Re: X68000 Beta - Updates and Releases
You can explore the contents of those floppies either within Human68k or one of those Windows programs that can open X68000 floppies. If there's a file called INSTALL.X or similar, that's probably what you need to run. You may need to set up a harddrive image with Human68k first.

Re: X68000 Beta - Updates and Releases
Not sure what everyone else is using, but the most updated version right now appears to be in the MiSTer-devel repo: https://github.com/MiSTer-devel/X68000_MiSTer
It has the FX68K CPU core as well as Jotego's YM2151 core, and more. I'll be using this one whenever the next release is out.

Re: MiSTer Pre-build
There is latency from multiple sources to account for: -The game device (Arcade, console, MiSTer, PC) -Controller -Your display -The game itself (some games have several frames of input lag on real hardware) Ideally, all of these should be as low as possible for a good gaming experience. If one of these is lacking, the latency may or may not be not...

Is the chip alone subsidized though? I thought the DE10-nano was subsidized, and Analogue for example are not using this board.

Re: DualSense
I'm testing my DualSense (USB) right now on a fresh MiSTer install. It kinda works but could be better. The D-Pad works fine in-game but has issues in MiSTer's menu. The left analog stick doesn't work at all. If I have the DualSense connected on boot, it will stall my USB drive until it times out. The DualSense appears to work perfectly on my PC. U...

Re: New hardware platforms for MiSTer?
You can already buy a full MiSTer build with SDRAM, USB, a case and everything from a few sellers. While it may not be perfect, I think it's good enough for most users. In my opinion, what would really set your product apart, would be a better FPGA chip. I know that FPGAzumSpass for example cancelled his Nintendo DS core due to the lack of logic el...

Re: Classic Synth Cores?
I know that Jotego once toyed with the idea of an MT-32 FPGA core. I don't know if this is something that he will explore further in the future or not. I feel like I should mention that MAME has a number of synth drivers. Most of them are very underdeveloped but some of them seem pretty good. Not FPGA but it might be more attractive for some people...

Re: X68000 Core On 15KHz TV?
While the X68000 is capable of outputting 15khz, this is software-dependent. A lot of games and other software, including the Human68k command prompt, use a higher resolution. Even games that you might think are 15khz sometimes turn out to have been line-doubled on real hardware. So while I'm hoping that the core's internal scaler eventually gets r...

There are no legal obstacles to making a core. If a firmware or ROM is required, then you simply tell users the correct filename and hash and let them figure out how to acquire it.

Re: Widescreen Super Mario World ROM Hack Possible?
The author of the SMW widescreen hack said that it could work on the Super NT. So I'm guessing that it could work on the MiSTer as well, if anyone decides to implement widescreen support in the SNES core.

Re: Questions about AO486 and beyond - special arcade project
I would suggest that you experiment with existing "240p" games first and see how comfortable you can make the experience. A game can be added to your DOS autoexec.bat, giving you an "autoboot" experience. Does the video chip in ao486 support 15khz? If not, maybe the image would need to be downscaled by MiSTer's scaler. As for JA...

There are (at least) two fantasy FPGA console projects that look a bit interesting:

They won't play any Pico-8 games though.

Re: PICO-8 Possible?
Pico-8, like Löve/love2d, EasyRPG and others, is a game engine. So the first question to ask is, can it run on an existing core? Is there a Pico-8 port for DOS or Windows 9x (ao486), or the Amiga (Minimig)? Another alternative is to design a completely new console core around Pico-8's requirements. These games run almost entirely on the CPU with no...

We should be happy about what has been accomplished so far.
Seems like the remaining work is mainly about polish. Easier said than done, but Laxer and Ultra did get a lot done. Whoever decides to pick this up will be in a much better position than he would have been otherwise.

Just keep in mind that some people have had issues with MIDI over USB. Of course if you already got a MIDI-USB adapter lying around, it doesn't hurt to try it out.

Re: MiSTer Freesync and LG CX TVs - Not Possible?
Which refresh rates work will depend on the TV. My particular TV is not VRR, but it is pretty tolerant and will generally work fine with anything close to 60hz. Only with the NeoGeo core do I have to set the MiSTer to vsync adjust=0. But a lot of displays are more sensitive. What's weird is that every core's refresh rate is well within your TV's Fr...

Re: MiSTer Freesync and LG CX TVs - Not Possible?
Do you experience these problems when VRR/Freesync mode is turned off in the TV's settings? If so, do you know what the TV's "Freesync range" is? If it is something like 50-75hz, it "should" just work, as 59hz and 60.10hz are within that range. MiSTer has no support for Freesync, but you don't really need it. All consoles have a...

You can look up which emulators you would use on a Pi, and test them out on your PC first. If you like the experience, a Pi might be fine for your needs.

Re: What Do You Think Will Happen Once MiSTer Reaches It's Limits?
So, if emulation running at 4k is a hack then so is the Mister. No core is "running at 4k" or "running at 1080p". The core runs at 240p or whatever the console is designed for. Then the MiSTer's scaler upscales the image as a post-processing step. Emulators of 2D consoles generally work the same way. The emulated console is ren...

but then go on to post "Inaccurate emulation" as if ALL emulation is inaccurate, Nope. There are quite a few accurate emulators, just not so much when you get to Dreamcast and beyond. And there is no FPGA core implementing such consoles either. If emulators running at 4k is a hack, then what is the Mister running at 4k ? Taking a 240p im...

Re: What Do You Think Will Happen Once MiSTer Reaches It's Limits?
I don't think that it's because "there isn't enough cpu power". It's because true cycle accurate ps2 emulation is exceedingly difficult to ever accomplish because it is a very complex system. The Dreamcast and Gamecube are probably easier despite being faster systems. I don't entirely disagree with this. But I think that complexity also ...
