Re: LG OLED C9 MiSTer FPGA 1440p (6x) Help

I meant MiSTer developer laziness, maybe that's where we got confused :)

My point was that I don't think the MiSTer has enough bandwidth to supply 2560×1440. And yes, I'm sure they could have backported that from the CX to the C9, but TV manufacturers rarely care about older models once there's a new one for sale.

Re: Let’s Make Amiga CD32 Support Happen (Update: It Works!)

Wanted to start help testing this, but after getting the nightly main build + the nightly Amiga build, installing IDEFix97 and trying to mount a variety of CD formats, I can't get anything to show up.

If anyone knows how it's supposed to work (I know it's still a work in progress :), I'm all ears.

Re: LG OLED C9 MiSTer FPGA 1440p (6x) Help

If I were to take a guess, there is an actual technical reason — not developer laziness ;) MiSTer's current max resolution is 2048×1536 = 3,145,728 pixels, also pushing the DE-10 nano further than it is intended to go, if I remember correctly. 2560×1440 is quite a bit more bandwidth at 3,686,400 pixels. (While 1920×1440 is 2,764,800 pixels, well be...

Re: LG OLED C9 MiSTer FPGA 1440p (6x) Help

I have the B9 (which has a slower CPU, but I think it has the same scaler), and it does not support 1440p. I think they started supporting 1440p with the next generation, the CX?

Let me know if you need help testing an RBF and/or Main build.

Will it support CHD, like the other CD cores?

Re: AmigaVision (MegaAGS) 2023.07.17 Released with Improved Launcher Reliability

On the AmigaVision webpage, it says to always run in 40:27 aspect ratio. But in the readme supplied with AmigaVision, it say to manually switch the aspect ratio setting depending on PAL 4x, PAL 5x, PAL 6x, etc. for each game. Which is correct? For the last two or three releases, 40:27 is always the correct AR setting. The image fed to the scaler w...

Thanks. That dac (2nd link) seems to be usb powered. Would the Mister be able to power it via usb? That would be ideal. I have a Meanwell 4A (I think) power supply if that is relevant.

Yes, 4A should be plenty as long as you don't have a lot of other power-hungry devices connected via USB (e.g. spinning hard drives).

Re: What Is the Minimum Number of Buttons Needed for Most Arcade Cores?

I have quite enjoyed my RetroRadionics “ArcadeR” joystick, in the style of Competition Pro and Zipstik, it uses standard arcade parts (which means you can replace the buttons, the stick, and the gates with standard arcade parts quite easily, whether you’re a Seimitsu or Sanwa person — personally I like both for different uses). It has 4 buttons on ...

A500 Mini is FAT32, so the individual file limit is 4GB. It would use the same slimmed-down configuration as the Pocket does.

Any A500 Mini Owners Want to Help Test Amigavision?

Apologies for going slightly off-topic, but I’m guessing that there are some MiSTer users out there that also own an A500 Mini. We are considering adding support for the A500 Mini to the AmigaVision you know and love. It is not the most powerful emulation device, and obviously will involve some trade-offs, but we still think it deserves the very be...

Re: Let’s Make Amiga CD32 Support Happen (Update: It Works!)

It doesn’t play the CDDA audio though, does it? That’s the point of this improvement — pretty much all CD32 games work on the A1200 in some form (usually they have AGA versions), but they are missing the CD audio.

Re: 9.7" iPad Retina Screen Perfect for MiSTer, $60 Fully Assembled 😄

Not that I’m aware of. There could theoretically be one that was based on the 12.9 inch iPad display, but I don’t think anyone has made a driver board for that one.

There are probably other sizes of mini-monitors available, but the great thing about this display is its color quality and its extremely fast response rate.

Re: Let’s Make Amiga CD32 Support Happen (Update: It Works!)

Indeed, I’m not saying it will be easy, just that there’s a base to start from, and that we don’t necessarily need a full CD32 core to make most games work.

It’s still going to be a non-trivial amount of work to make it happen, of course.

Let’s Make Amiga CD32 Support Happen (Update: It Works!)

After purchasing the A500 Mini console the other day (it was on sale, it’s adorable, and runs CD32 games), I was reminded that we still don’t have CD32 compatibility in the Amiga (Minimig) core, and that there are quite a few games on that platform that should be preserved and made accessible on the MiSTer. For context, the Amiga CD32 is essentiall...

Re: Vigilante - weird screen size / location behaviour

Because most arcade games output slightly different frequencies, and your CRT may have issues locking on to some of them. When you turn the CRT off and on again while keeping the signal active, it could end up syncing to a different part of the image than it would if it was already turned on when the initial signal from the game reached it. (Note: ...

Re: Can't Upgrade Linux

The Linux part isn’t on your USB device for obvious reasons, and I assume (never having used USB drives with the MiSTer myself) that the update/download/unpack/replace also happens on the SD card. I’d start with checking how much free space you have on the SD card, and also use a tool that can show you where the space is going, maybe you have some ...

Indeed, we want to spend some time making the emulator experience a bit better soon. The included FS-UAE config file right now is just what we are using for casual testin...

Re: Pink/Magenta on some (not all) shadow masks

Is there any downside to running in 720p? Just that shadow masks don't look particularly great in lower resolutions, and you won't get the 5× scaling in AmigaVision. So I'd recommend using 1080p without shadow masks in this case, and also play around a bit with the scaler settings in your TV (Overscan/"Just Scan" settings, etc) to see if...

Re: Pink/Magenta on some (not all) shadow masks

Make sure the TV is not using the wrong overscan/zoom setting, it should be what LG calls “Just Scan”. It’s possible that zoom + scaling of the shadow masks would produce weird artifacts. (This is a total speculation on our part, but worth checking)
