Re: NES Composite Output

It's not a good clock. You can check with an oscilloscope. You can try with a proper one for example with an external oscillator and this will work Did you actually check the clock with an oscilloscope or did you just guess? There is no reason for it to be a bad clock because it is coming directly from the PLL. Unless the VSync line has interferen...

Re: NES Composite Output

I have answered all your emails. The ZXDOS board has exactly the same circuit for video DAC. Also I have tried the clock detecting circuit during the prototype phase. So using an external clock on VSYNC override the internal crystals. You haven't answered the last email I sent you 2 weeks ago where I asked you to check the clock signal on the VSyn...

Re: NES Composite Output

Moreover it has clock detection on VSYNC pin. If a clock is detected this clock override the PAL or NTSC crystals. If one day Mister Fpga cores would generate this clock on VSYNC pin the adapter would automatically work using that clock and avoiding the "moving dot crawls" behaviour so I wouldn't have the need of replace it with a new on...

Re: Two arcade joysticks on one control panel

This input subsystem really needs reworked! Agreed, and the sooner the better because the longer it goes on, the more cores will need to be updated to the new framework. Maybe I am missing something but I don't know what the problem is. All cores on MiSTer expect different controllers per player so if you want to use 2 joysticks for 2 players then...

Re: Screen tearing after playing Zelda LTTP for multiple hours.

@Grabulosaure What I think is happening is that in some edge case 'o_ibuf0' and 'o_obuf0' become equal. The 'buf_next' function defaults to buffer 1 so when o_ibuf0 and o_obuf0 are equal then they both get stuck at buffer 1. I had to wait a long time for it to start tearing again but I could finally confirm with SignalTap that they are both stuck a...

Re: Screen tearing after playing Zelda LTTP for multiple hours.

Thanks for confirming @paulbnl! What you’re describing is *exactly* what I’m witnessing. Can this be fixed by the MiSTer team? Surely there is a way to output a signal that will not tear. I’ve played my SNES Classic for an ungodly amount of hours and never once have I seen it tear, and it’s also sending a 720p signal. So certainly the TV is not at...

Re: Screen tearing after playing Zelda LTTP for multiple hours.

It is important to note that there are 2 different issues here: Tearing with vsync_adjust=0: Caused by MiSTer scaler. This is visible on all displays/capture cards. Tearing with Samsung and vsync_adjust=1/2. Caused by Samsung. Tip: Do not buy Samsung and i can confirm, i have left my MiSTer running for several hours, both in SNES and letting a CPS2...

Re: Screen tearing after playing Zelda LTTP for multiple hours.

@paulbnl I'd like to reproduce this myself - which Zelda? Zelda a Link To The Past USA version with vsync_adjust=0, video_mode=0, vscale_mode=2. I suspect it does not matter which game you run. I left the SNES 240p test suite running for more than 5 hours with vsync_adjust=0, video_mode=8, vscale_mode=0 and I don't see tearing yet. It could be tha...

Re: Screen tearing after playing Zelda LTTP for multiple hours.

As someone suggested, I tried disconnecting and reconnecting the HDMI cable and it didn’t do anything. I loaded another SNES game and it persisted. I switched to the NES core and loaded a game, and that made the tearing go away. Switched back to the SNES core and loaded a game and it was fine. Doesn’t seem like the MiSTer itself is the problem if ...

Re: Direct Video HDMI to Component CRT 480i TV

That one looks interesting. I like the HDMI passthrough so it can stay connected if you want to switch to an HDTV. Can you test if it takes longer for the CRT TV to sync when the HDMI passthrough is connected compared to a HDMI->VGA converter directly connected without HDMI switches/splitters? When I connect the HDMI->VGA converter into a splitter ...

Re: NES core colour changes in v201102

- Genesis doesn't work in EU mode, it's out of sync. I'm guessing that's because I have an NTSC TV, so I tried setting a min refresh rate. That did nothing, and I have to set it to US or JP. That's not a big issue, I have a workaround for Genesis, but other cores I could not get to work, like Vectrex, Odissey2, Moon Patrol... I am guessing direct_...

Re: NES core colour changes in v201102

What I find interesting is that he manages to use directVideo enabled for 240p via a similar converter. Is that hard to find ebay converter really special or could there be a way to get 240p on all cores that support it to work? I guess it's worth a try once I get mine. What is not clear, is if he keeps the same settings for all 240p cores. There ...

Re: NES core colour changes in v201102

1- What about when used in HDMI to yPbPr mode, with direct_video off: can the mister output 480i to connect it to a consumer CRT TV component input? I assume that in that case the same scaler and lag as HDMI out apply (+ what ever the converter box adds, but I assume it doesn't add lag). Perhaps that would be a way to ensure compatibility with the...

Re: NES core colour changes in v201102

The Component output on the one in the photos above doesn't work with Directvideo for me. Only the VGA output works with Directvideo. If you can solder then you can mod a HDMI to VGA convertor/cable to output Component but that is not compatible with all TVs. https://github.com/MiSTer-devel/Main_MiSTer/wiki/Direct-Video A HDMI to VGA converter in c...

Re: Direct Video to Toshiba Arcade CRT test (RGBHV via D-Sub)

I wouldn't worry about the DoDonpachi core. It has known analog video issues. Those colored bars don't come from the DE10 Nano so it's likely to come from the HDMI-VGA adapter assuming you have connected other equipment to the monitor and haven't seen that issue before. That you don't get a signal with composite_sync=1 is a bad sign assuming you ha...

That is very strange for a Sony Trinitron. Does that happen with all cores?

Re: PAL Compatibility Tip for LCDs

That comment was in MiSTer.ini before video_mode_pal was added. It is invalid now.

video_mode_pal was added specifically for compatibility reasons to switch to 720p50 or 1080p50 with 50Hz content because they have longer Horizontal blanking compared to their 60hz modes.

Re: X-Arcade Duel Tank Stick Button Mapping Issue with Street Fighter 2

MiSTer is able to convert JammaSD/J-PAC/I-PAC keyboard keys to joysticks but the X-Arcade has slightly different keyboard keys. You need to reprogram the X-Arcade stick to send the same keys as J-PAC listed here at the J-PAC installation tab: https://www.ultimarc.com/control-interfaces/j-pac-en/j-pac-jamma-interface/ After that follow this tutorial...

If you just look at the sdram module instantiation then you can see that it doesn't use bit 0 of ioctl_addr because ioctl_addr is a byte address and it is writing words.

I have the one from here: viewtopic.php?p=13379#p13379

There appear to be versions with different internals. Someone reported Component was working with Direct Video with theirs but only VGA works with Direct Video on mine.

It has perfect 0-255 VGA output.

The hdmi_audio_96k setting also affects Direct Video.

Re: Sync issue on Vertical cores

The image is too narrow because the scaler thinks your TV is very wide at 640x240 which is 8:3. That's why the image is half width. You can set a custom aspect ratio at 8:3 so that it results in 4:3. So I tried changing the 240 to 480 which improved the width: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1su7HFNzmr6K3wxOKwLdJQ0aJK0aW0vH4/view?usp=sharing Wow I ...
