Re: Direct Video Questions

I am always open to new information but I am not sure what you are saying here. Limited range by definition has black starting at 7.5 IRE, so if you look at an oscilloscope you will see a pedestal that will show a black signal from the source starting at ~50mV. With a broadcast grade pattern generator set to limited range with RGB you will see a p...

Could you clarify how this setting affects Direct Video ? Can it mess up Direct Video compatibility ? Thanks ! Most likely in the worst case the DAC might not output audio. Thought I would post this DAC analysis I have been working on here.. https://tinyurl.com/crt-hdmi2vgadacs Right now I believe there is only one DAC that is truly accurate for t...

Yes, if the core uses the unmodified sys framework.

The cores by Jotego and DB9 cores have modified the framework and do pull some pins high when DB9/DB15 is selected.

What kind of info do you want about that?

Those mappers need to be manually selected for them to work.

srg320 made the Super FX implementation from scratch. It has been reported that the Star Fox ending runs at the correct speed unlike the SD2SNES.

Stunt Race FX enables 21Mhz mode and high speed multiplier so it is probably something related to the higher speed.

Maybe it is something like that but usually reloading the bios does not work and the core has to be restarted so it is unlikely that just the bios is decaying.

Re: Super Game Boy SNES core with MSU

Such an outstanding work to fit this and make it work, thank you so much for implementing it. Removing the cartridge special chips freed up a lot of resources. The memory for the GBC part could also be removed like WRAM(24KB) and VRAM(8KB). I used Sorgelig's SDRAM controller from the NES core which has different channels. So SNES and GB both use s...

Super Game Boy SNES core with MSU

Finally convinced myself to try to combine the SNES and Gameboy cores so all Super Game Boy functions could work. Well here it is. It is the SNES core modified to only support the Super Game Boy because it can't fit otherwise. Even Gameboy MSU works since the SNES MSU stuff is still used. There are 3 speed choices. SGB1, SGB2 and SNES. The SGB2 opt...

Fixed HBlank/VBlank: Games can change the position/size of the image which will cause sync loss with the scaler & vsync_adjust=2. Enable these with HDMI to fix that. Positioning and shake effects will also work better. Sync 480i for HDMI: This will keep the line count/refresh rate the same in 480i and 240p to prevent sync loss. If you enable th...

Re: Can't understand how to get pixel perfect resolution on my Philips CM8833 CRT

It is not so odd. This core forces cropping to 216p when the output resolution is 1920x1080. This cropping also affects the analog output. (Analog being affected by 216p happens on all cores. Something which should be improved)

If you enable Direct video then the resolution is changed so cropping is disabled.

Re: Adjustable Composite Converter?

With my adapter is possible to send directly the color carrier clock, through vsync pin. But there is no support for that in the cores. Yup, exactly, that's what I meant when I said "I get the feeling it will be a long time, if ever, before we see cores that send the correct frequency to adapters like Antonio's that support the signal." ...

Re: Cannot see JAMMA controls through JAMMAsd or IPAC

Well you must be doing something wrong then. jamma_vid/pid is basically used for translating a keyboard to 2 joypads.

Most cores don't support keyboard for controls and as you noticed the input tester also does not. So it is needed to use jamma_vid/pid.

Re: Unlicensed Gameboy Game Support

I think using file extensions is the way to go. I have looked into the list of unlicensed games that Moondandy posted and only Mani 4-in-1 DMG 601 and the Wisdom Tree games need special treatment because detection is difficult. Some just need to run in GBC mode and others work by defaulting to MBC1 when the ROM is set to No mapper and size is large...

I am working on adding a setting for unknown mappers with a few different mapper choices including ones for Mani 4in1 and Wisdom Tree games. For example Captain Knick-Knack works with MBC1. These unlicensed games ususally don't set the header correctly and it is difficult to detect them. Games like La Sa Ma Chuan Qi - Story of Lasama (Unlicensed) [...

Re: Lag tester core - diagnosing variable lag?

You should probably try pin 1 of the P7 connector on the IO board. The instructions say pin 2 of the Arduino should be connected to the User IO TX (D+) line. On the P7 connector TX is pin 2 but D+ on the USERIO(USB) connector is connected to pin 1 of the P7 connector so the instructions don't make sense. I can't find the source for the NES lag test...

Re: Lag tester core - diagnosing variable lag?

Definitely something wrong if you need to load a ROM. Obviously it wouldn't make sense to rely on a ROM polling the controller for this

Maybe you connected the wire to the wrong USERIO pin or maybe you have SNAC enabled which is interfering.

Re: Non uniform color of gradient ramp with analog output

With the 6 bit limitation of the IO board you might see uneven brightness but since grey color means 3 equal R,G,B signals there shouldn't be any tint. Unless you are using YPbPr.

Check the grey ramp in the SNES core. It has a more linear color output than the Genesis.

You should also make sure you are not using Gamma correction.
