Re: Any love for the QL?

I would try the core with a standard Spanish ROM and see if it works.... Good luck :) Sadly, it doesn't. I mean, it works, but it hangs when I select a microdrive and run dir mdv1_. And selecting a .WIN file does not work (lack of driver, I suppose). When I do dir win_ it says "not found". I've made .WIN files work with the Minerva ROM s...

Re: Any love for the QL?

Thanks! I'm about to try right now. I have it already working on the "official" MiSTer core, sorry if I wasn't very specific about that. It's just that anything I do is lost forever. If it needs a Minerva ROM to use the win_ device, and a Spanish ROM to run the program, it looks like unless I can find a Spanish Minerva ROM (that I don't t...

Maybe try with 4DOS. Its command history handling is epic.

Re: Any love for the QL?

Hi, Go to https://www.kilgus.net/ql/mister/ for Marcel Kilgus' QL core for Mister. It has a Gold Card implementation with accelerated CPU, and can support .win files and a special version of SMSQ/E. You have to boot into Minerva, and then LRESPR the SMSQ/E from your boot file. After a bit of head scratching. I managed to make a single boot file th...

Any Love for the QL? [Solved]

I can launch several Psion programs and everything, but from time to time I get keyboard issues, to the point that I sometimes can't type anything at all. There's also no permanent storage. Any work I do is lost. Could this core get a bit more love, to solve the keyboard and lack of storage issues? At least an option to save the microdrive back to ...

Re: Breakthrough for the ao486 core announced - Cache

Updating the OS didn't help. I'm now on OS v200618 and main v200814 and the same is still happening. After more digging, I've realized that Main is terminating (crashing, most likely). That explains the symptoms. Before executing ao486: /root# pidof MiSTer 1208 /root# After executing ao486: /root# pidof MiSTer /root# As I noted in an edit to the pr...

Re: Breakthrough for the ao486 core announced - Cache

I need help. I've updated Main and the ao486 core to try the new features, but it doesn't work at all for me: - The monitor goes to sleep mode. - On the MiSTer, all three LEDs go off and the Reset (or any other) button does nothing. Pressing Ctrl+Shift+Alt+AltGr does nothing either. - I can however still access the MiSTer via SSH, so I can type in ...

Re: If it's not limited to existing systems, how far can it go?

But you can build something self contained, like this "demoscene"-style production based on a custom system made in an FPGA: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h42neZVvoMY Thanks, that's pretty awesome! It does indeed explore the limits of what can be accomplished. "CPU: 16-BIT, 63 MHZ", "10 DSP-LIKE SHADER CORES". It do...

Re: Where's the Speccy love?

I agree it would be nice if the option to reset was available regardless of whether you changed the machine type, but I'd call that a usability design flaw, not a bug.

If it's not limited to existing systems, how far can it go?

Watching the powerful systems that the DE-10 Nano is able to emulate, I keep wondering... What if it was not bound to emulating a pre-existing system, and instead a brand new design was started from scratch? How powerful can it get, with the CPU and the video? Would the CPU be RISC or CISC type? Would it be better to beef up the CPU, and make it as...

Re: Does each core have a history.txt or changelog viewable somewhere?

For example, take a look at the recent update to the NES core: :? "- Many fixes from Kitrinx" Good to hear about many changes, but what about that one annoying bug that you've been waiting to get fixed? You won't know if it has been, without downloading the .rbf. It's a reasonable question, but unfortunately the answer is not always avai...

Re: What does MiSTer stand for? Is it an acronym?

I always thought that "MiSTer" was the comparative form of "MiST", i.e. "more than MiST" because it ran on better hardware and had more features. It's interesting to know that the actual origin of the suffix was Terasic.

Re: X68000 beta - stopped working all of a sudden

... Awesome, thanks! The only thing wrong was the format byte, which had to be 20h (meaning 2HD). Once that was fixed the images began working! The converter is here, works with Python 2 and 3: http://www.formauri.es/personal/pgimeno/pastes/dim2d88.py It's not too user-friendly when it comes to error reporting. Usage is: python dim2d88.py <input f...

Re: X68000 beta - stopped working all of a sudden

Can anyone please share a .D88 disk image that is working (a legal one, please)? I have some .DIM disk image files and since I'm on Linux, I can't use the converter that was posted upthread, so I made my own based on this specification: http://www.z88dk.org/tools/x1/XBrowser_User_Guide.pdf ; however, it's not working and I would like to have a refe...

Re: PC105 keyboard - wrong scancode

I was obviously referring to countries which have their own keyboard layout. That's besides the point, though. The point is that 105-key keyboard users can now use the extra key normally, so thanks! Japanese 109-key keyboards will probably still have keys that don't work, but I'll leave that up to someone who is familiar with those keyboards and th...

Re: PC105 keyboard - wrong scancode

Thank you very much for doing that. I've made a program in Python that patches the binary, so I could test it, and it works. import sys def main(): d = open(sys.argv[1], 'rb').read() idx = d.find(b'\x72\0\0\0\x7a\0\0\0\x70\0\0\0\x71\0\0\0\xff\0\0\0\xff\0\0\0') if ~idx: b = bytearray(d)[idx+24] if b == 0x61: print("Already patched! Nothing done...

Re: PC105 keyboard - wrong scancode

This is not what can be easily fixed unlike it looks so.. I think you must be misunderstanding something here. The scancodes are the same in any international keyboard as in a US keyboard. However, the US keyboard is a 101-104 key type. but many international keyboards are 102-105 key types. They have one more key. The new key can't be typed in a ...

Re: PC105 keyboard - wrong scancode

I'm not 100% sure but I believe the issue might be here: https://github.com/MiSTer-devel/Main_MiSTer/blob/master/input.cpp#L387 These appear to be Scan Code Set 2 codes; see www.quadibloc.com/comp/scan.htm for a quite thorough reference of them. If that's indeed the origin of the keys that ao486 receives, as I suspect, this patch might work: diff -...

PC105 keyboard - wrong scancode

In a Spanish keyboard (105 keys), the key to type < and > does not work. In MiSTer, this key produces scancode 62h, which I don't think is bound to any character. In DOSbox, it produces scancode 56h which correctly produces the < character (and the > character with shift). That scancode precedes F11 (57h) and F12 (58h). I don't know if this is an i...
