Re: WiFi Dongle Recommendations?
Many thanks for all the input, and my apologies for not getting back sooner - it's been one of those weeks. I'd prefer to go the USB dongle route if possible - a wired connection isn't possible [easily] in the rooms in which it's used. However, it occurs to me that I've got a couple of old Airport Express units (hockey puck sized WiFi routers/exten...

Re: WiFi Dongle Recommendations?
i have this one with different setups and works great since day one. fast and reliable: https://misterfpga.co.uk/product/mister-fpga-wifi-adapter/ Actually, looking at it I think that's the one I've got! And yes, by-and-large it's fine, but I find that if I move my MiSTer from the den (where the WiFi basestation is) to the front room (down and acr...

WiFi Dongle Recommendations?
Morning all - my apologies if this is the wrong forum! I'm after recommendations for WiFi USB dongles - preferably ones with external aerials. My current USB WiFi dongle works, but as it doesn't have external antenna the range is rather poor - it's fine in the room with the basestation, not so fine a few walls away. As I'm doing the whole 'store mo...

Now you just have that irritating four day wait while it goes on a bit of a world tourLasseKongo wrote: ↑Wed Oct 26, 2022 11:26 am Just an update, placed an order with Terasic yesterday, and the package is already picked up by Fedex.
Clearly seems like Terasic is keeping a stash of boards that the don´t send to the large distributors.

Re: DE10 Nano from Mouser, Anyone Got One Recently?
I also had one on order from Mouser, and the delivery time shipped to effectively a year. I ended up buying direct. Yes, it ended up costing more (shipping and UK Customs) but I got it the same week and ultimately I'm glad I went that route. If you can afford it, it's worth doing (IMHO). Good to know that Terasic actually ships boards, I was a lit...

Also considering the option of ordering directly from Terasic, but with shipping and customs fees it will be like €70 more expensive. My own - very simple, nothing very special, but I like it.
Sadly the Beeb keyboard isn't used - it's just there for decoration. Actual keyboard is a Keychron K2.

BBC Micro - I'll add my voice to the 'SSD support' (although if we could keep MMB as well that would be nice).
But my biggest issue with the official core is that the rightmost scanline seems to be being missed. Clearly visible with Starship Command:

Re: No Video Output C16 & C64 Cores
Probably not this (I may be badly misremembering stuff), but it might be worth reseating the RAM module, assuming you have one. I've got it in my head that the C64 core didn't work properly without the RAM. Don't recall it causing a freeze though. Hadn't tried Archie at that point.

Re: MiSTer Favorites - Menu Shortcuts for Your Cores and Games
This is a very cool idea! I wonder if there could be functionality added to this to "resume last played game" which would load your last core with your last rom? I don't know if it would work (no harm in trying!) but you could try altering these in MiSTer.ini : ; lastcore - Autoboot the last loaded core (corename autosaved in CONFIG/last...

Re: MiSTer Favorites - Menu Shortcuts for Your Cores and Games
I like it - definitely better than the rather ugly hack I knocked up
Only thing I think mine does (arguably) better is it allows you to use wildcards, so you don't have to specify a precise filename (which will change if the core gets updated). Mine only does .rbl files though.

I bought a Keychron K2:
Nicely clacky, 75% keyboard (they do full-size ones), can run either wired or wireless and comes with both Mac and PC keycaps. Not strictly retro, but retro-ish enough for me.

Interesting - when I went looking for it it would only display files with 'bios' in the name, but I guess if it's in the games folder it might behave differently. I'll have a play when I next get chance.

Try renaming it to ‘BIOS.ROM’ - I think the core is looking for files with ‘bios’ in the name.

Re: Possible BBC Micro core graphics issue
Seems a bit of a shame to have so many unnoficial BBC cores out there at the moment with the official one still not supporting SSD (I am aware of the recent build that has been worked on by alanswx which has support for SSD images but just on the Master, but he mentioned there are still timing issues with that one). Need to get these guys together...

Re: Possible BBC Micro core graphics issue
The lushprojects core that you mention GreyAreaUK does indeed support SSD images for both the BBC B and BBC Master. I've been using it almost daily since his latest release (link in the forum post you mention). It also has support for MMFSv1 and MMFSv2 and sideways RAM. I'm just a user, not a developer and I know lushprojects has built on the grea...

Re: Possible BBC Micro core graphics issue
Just a quick update to this: looks like someone over on the stardot forums also saw this issue, and has come up with an experimental fix for it (although their build doesn't support individual SSD images (EDIT: As pointed out below this is incorrect - it does indeed support them)): https://stardot.org.uk/forums/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=24343&sta...

Re: BBC Micro and secondary SD card
It does not work for me, I have tried it with couple of text adventures. Can you give some working examples I could try and replicate? EDIT: Scratch that, I've tried some other games, also saving BASIC program to disk and it does actually work. Guess I was just unlucky with the games I've tried. Maybe they need separate save disks, will have to lo...

'Unofficial' is perhaps the wrong term, but this one: https://misterfpga.org/download/file.php?id=4874 - 'BBCMicro_20220123.rbf' To be clear, everything is working happily now (well, apart from the slight graphics issue but that's another matter entirely!) Thanks for sharing that version. I just checked; that version supports read/write for SSD/DS...

Re: BBC Micro and secondary SD card
When I tried writing to a blank disk in the BEEB.MMB file on the primary slot I got a disk error. When I tried using the secondary card slot it worked fine. This was on the official BBC Micro core - I haven't yet tried it with the the version that supports individual disk images. So the beeb.mmb renamed to boot.vhd on the primary card in the bbcmi...

Re: Mac Plus update
On a slightly different tangent, does anyone know if it's possible to get networking going? Might be interesting to set up an Appletalk server on my network using something like RetroNAS.
The Wiki doesn't mention networking at all, so I'm assuming it's still too early for that.

Re: BBC Micro and secondary SD card
...aaaaaand once again following up to my own question: just tried with another, smaller (2GB) card that I formated FAT (not FAT32), copied the BEEB.MMB file over and it works. So I suppose my question would be, is the issue with the FAT32 aspect or the card size aspect? The original card was 16GB. You can just put the beeb.mmb as boot.vhd on the ...
