@pac the obvious CP that prevents boot entirely, agreed - UniBIOS doesn't do anything for the ones with in-game protection.

Re: Terminator Mega CD No Sound

I've seen some 'bad' CHDs, but it wasn't related to compression rate as far as I can tell. I use them religiously on MiSTer and Retroarch without issue at all.

Re: Red Light Showing When Loading Any Core

Red light - completely normal.

Blank screen - likely a refresh rate issue conflict between your arcade display and the CRT. Make sure you've removed or commented out any arcade-monitor-specific modelines and the like from MiSTer.ini.

Re: MiSTer Super Attract Mode (SAM) is now available - the first game screensaver for your MiSTer!

Quick SAM question specific to Amiga - when games/demos run in SAM, the aspect ratio is messed up and they display entirely full-screen (i.e. widescreen), but look 'normal' under MegaAGS. Is there anything I can do about that? EDIT: Even though aspect ratio for the Minimig core was set to 'Original', I had to set it to Original again (by toggling i...

OK...as long as it's not just me, it's not an issue...you have to literally stare at the countdown to see it, and I'm normally looking at the games. ;)

Re: MiSTer Super Attract Mode (SAM) is now available - the first game screensaver for your MiSTer!

Serial controller is CP2102N. Only the one TTY device. No tasks running except tty2oled and SAM. CPU clocked at 1.2GHz, RAM at 1GHz. If I stare at an entire 3-minute cycle of a game on SAM, it 'skips' one second twice during the 168-second countdown, roughly equally spaced apart. It would seem that each 'second' actually lasts 1.0119 seconds, leadi...

Mine is ESP32. Like I said, once I updated tty2oled to the latest, the skips are very infrequent...but if you watch long enough, you'll see one. It was far worse before, skipping every 4-5 seconds.

Update: When I updated the tty2oled script, the issue with 'jumping' numbers seems GREATLY reduced (it still happens, but it's extremely infrequent now).

Is that particular function controlled by tty2oled itself? If so, I'll tag @venice about it.

Re: MiSTer Nuked-MD MegaDrive Core

Because nobody gives a whit about latency if the gameplay is inaccurate, which is where accuracy is normally defined. Take Bubble Bobble, for instance. Without a proper decap of the MCU, for decades emulation of such an old game suffered to such a degree that gameplay was severely impacted. If you took that and made it ultra low latency...would it ...

Re: MiSTer Nuked-MD MegaDrive Core

There are certainly many (MANY!) latency benefits...I was referring purely to accuracy. I'm not sure who first started the trope about FPGA being more accurate "because it's hardware instead of software", but if I ever meet them in a dark alley, they shall pay. LOL

There was a HUGE kerfuffle at the idea of merging the cores, so I don't expect that will ever happen.

Re: MiSTer Nuked-MD MegaDrive Core

Arcade cores are often translated directly from MAME source code. I can't speak for other products.

As has been discussed many times on these forums by now, the primary advantage to FPGA is massive-scale parallelism, not necessarily accuracy. In the latter sense, FPGA has no inherent advantage over software emulation.

Just loaded a fresh copy of SAM and am actively testing (with mostly-default settings).

It's been a bit since I had SAM active...the "Next game in..." countdown now frequently skips a second, like something has it bogged down. Is that normal?

Re: KoF96 Picture crop

When you open the core menu (with F12 or any other means) and choose the Audio & Video section, there's an item called 'Width' - you can set it to either 320px or 304px, the latter being to crop out the blank or 'ugly' pixels on games that don't use the whole screen.

Re: KoF96 Picture crop

Many NG games only output 304 pixels vs. 320. This is one of them.

This can be adjusted in-core via Audio & Video/Width if desired.

Re: MiSTer Super Attract Mode (SAM) is now available - the first game screensaver for your MiSTer!

The problem isn't when SAM is running...it's that if SAM is even loaded and idle/waiting because I'm actually playing a real core, the OLED screen still won't go into screen-saver mode...so the risk of burn-in ironically isn't when SAM is active, but when it's idle (and that's bad).

@Tulius Rename /media/fat/config/N64.CFG to something else temporarily, load the core to check the default settings and note them down, then rename the config back. That will work on any core.

@mike911 I got that list from the earlier Saturn thread - I haven't tested any myself. I'll test VF2 tonight to see what happens on my setup (where Saturn generally behaves itself quite well).
