Re: BBC Master coprocessor confusion

Well now that's curious...Alan's build sort of works. I got a one-disk version with all 4 versions of BBC Elite from Ian Bell's site (attached), which refers to the coprocessor version as the '6502 Second Processor Elite Executive Version'. It successfully boots, but upon selecting the copro version, I get "Sorry, this version requires a 6502 ...

BBC Master coprocessor confusion

Please note: This is coming from a US-based user who has never seen, nor known anyone personally who has ever seen a BBC Micro or Master in their lives and has absolutely no concept whatsoever what they are doing, particularly with MMB. That being said, in my quest to play the 'ultimate' version of Elite (which by all accounts is, indeed, the BBC M...

Re: Atari 7800 / 2600

Really? When I assign difficulty switches to gamepad buttons, my OSD reflects the change every time I push it, even when playing 2600 games (in the 7800 core - the 2600-dedicated core is deprecated and not what's being discussed).

Re: NTP Not Updating Automatically

Still doesn't explain how so many of us *did* update the Linux version (which is full, by the way, not partial, so it wouldn't matter if you started with Mr. Fusion or not) and our clock still works as expected.

Re: Atari 2600

Is it still not possible to use keyboard for switches and joystick for input? (Ideally, I'd like to use a legitimate 7800 controller, but that'd be difficult for some 2600 games that used the switches as input.) This would be great. Select and start are already mapped to F1 and F2. It would be great to have Left A/B, Right A/B and the Colour/BW sw...

Re: Atari 7800 / 2600

Has anyone else noticed a strange white spot ahead of your car in 2600 Enduro? It doesn't show up on snow or at night, but during daytime driving it's maybe 2-3 carlengths ahead of your car and 'follows' it left to right. I've adjusted every setting and filter I can find and can't get rid of it...it's very odd. EDIT: Scratch that. Hard reset MiSTe...

Re: SCUMMVM

@Neocaron I don't think that will be viable as the filters/masks are dependent on the MiSTer framework, which (ironically) isn't used at all in ScummVM being a pure Linux ARM application. There's also barely enough CPU headroom for ScummVM as-is, adding video post-processing to it is likely to make it too slow to be usable.

Re: Terasic DE10 Nano Price Increase

The costs of the parts (at wholesale - and given they are both manufacturer and supplier, that matters and why there IS NO SUBSIDY) are *not* greater than the price of the board, and Intel _does_ make a (smaller) profit off every board sold...it's simply priced for the target audience. Not very difficult to understand.

The Japanese release is the original release for the vast majority of arcade games.

They are also usually exclusively in Japanese.

See the problem?

Both the 64 and 128 could definitely handle 2400 baud, at least with an Aprotek Minimodem.

Did I see...tape? :)

Questions (since I can't look at the core right now):

- Is this hardware tape deck attach or virtual via WAV?
- Either way, does it support writing?

So cool! This is one of those systems that really NEEDS tape support, since it was how so very many of us got our start!

Re: Atari 2600

In 10-20 years, anyone still caring about 2600 gaming will be academic researchers and masochists. LOL Like many 'retro' platforms, its value lies largely (if not entirely) in nostalgia of those who enjoyed it when it was current/modern. I wish it were otherwise, but my kids' kids are not going to be playing 2600 games.

Unless the 'long run' means 'after MiSTer is abandoned as a platform', it will still apply...and afterwards it won't matter.

The challenge is dual maintenance and the inevitable disconnect that will occur - for example, sound improvements in one SHOULD carry over to the other, but likely won't with separate cores.

Pong is an analog game represented digitally on MiSTer. One does not preclude the other. Pong is not analog, it just has a primitive transistor-transistor logic design lacking integrated circuits instead of using a microprocessor like many post-1975 arcade games. In fact Nolan Bushnell used to falsely claim back in the day that Magnavox Odyssey wa...
