Re: CRT Wallpaper Issue When Using HDMI

To get wallpapers, you have to use the scaler. The above line makes the scaler do 15khz (240pish) which is a suitable resolution for your CRT, and outputs it over the analog out. But the scaler can only do one resolution at a time, so your HDMI TV won't show anything unless it can somehow handle 240p. The alternate inis are one way around this, you...

Re: Best All-Round Controller

Kind of shocked (hah) how many people can put up with mid d-pads for the era most Mister cores are set in. The SN30s are pretty good for that, my personal favorite is the M30, retro-fighters or hori stuff can be pretty good if you want analog and a decent d-pad. But official Sony controllers would be way near the bottom of the list for me, outside ...

Re: vscale_mode=5 and Aspect Ratio

Thank you for your reply But whats wrong with Monitor scaling? Typically its extremely simple, poor, and offers zero options. Mister offers a huge variety of interpolation options if you need it, you will usually get better quality and control relying on it for scaling. Since this is a 1920x1200 monitor that is well within Mister's capabilities to...

Re: vscale_mode=5 and Aspect Ratio

I kind of don't think you want to use vscale_mode=5, since that changes the actual output resolution. That's really more suitable for 4K TVs or CRTs. It seems like you always want to output 1920x1200 to avoid monitor scaling. If you just want horizontal integer scaling, mosts cores now have it implemented as HV integer -/+. Just use vscale_mode=0 o...

Re: GBA Core and BVM Question

Replace vga_scaler=1 with direct_video=0. You need to turn OFF direct video to use custom resolutions.

That means you also might need to greatly increase the horizontal resolution to satisfy HDMI requirements for your adapter. (use aspect ratio = full to get something usable, albeit imperfect.)

I've read that it is possible to listen to any redbook audio CD from the pce/turbografx CD super card (on real hardware at least), but I can't find how to actually do it. Or figure out if its possible in mister. If I load say a Sega CD image with some redbook tracks, I just get "load error" when pressing start. I can't figure out any othe...

Re: Amiga VGA Output Should it Fill The Screen?

The whole PAL vs NTSC thing is a bit of a rabbit hole anyway. It's not always crystal clear what the intended resolution was supposed to be, and then you also have the nostalgia factor clouding the issue. It’s not that complicated (although of course people would run NTSC games like Defender of the Crown incorrectly in PAL at the time since their ...

2nd. Would saves states be just as hard to add to the Nuked MD core as the current core we use? :) Yes, because Nuked MD isn't build from scratch to support save states either. From what I understand, it requires buulding the system so the whole thing can be frozen by a component (allowing to swap out CPU registries etc). Original hardware does no...

Re: Stumped with what could be wrong?

The two boards are powered separately in this setup. My guess is that your power supply isn't sufficient to run both boards at the same time. You might verify look at the amp/wattage. The one that terasic provides for the de-10 is 5V 2A/10 W. That one might not be enough for USB depending upon what devices you attach there. I upgraded to this 5V 4A...

Re: MiSTer Nuked-MD MegaDrive Core

Mostly agree for Mister overall but the A1200 example is well outside the bounds of "good enough." Its much faster than the real thing, like a turbo switch you can't shut off, which causes much software to run very differently. I think with the A1200 it depends on use. For me using it for games combined with MegaAGS/Vision it fine, The A...

Re: Amiga VGA Output Should it Fill The Screen?

Yeah in addition, if you are using real analog output, most of the video settings do nothing. They are there to tweak HDMI/vga_scaler output.

Definitely a core I wish had CRT vertical and horizontal adjustments like some of Jotego's arcade cores!

Re: MiSTer Nuked-MD MegaDrive Core

One very interesting feature of this core is that it supports pause-on-menu. I remember fpgaspazumpass saying that being able to stop a core was an important step towards implementing save states, so maybe that could possibly be in this core's future, which would be a huge leg up over the other one for me.

Re: MiSTer not working with BVM CRT

Whether using analog I/O or direct video, its the same process: a digital video signal has to be converted to analog once at some point. The only thing that changes is whether the I/O board or your HDMI->VGA converter does the DAC. Your PVM should just directly turn the analog into light so its not like its converting back to digital or anything. (...

Re: Setup for High Resolution?

I never even heard of 960p on the Atari ST. Apparently it was for the Atari TT030 , a briefly-living prerunner to the Falcon. The driver even seems to suggets its for TT030 ("30 compatible") as well as an ST family emulator. I'm not surprised if the current core has zero support for this, since its focused on the ST-STE range, but maybe t...

Re: Are You Going to Re-Configure Your MiSTer Setup for Dual RAM?

We're seeing more options opening up for s-video direct-video. I think that can be overcome if its your only hang-up. That said there's a bunch of great MK ports on other cores (e.g. MK Trilogy on playstions, Arcade Edition hack on 32x), and I'm waiting to see how MARS shakes out rather than buying half a new Mister setup. Re: MiSTer not working with BVM CRT

composite_sync=1 pushes all the sync into the hsync. I think that's probably the grey, but you could try the black if not. Connect that to sync on the right side, along with R G B. That said, its worth testing that your converter works in the first place if you can. Sometimes its troublesome getting direct_video to work with some converters at all....

Re: MiSTer not working with BVM CRT

If you only connect RGB cables you have to be using sync-on-green right? (RGsB) Mister I/O board will output that with a switch flipped. Its not easy to do the same with direct_video and standard hdmi->VGA converter, there's no SoG signal, so will need one of the other cables for composite (H/V) sync.

Re: Cannot change resolution for ao486 on 15khz 1084s monitor

direct_video=1 so your video_mode is being completely ignored. Ao486 has some kind of default resolution/scaling it will do with direct_video, its not designed to be pretty but will at least get a stable image on 15khz. Set direct_video=0 in [ao486] if you want your mode to do anything at all.

Re: Is It Possible to Map a Button to an Arcade Stick (In This Case F12) So It’s Permanent?

Remap keyboard lets you link any controller button with any keyboard key, but its temporary. Assign/define buttons are remembered per core, but its only whatever buttons the core exposes in that list. "Menu" should (must?) be set in the main/menu core. Go to define buttons and define away. That will also set up some defaults for use in va...

If you have a PVM I would certainly try it. You can get great results from all of those consoles and the Mister with it, though its sounds like it is limited to 15khz. 5x Tink is a great compliment to get all those consoles running on a TV but it sounds weird to be buying one just now for it. You can run everything through the tink but its kind of pointless IMO, since you're converting from analog to digital back to analog again. I would just stick to the consoles where you need something like it: SNES, PS2, maybe gamecube, connect it via hdmi->vga adapter. Get a passive VGA switch instead and you can switch between multiple devices. Dr...
