Re: N64 Core Possibility? (Update! Robert Is Working On This Core!)

At least thanks to the cartridges, Nintendo didn't have to worry about the massive piracy that crippled the PSX (and Saturn) in some markets. Although some could argue that increased PSSX popularity, I still think it hurt games sales. Attach rate + total sales doesn't pan out on this one. The PSX destroyed the N64. Nintendo fucked around and found...

Re: Sega Saturn Core in Development

CHD will definitely happen. There's no reason why CHD support wouldn't work or be added to Saturn since the PSX, Sega CD, a0486, and TurboGrafx CD all support it. It'll probably take zakk looking into it, but that'll come once the core is in a much more mature state.

It’s a neat idea regardless if it’s feasible or not. The Intellivision and ColecoVision cores could really benefit if the side art were the overlays.

Re: N64 Core Possibility? (Update! Robert Is Working On This Core!)

I keep seeing people saying a new FPGA board in the next 5-10 years, yet I think a successor board is sooner than people realize. The chip shortage really did screw things up, but I think we're about 2-4 years away from an affordable and new more powerful FPGA board that can run the N64/DS. There are already boards that exist that can run the N64 e...

Re: Sega Saturn Core in Development

Now that we know that srg320 is safe (thank God), does anyone know if he's able to work on the core atm? Last I heard, his internet and phone was cut off due to the war. He mentioned that he'll continue to work on the core, and srg320 seems like the type of fellow to bury himself in his work, especially in such a difficult time. I'm just curious i...

Second this! Also, would be great to do this for bios files too. The bios show up in the Intellivision core root and it's annoying :)

Re: My favorite things about the MiSTer FPGA

I second everything you mentioned. Love MiSTerKun being the mascot btw. Would be cool is MiSTerkun got his own game some day. Maybe someone could create an endless runner core from the ground up for fun just for MiSTerkun and could be a MiSTer exclusive lol. It could play like the dinosaur Chrome game xD. I'd like that to be the only closed-source ...

Re: Release DE10 Nano Overclock Kernel BETA

Very cool development! Just curious about the possibilities. Does this mean that some cores that were impossible may be more realistic (a.k.a. N64; which I know is a longshot due to it requiring too much memory, but maybe a hybrid approach is possible with this), or is it more likely that it'll just be a performance boost for existing and new cores?

8BitDo Pro 2 Wired Controller for Xbox Series X doesn't work on MiSTer

This new Xbox 8BitDo controller doesn't work on MiSTer: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07P5K93ZN/ I got a preassembled MiSTer from MiSTer Addons and the MiSTer works flawlessly for me with every controller I've thrown at it, except this one. The controller's home button does flash, so it is being recognized (maybe standby or sync mode), but when I try ...

Re: Atari Jaguar Core

Yeah with all due respect to Jotego who's an absolute FPGA legend, I'm not a fan of his calling "dibs" on console cores and then putting them and other cores on the backburner. Who knows if NGPC will even release this year. The progress is quite slow since the CPU isn't even complete yet and he's been working on that for the last quarter....

Re: Atari Jaguar Core

I don't think there's any point in debating a CD feature as long as the core is in such a state that almost nothing is running. I'm also not sure if anyone dares to take on the project after all these years. I wouldn't say almost nothing is running. Afaik, many games are running, they're just not stable enough to be played. This core will need a l...

Re: Atari Jaguar Core

Can anyone report how Alien vs Predator works currently?? This core has very little implemented besides the 68000 CPU. I think it runs five games and it hasn't been worked on in two years now. The Jaguar core has the 68000, the OS rom, the cart bus, the dram bus, and Tom and Jerry both fully implemented by converting atari's own netlists. The issu...

Re: 32X

Yeah I'm not the biggest 32X fan in the world, but at the end of the day it still is a Sega console. That alone puts it ahead of many other consoles like the Watara Supervision or the Mega Duck or even stuff like the PC-FX. The 32X is similar to the Virtual Boy imo being that they're both consoles with very limited libraries, but the fact that they...

More units sold means more people involved in the project which means more users which means more people donating to Patreon accounts which means more development costs being reduced. More people also means more potential developers. The DE-10 is a product so the more appealing it can be, the more users will take the plunge and buy a MiSTer. Sure i...

Re: Unlicensed Gameboy Game Support

Thanks for responding @paulbnl! It’s great that you’re looking into a solution for this. Many thanks! Is it possible to make auto-detection work for these unlicensed games or is it too difficult w/out toggling a setting in the OSD? If it’s too difficult, is it possible to make unique file extensions so the core can auto-recognize the mapper like ho...

Re: 32X

Im sorry if I sound like a broken record, but that’s one of the unique selling propositions that the MiSTer can have over its already stellar value. If we could have a perfect recreation of less popular consoles like the 32X, Atari Jaguar (especially the CD, which has no emulator) and the 3DO, it’d make MiSTer even more appealing!

Re: Amiga CD32

Fair enough @kathleen. Getting every Amiga game regardless of model is the best way to go about it. It seems that adding to the existing Amiga core is the best way to get complete CDTV compatability. Having an Amiga CD32 and its Akiko chip as well as a working CDTV is essential in order to make the Minimig core complete. I'm just asking if either a...

Re: Amiga CD32

On the topic of the Sega CD, yes it has a lot more hardware capabilities than the Sega Genesis, so that's why it's a seperate core. It's not a simple CD add-on like the TurboGrafx CD. For example, it has Mode 7 capabilities as shown in the bonus stages of Sonic CD. Here's an interesting idea: if the Amiga core gets CD32 support, why can't it be inc...

Re: 32X

Star Wars has exclusive levels on the 32X so that's a big reason for a core. Virtua Racing Deluxe is the best version according to many. Plus, it's a Sega console so that alone is reason to justify it. There are about 10 games worth playing on the 32X. That's more than some consoles that already have cores like the Channel F. Knuckles Chaotix is al...

I'm not going to play armchair developer, but it's reasonable to assume about 20% of the 32X core will have been already completed with the completion of the Saturn core. Still, it'd be much more logical to go straight to getting all the ST-V arcade games in working order after the Saturn core is complete since the Saturn and ST-V are essentially i...

The thing that's appealing about the prospects of a CD32 is threefold: 1) It is the definitive version of the Amiga games (since it has CD audio support) 2) It's backwards compatible with the CDTV (Wikipedia states that it isn't compatible with earlier CDTV games, but I don't know the accuracy of that claim).
