work Patreons have supported has been put up on GitHub. ...

So I can use any fuse? Sorry you lost me at the breaker board bit lol. I don't know why I've never bothered understanding all this stuff over the years. Maybe you have heard of this already but you could try google "ground loop" and try out the known steps for addressing this issue. I followed the advice of others in these forums and got a mi...

Interesting, I suppose it probably doesn't crop up to much if it is a bug, as I doubt many people are using applications designed to show a mouse pointer in DOS. I know from my own experience though I've never had it in Warcraft 1 and theme hospital.

Thanks for everyone's input. Regarding the low latency of the Mister that everyone mentions - does this also apply if using a LCD TV via HDMI or is it really to do with viewing on a CRT? I would be using a LCD so I wonder if then the Mister would suffer just the same as a Pi would. I wouldn't be buying the analog IO. If I go for either it would be...

I thought I was just getting a bit rusty with playing old games, until I connected my MiSTer to a CRT. All of a sudden games that require fast reaction were so much easier (I first noticed that playing Shadow of the Beast on the Amiga core). My first one I started was Mega Turrican on the megadrive and it just felt so good to play... For those of ...

Re: Is MiSTer FPGA Overkill For My Needs?
With the MiSTer, I'm very impressed with the low latency ("lag") and the fact that the screen refresh rate matches that of the system being emulated, e.g. 50 Hz for the Spectrum core (one of my favourites). This eliminates tearing and stuttering. I'm not so impressed about accuracy in general, though. It depends on the core, but in many ...

I could add another avalon slave for polling interrupts thought it'd be better with real interrupts. I'll try the slave method for now then improve after.
Doing some timing and seem to get ~2MB/s. So better fix that!
