Re: Something's broken with the HD scaler's buffering/frameskip

Actually when I look at the footage more closely, just as the ball hits the paddle, it SKIPS ahead one frame, which also shouldn’t be happening. If the scaler was working properly, the only thing we should ever see is one frame being repeated every X frames. No forward/backward skips. The order in which buffers are being rendered and then flipped j...

Something's broken with the HD scaler's buffering/frameskip [update: only when display is flipped]

There seems to be something wrong with how the HD scaler skips frames to accomodate for slight refresh rate differences between the TV and original hardware. Specifically I'm referring to using vsync_adjust=0. I noticed it while playing Arkanoid (Arcade), which makes it very easy to spot since the ball moves in a very constant manner: Every once in...

Re: Demons of Asteborg was released today!!!

I purchased the digital download.. So at first ithought it was fine playing it on the mister.. But after trying it on my OG megadrive I noticed that on the OG MD the music had more parts etc, which seem missing when playing on my mister. I would contact the game devs themselves, as they would be interested in hearing this. One of their goals is to...

Indeed! Although it makes me a bit worried about what other similar edge cases might exist but have not yet been identified because no one with good knowledge of how these games operate may have played them enough or at all to notice. :?

Re: DOOM Enemy Behavior?

It seems the issue has been identified and a tentative fix has been made in the GitHub ticket:

Initial reports suggest it works. @John198X can you confirm?

Re: No longer getting video output after update

Some people in the SNES section are reporting that they’re getting no video output if the Shadow Mask option is turned on with no mask selected, or if you previously had a mask selected and the file was removed/renamed due to an update. Maybe see if that’s what’s happening to you? Try either turning off shadow masks or reselecting one?

Lol, it's more like: "Hello Ridge Racer"
If it doesn’t already exist, someone should create a hack for the game that adds a voice clip of Ken Kutaragi saying “It’s Riiiiiiiiiidge Racer!” at the title screen. :P

Re: Running Aladdin Deck Enhancer "Quattro Adventure"

The NES core seems to have issues with these types of multi-games-in-one carts.

Action 52 and Nintendo World Championships suffer from the same problem:

Questions About Security/Password/Network

I have a few questions:

When I connect to my MiSTer via LAN FTP, I’m using the default root / 1 username and password. Can only LAN devices see/connect to the MiSTer or could technically anyone on the internet connect to it with those default credentials? Basically: Am I meant to change them?

Thanks!

I mean, a 1.3MB/s read speed would be pathetic even by 2005 standards. Even the first ever SD Cards had a read speed of 12.5MB/sec.

Why is rom loading so slow on MiSTer?

I was wondering: Why is rom loading so slow on MiSTer? Is there a bottleneck somewhere that is causing this? The SD Card I'm using is rated as rather fast (120MB/s), yet loading a 4MB SNES rom like Donkey Kong Country takes a good 3 seconds. (Which implies it's reading at 1.3MB/s). I mean, what the actual fuck? How can something in 2021 only move d...

I'm new to this forum, having come here to specifically bring up a problem that no one seems to have discovered even though this game is a prime candidate as an edge case that could have problems. I have no idea how any progress or improvements are supposed to happen with attitudes like you're displaying in here. This is an absolute cancer on this...

I'm not being aggressive. You think that is aggressive, then go to Reddit and have a read, or social media - that makes my posts look like a kid's party. Just because you point out to worse doesn't mean that you aren't being aggressive. You are. But then, that would mean TWO UI's to maintain, unless you propose we are all forced onto a child-frien...

Re: Feature request: Children Friendly/Kiosk/Party-Mode Menu

built my MiSTer inside the most inviting form I could imagine and loaded it with literally thousands of games, but it still doesn't hold a candle to the PS4 or Switch because to anyone born after 2000 a text-only menu is as foreign an interface as a rotary telephone. I don't expect my kids to sit down and go through name after meaningless name unt...

Re: Feature request: Children Friendly/Kiosk/Party-Mode Menu

Perhaps you should teach your children how to use a Mister, rather than demand it be made simpler ? Or, buy a Pi - that has what you are asking. And no, we don't want a Nintendo, or Apple-like product. This is, after all, a nerd's homebrew type product, not a full-on commercial product. It shows you don't have kids. Kids mess around with everythin...

I made a similar request not too long ago: https://misterfpga.org/viewtopic.php?f=29&t=2699 It would be an amazing thing to have and be able to just simply enable without having to modify the code ourselves. We're not all programmers. - Options/settings shouldn't be anywhere near the same menu page as the act of choosing games to launch or swit...

Also I noticed on Git that another game which has many games in one, Nintendo World Championships, was reported to also boots directly into one of the games instead of showing the intro/title screen:

Re: Action 52 not supported?

I'm not even that picky. I'm just looking for the game to boot correctly. I mean it works fine in software emulators. It certainly points to the MiSTer core doing something wrong. Hey maybe it'll even benefit other games. Software emulation doesn't necessarily go for 100% accuracy or function the same as real hardware. But that's fine. That's how ...

Re: Action 52 not supported?

The whole point of an FPGA solution is 100% total accuracy. So yes, even if the game is broken in so many different ways, this is the exact experience that I'm looking for. If you're looking for 100% accuracy, you may want to try original hardware. Even though FPGA cores may be extremely accurate, looking for 100% may not be possible. I'm not even...

Re: Action 52 not supported?

Or, you know, MiSTer could support the single file version as intended. Action 52 did not work properly on real hardware. Some games just wouldn't load, some levels wouldn't load, and other games would crash the NES. There's not really a benefit of having the original one ROM other than trying to create the exact accurate experience of a bunch of ...

Action 52 not supported?

I know, why would anyone want to play this? But as a curiosity, it has its merits. However it doesn't seem to work on MiSTer? Instead of booting normally with the introduction and title screen, it boots directly into one of the 52 games available (Billy Bob). Since there's no way back to the main menu from the game itself, you cannot access any of ...

Don't get me wrong, I would love it to just autosave and work perfectly :P One issue with the backup concept is you only find out that a save is corrupted when it reloads, and by the time you find that out it'll probably have autosaved over the good backup!!
