Re: Terasic and Intel Deliver Cutting-Edge Platform for Intel Pathfinder for RISC-V
I apologize for my ignorance, but how much more powerful would this platform be compared to the MiSTer? It seems to only have 4,000 more LEs. Also, is it true that there's no HDMI? I'm not well versed on what makes a good FPGA gaming platform so what are your guy's thoughts?

Re: N64 Core Possibility? (Update! Robert Is Working On This Core!)
There is about zero chance a board at the DE-10's price point will support N64 in decades. The clocks just aren't there. Decades is an absurdly hyperbolic take. The FPGA industry is growing by leaps and bounds because of machine learning. To think that Moore’s Law applies to everything but FPGAs is beyond silly. Robert Piep mentioned it may be jus...

Re: N64 Core Possibility? (Update! Robert Is Working On This Core!)
I think we will get Saturn. I'm no dev, but apparently the Saturn is on par with the PSX in terms of its specs. The difference is there are so many custom chips that it'll take a lot more time to create a Saturn core. Also consider that the PSX is taking up on the whole roughly 92% of the FPGA logic gates. However, about 30% of that is due to the s...

Re: Games Consoles Not On MiSTer And Their Viability (A Discussion)
Forgive me for making it sound trivial, but I'm a fan of the concept of low-hanging fruit. The lowest hanging fruit in terms of console cores are the consolized PC cores. For example, we have the Atari 5200 which is essentially a repurposed Atari 800. Recently we got the Tomy Tutor which can load Tomy Pyuuta Jr. games. The Atari 800 core can also l...

Thanks for the updated mappers @paulbnl! They work brilliantly. Is it possible to make them autoload per game? Would you have to change the extension name or could it be done automatically via the core if implemented?

If you use update all and enable the bios getter, then it'll get you the proper bios.Swainy wrote: ↑Mon Aug 15, 2022 8:23 pm I can’t seem to get this core working.
Grabbed the bios file from this site: http://www.madrigaldesign.it/creativemu/roms.php
Plus some games, renamed the bios to boot0.rom but I’m just getting a multi coloured screen via hdmi & a blank screen on my CRT.

Re: N64 Core Possibility? (Update! Robert Is Working On This Core!)
It’s an interesting question. I’m pretty sure Terasic is well aware of the MiSTer. If I had to guess, the majority of their sales comes from the MiSTer community. I think it all boils down to how profitable each DE10-Nano is for Terasic. If they make a good profit per unit, then of course they’d scale up and eventually release a successor. If that...

Re: The RetroZord Adapter
This looks like an awesome project @sonik! Personally speaking, I'm interested in a SNAC solution as long as it has 2 player support. That'd be the best. Also, I have a recommendation, if feasible. Since it's possible to play the 2600 console using a Sega Genesis pad, because they use the same pin configuration, is it possible to get Atari 2600 con...

Re: Good "beginner" retro computer to implement on FPGA?
I'm not a PC gaming guy so I can't give you good advice regarding PC cores. However, if you want a low-hanging fruit to get your feet wet, you could attempt to work on the Amiga/Minimig core and bring about CD32/CDTV support. Those are consolized version of those computers. The Minimig core is missing native bin/cue support and CHD support so that'...

Re: Sega Saturn Core in Development
Let's pump the brakes on having Saturn nightlies. Forget the whole Ukraine situation for a sec, which is it's own unique set of obstacles, and realize that the PSX core is the one core where we'll get stable nightlies because that's how Robert likes to develop. srg320 only likes to release things in a nearly finished state so it's unfair to copy an...

Absolutely marvelous work @Ashfall! This is extremely impressive and should be the default pack for Game & Watch since it covers all SM510 games and are the best versions of the games imo. Re: N64 Core Possibility? (Update! Robert Is Working On This Core!)
It's always been my theory that at least in North America, the public will only accept 3 consoles and anything beyond that will get pushed out, which is what happened to Sega. The other 3 console manufacturers simply had way higher budgets for game development and marketing, more third-party developers and most importantly, more consumer confidence...

I think this is a brilliant idea! Always wanted a MiSTer handheld, yet the issue with a MiSTer handheld for me is that there's no uniform control scheme that suits every game type. Whereas this would be amazing as a tabletop console that you can bring with you anywhere and plug whatever controller you want into it. Here's my personal wishlist for a...

Btw, is it possible to port the code of the special audio to the existing Game Boy core? I don't care as much about the borders personally, but the SGB audio is the only thing that I feel is missing from the standard Game Boy co...

Philips Videopac+ G7400
The Odyssey 2 core has made a lot of strides over the past couple of years. However, it can't play the Videopac+ G7400 games. The G7400 was a revision of the Videopac that was backwards compatible with all Videopac software and offered grahically-superior versions of Videopac games as well as a few exclusive games such as Trans American Rally+ (you...

Been playing around with the core and made some interesting discoveries. For non-ECS games, there seems to be some garbled graphics during transition screens. Also, it appears that these games don't work when the ECS is turned on in the core: -Centipede -Congo Bongo -Dig Dug -Pac-Man I haven't tested out the ECS games yet. It seems best practice to...

Re: N64 Core Possibility? (Update! Robert Is Working On This Core!)
I stand by my belief that the N64 and Neo Geo AES are the 2 consoles with the highest quality library. Sure there are stinkers like Superman 64 and Carmageddon 64, but overall the N64 has a stellar lineup. It's just a very small lineup in comparison to the PS1 and even the Saturn if you include all the Japanese titles. Btw, no one should have to ju...

Re: N64 Core Possibility? (Update! Robert Is Working On This Core!)
As someone who grew up with the N64 and got one when I was 6, it was mindblowing the jump between the SNES entries in series and the N64 entries. Super Mario 64, Ocarina of Time, Mario Kart 64, F-Zero X were such huge leaps forward for their respective genres. Looking back in hindsight, it's easy to say the graphics suck and the controller is trash...

Re: N64 Core Possibility? (Update! Robert Is Working On This Core!)
This is true. N64 is the undisputed console king of local multiplayer. If you grew up with a couple brothers playing Smash, Mario Party, GoldenEye, Conker, Perfect Dark etc. back in the day, nothing else compares to that amount of fun. The closest local multiplayer experience that captures the fun of the N64 is Guitar Hero/Rock Band.

Re: N64 Core Possibility? (Update! Robert Is Working On This Core!)
It's completely fine to dislike the N64. Everyone's entitled to their own opinion. But to say it "doesn't have any games" is pretty ludicrous. N64's library is very polarizing because it all comes down to the genres you like. If you like RPGs and fighting games, you're kinda out of luck on the N64 outside of Smash and Paper Mario. However...

Re: N64 Core Possibility? (Update! Robert Is Working On This Core!)
I want N64 not only because it's one of my favorite consoles, but it's the last console that feels "necessary" for MiSTer for lack of a better term. If we can do Saturn, and PSX in FPGA, it feels weird to not have N64 since it'd round out the entire generation. Obviously, getting an FPGA board that could run N64 also means getting a board...

It might be near time for Saturn core to get its own subforum here. :) Anyone who's tested the beta, could you mention how it handles save files? For example, PSX core creates one save file (virtual memory card) per ROM folder. Wondering if Saturn core is similar or works another way. I second this. Saturn should have it's own subforum as well as ...
