Re: Acorn 28-AKF17 CRT Advice Sought

The Acorn AKF17 is an Archimedes 15hz Monitor, it was built for the first A3000 series (not the later A3010/A3020 etc..), and it's output was 15hz - Heck, you can even use it on a regular CRT TV. The Archimedes core has 15hz issues, and has never been fixed properly for a 15hz CRT. Ah, thank you. To be honest I’d probably still use the Archimedes ...

Re: Acorn 28-AKF17 CRT Advice Sought

Yeah, finding a working video_mode for the AO486 core on this monitor is proving to be a challenge, not helped by the fact that video_mode lines are an area where I am utterly clueless. Plus I have to keep in mind that this monitor is far from VGA spec (I think?) Suspect I may be better off sourcing a decent 'proper' multi sync SVGA CRT - although ...

Re: Acorn 28-AKF17 CRT Advice Sought

I GOT IT WORKING! And of course I get it working the morning after I order the cable, but that's fine because my working cable is two cables and two adaptors. There are more weak-points than individual components! Basically I found I had an early Archimedes monitor cable (9-pin D male<->female) so I thought I've give it a try. So my cable is: MiSTe...

Re: Acorn 28-AKF17 CRT Advice Sought

Well, the wee adapter dongle I bought also didn’t work. Ho hum. I’ve ordered one of the cables suggested by mapf (don’t worry, won’t blame you if it also doesn’t work 🙂) It occurs to me that I don’t know for sure the monitor isn’t faulty - I have nothing I know of that I can plug it in to, or at least nothing working. We’ll see. Should be here late...

Re: Acorn 28-AKF17 CRT Advice Sought

Many thanks for the input - I don't have a multimeter sadly, so I'm having to resort to pot luck on pre-made cables. I've got a couple arriving over the next few days, so I'll see how it goes from there. Are there any other mister.ini settings that you would advise checking? For instance, using 'vga_mode=rgb' gives me garbage, but 'vga_mode=svideo'...

Re: Acorn 28-AKF17 CRT Advice Sought

From the Stardot link above I read this:

Note that the AKF-17 doesn't support a Vsync - it expects a composite sync input on pin7!

Does that mean that composite_sync needs to be set to 1? I've tried setting that, but there with no obvious change.

Re: Acorn 28-AKF17 CRT Advice Sought

Hi, the monitor is a 15KHz RGB(analog) monitor, so it will work with MiSTer. You need to make sure that your adapters connect the right pins. You can find pinouts here: https://stardot.org.uk/forums/viewtopic.php?t=10956 Also, you want vga_mode=rgb in your ini file. Thanks - I've set vga_mode back to rgb, but it results in a completely distorted d...

Acorn 28-AKF17 CRT Advice Sought

Morning all. I found I had an Acorn 28-AFK17 monitor that I'd forgotten about, and I'm keen to use it with MiSTer. I have the analogue board, so I have a VGA port to use. Here is a picture of the back: 9e54YB8.jpg I'm utterly clueless about the mister.ini's CRT settings, so I was wondering if someone could suggest some good starting values? I've bo...

Re: DE10-Nano not detecting RAM. Any way to fix?

Do you have a second RAM module you can try, just to help establish where the problem lies?

Edit: just seen your other thread where you've done this but it didn't work. Hopefully someone can suggest something to try with the DE-10 itself.

Re: Trying yet again to revive comatose DE10-Nano

This is bizarre (to me). You get video output with other bootable OSs, just not MiSTer, yes? If so, to me that suggests a video configuration issue (although I freely admit to not being any sort of expert).

Anything else plugged into the DE-10? RAM module, analogue board, etc?

Re: Trying yet again to revive comatose DE10-Nano

No trouble copying MiSTer_example.ini to MiSTer.ini and trying a few video_mode settings, but it wasn't that. And yet weirdly it feels like that's what it is - you get a display when you run the initial MiSTer install and it's resizing the card, so the HDMI port seems good. And you can ssh to it, so it is running. Do you have another display and/or...

Re: Trying yet again to revive comatose DE10-Nano

What display device are you using? I had a similar issue when I intially tried using a monitor with a lower resolution than the MiSTer was expecting. The way I fixed it was to ssh over to the MiSTer (which I think you can do?) and alter mister.ini to have video_mode=1 which sets it to 1024x768 60Hz mode. You could also try values of 5 (800x600 60Hz...

Re: Arcade Joystick Recommendations?

Many thanks for the suggestions - I should have mentioned it would be primarily for old arcade games (Galaga, Joust etc). I use a PS4 Bluetooth joystick for other stuff. The HORI Mini looks interesting, but at under 4" square (if the Amazon details are to be believed) it's perhaps a bit too small. Sadly, making anything myself is out of the qu...

Arcade Joystick Recommendations?

Morning all - I'm looking for a recommendation for an arcade stick. I've got the one below (the ten-button one on the left) but it's a bit big. I'd ideally like a compact version of it, USB for preference. Black or chrome would be ideal. So far my Google-fu is failing me.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

Re: Archie Core - ArcElite Controls

Afaik Hybrid Elite does not support a joystick. The Arcs did not have native joystick ports. You can choose between mouse (called “Maus” in the game) or keyboard. To use keyboard I believe you need to turn off mouse controls in the configuration menu from the riscos desktop. Note that speed is controlled with the middle and right mouse buttons. Go...

Battlezone and Star Castle for me.

Back in the day I think I could qualify for being 'expert' on Battlezone, and I once made one 10p game last over three hours and only left because we had places to be!

Nowadays I'd probably get wiped out instantly :)

Re: All Was Going Well but Then I Updated All

I think that's only for existing files. If you have the status bar enabled, in the lower right corner, just left of "UTF-8" (the default encoding), it will say either "Windows(CRLF)" or "Unix(LF)". For a new file, it will be "Windows(CRLF)", and I haven't found any way to change it. As far as I can tell, you...

Re: Pre-built Recommendations UK

Just as an FYI for comparison, but I've been running with just 32MB since I bought mine, and I've never (knowingly) run into an issue with the cores I tend to use (BBC Micro/Acorn Archimedes/Amiga/Atari ST/TRS-80 Model 1/Sega Megadrive/Sony Playstation 1), so 128MB will almost certainly be absolutely fine, apart from potentially the Saturn core as ...

Re: Pre-built Recommendations UK

The Multisystem is a pretty good option if you don't want to assemble a regular Mister stack. They basically put all the components on a single board. You screw that board into the case, plug the DE-10 (purchased separately) into the board, put the top on, add power and peripherals, and off you go. Their main board is a little more expensive than ...

The Airports are really meant to be on all the time, and don't suck down much power, so you could bypass the power switch with that one device if you want fast booting back. True, but it's more of a theoretical downside than an actual problem for me. I've got the MiSTer, the monitor and the Airport all plugged into a strip with a single power swit...

Re: WiFi Dongle Recommendations?

Quick (and probably final) update: I went the AirPort Express route and, unsurprisingly, it worked like a charm. The unit itself is now firmly velcro'd to the back of the monitor, the ethernet cable is tied down in a fairly tidy way, and performance is excellent. I suspect I'll revisit this next year and get a new USB dongle as I'm not thrilled at ...
