Re: Can fast USB polling be slower?

Some devices don't react well to it, yes. Either minimal change or even additional problems.

The scripts changes the file /linux/u-boot.txt on your SD card. The fast one uses the number 1000 for 1ms polling. You can change it to 500 for 2ms, 250 for 4ms, etc.

Dumb question but do I need to enable Y/C builds in the update_all settings or is that just an old setting from before the Y/C stuff got into the regular MiSTer distribution?

Nope that is over. Any Y/C cores are already part of main now. Just have to tweak your mister.ini to enable.

Re: H/V centering on console cores over VGA

Part of the reason its there for the arcades, is that most home devices followed some kind of standard so that users wouldn't have to fiddle with their geometry for each system to have something usable. You would just need maintenence guy to calibrate it to standard and it should work good enough for all home systems, with either large borders padd...

Re: 1080P Display Issue Other Resolutions Work Including 1440P

Instead of using the built-in video modes, try spelling it out yourself. It will create different blanking parameters that might work different.

Code: Select all

video_mode=1920,1080,60,cvt

You can also remove the cvt and try that too.

Re: MiSTerFPGA Y/C Out Module (Direct - S-Video / Composite Output) - Update

I thought most psx games were 15-bit, with a handful of still images being 24-bit. The 24-bit rendering option is kind of a hack that is better than real hardware, and the 24-bit dithering relies on it. There could still be an issue with the video output (always feels too dark to me) but its probably not simply being bit-starved...

Re: Recommendations for INI settings for PVM 20l5?

The analog output of the x68000 is a little shaky in general. On a VGA monitor the 512p modes there's a slight waviness to the alternating lines. The only way for a user to "fix" it is the ugly, frightening world of vga_scaler which few want to descend into, because it basically means you have to provide the resolutions yourself instead o...

How can it be 66 hz with vsync_adjust=1? That should bump up the refresh to match the core output, which would be closer to 70 for 200/400p?

Re: Forcing the MiSTer to display in 50hz on CRT?

Oh right, for Atari ST, most games will go to 50hz if you supply a UK bios instead of US. Some will still force 60hz though, and you might need to find a UK version of those games.

The scaler advice is for cores that never had any built in 50hz ability like arcade cores.

Re: Forcing the MiSTer to display in 50hz on CRT?

You can use the scaler to fake it (vga_scaler=1), but if you go that route, rather than outputting 50hz, you can instead adjust the scaler to add larger horizontal blank to 60hz output so it fits on your display. See this for more details, try the calculator to make a starting modeline, and then try adjusting the horizontal blanking parameters unt...

Re: VRR on OLED Issues

Just tried after an update with my C1 and I see no issues with freesync. My menu core is in 1080p SDR I don't know if that matters. I should note due to past sync problems I've seen with this TV (not blackscreen but rather wobbly/wavy lines) , I don't use video_mode=8. Instead I spell it out using standard cvt-rb timings:

Code: Select all

video_mode=1920,1080,60

If that is a monitor with a genuine g-sync module I become suspicious. They aren't as tolerant of your average monitor of non-native resolutions and especially weird aspect ratios like 4:3, so its possibly an issue for your test device as well as maybe the Mister itself.

Are there other panels purporting sub 2ms response times? I was under the impression that was a main feature along with 4:3? Bob measured input lag, that is not the same thing as response time. For "gaming" computer monitors, 1-2ms input lag is very much the norm, response time that low is very much harder to come by. (Basically 240hz OL...

Re: A Couple of Set up Issues Wallpapers, Net Radio, Autofire

I think the idea with custom wallpapers is that Mister picks a random one of the customs each time: its not for letting you browse the wallpapers in Mister with F1. So its more like a single custom slot, and if that slot is selected, it loads a random eligible wallpaper each boot. There's packs with hundreds of wallpapers just so you see something ...

WIth the Arcooda you're partly paying for the ability to directly input 15khz analog sources into an LCD and have them not look like total garbage. Kind of irrelevant feature for Mister with its HDMI option.

Re: Can't get MiSTer to put out a good picture through VGA- Scart cable

I'd be more likely to blame your I/O board or cable than the ini at this point. Not that many settings you can (or should need to) change for analog out to 15khz.

Are you certain your SCART cable and the TV are rated for RGB input, and not one of them trying to do composite instead?

It shouldn't matter but I'm not using separate ntsc/pal video modes (just video_mode=1920,1080,60). 8 and 9 are not equivalent, 9 has much larger blanking for compatibility purposes.

For these compilations, are there known games that have any enhanced sound options beyond pc-speaker? I know the tandy had more voices for its speaker, but I'm wondering about mt-32, sound canvas, or even adlib support. (Can the core itself do these anyway?)

When I move between the first few rooms in the game there is zero visible transition, just like in the video, it just pauses staring at the current screen, and eventually the next screen is immediately shown. I mentioned 1080p because I have a feeling you may get different results with other resolutions. Mega-AGS is well configured for 1080p, being...

Re: Amiga Vision (Formally MegaAGS?)

Amiga 50hz timings seem pretty wacky in terms of producing an image way off-center compared to PAL consoles but I gather that is true to original hardware. You adjust your CRT to match the Amiga experience, but it probably won't look great for most other cores. You can use the scaler to push a 240/270p? resolution to your CRT and control the center...

You made it sound like you were using directvideo with the monitor on its side when you brought up the scandoubler, but maybe not? Scandoubler will give you basic scanline/scandoublerfx options in most cores. If you want to use the fancier filters, you need to turn off direct_video and supply a resolution compatible with your display. (maybe 1920x1...

vrr_mode=2 works for me on the LG C1. Also be sure you go in game optomizer on the TV and flip on freesync.

vrr_mode=3 might work too but I haven't tried. You would need forum vrr/g-sync turned on in game optomizer for that.

...is that Kentucky Fried Chicken? :p

480p scanlines are tiny, even when visible its never as honking big as 240p. Standard Definition sets were aimed at 480i, the gaps in 240p are visible mainly because it was never a resolution intended by the TV industry.
