This collection is amazing! I really like the curation across different kind of criteria, it helps a lot to find something fun to play. Just a small comment - "Lorna" is not a French game but Spanish... maybe a section can be added for Spanish-made games? (Dinamic, Opera Soft, Topo Soft, Zigurat, etc - not all are good but it's a specific...

I'm fine with anything. I enjoy all "garbage" systems as much as the popular ones, if the dev is motivated to work on it and the system has games we can try out.

i'd love to see an Alice90 implementation for completeness (but not holding my breath)

Joycons work with MiSTer so assuming its the same bluetooth protocol, it should work too.

I've just tried with the 1.03.00 Bios and I do confirm that the programs work with this Bios on my side as well. Unfortunately not really usable on a long term as you mentioned for incompatibilities concerns with other apps/games. Maybe we should add a note to the core readme to say which software need a specific BIOS version? (or link to a text f...

When I was able to play Quake II on the PSX core, I thought to myself it should also be possible in ao486.

It's not a fair comparison though; the PSX version was optimized for the hardware and used a GPU, which does not exist in ao486. Not sure if a 3dfx voodoo 1 would work with a 486, but it would be hard to write and fit in the current core.

There's also a part of Takeshi's challenge where you have to "sing" - although maybe just blowing into it is enough.

I think we need a Mister II

The issue is not MiSTer but the FPGA device required.

Some more capable FPGAs already exist but they cost more than a thousand US dollars. I doubt there will be many people willing to invest in that!

Would be hilarious if it ends up being the PC-FX. I'm interested in it due to being NEC's last console but I have to admit the games aren't very good (and for the most part not playable in English). I do hope it's the Virtual Boy. The 3D part can be delegated to the screen using a side-by-side display. Or even combined in a fake 3D you could rotate...

Save states require a significant core rewrite. And the ones that Robert did were written from scratch with those features in mind. So this isn't a small bugfix or enhancement you can do in a couple of weekends. And for those talking about money incentives, a few tips on patreon or kofi won't even begin to cover the time and dedication this require...

I'm not sure if it's possible to install every floppy to hard drive - eg PC Booters?

For that you can just switch the BIOS to match. Is there a specific one that is not usable?

I split my floppies in different folders by file size, so I don't have to guess the size when loading one.

The issue what that is that it requires an Internet connection. But yes, good thinking to bring this up, at I think it should be relevant :)

it works by running a local program, so a Linux based front end could do all the same features.

I fact I wonder if you could just run EmulationStation and invoke a core or load MGL files...

Re: Issues with certain floppy images

It's a BIOS limitation. From the core's documentation:

pcxt wrote:

On IBM 5160 or Tandy 1000 only 360Kb images work well.
On Micro8088 only 720Kb and 1.44Mb images work properly.

Just install what you want to run in an HDD and it will work fine.

The menu OSD inside every individual core should remain completely unchanged. So yes, this is pretty much just an idea for a launcher.

There is this already, have you seen it?
https://github.com/nilp0inter/MiSTer_WebMenu

It allows you to launch cores and games from another device in your network (say an iPad or iPhone)

Re: Is it possible to make a MiSTer frontend via a front end core?

Do you want a launcher or a front end? A launcher that works as an alternative to menu.rbf is doable, maybe requiring some extra features in MiSTer's firmware to control launching other cores if different to what menu.rbf already supports. Replacing the menu inside cores (an OSD), forget it. That will need recompiling every core and take up more re...

Re: Would Cloud FPGA Gaming be feasible down the road?

Sure FPGA should help compensate for some of the video and input lag, but you will still have an experience similar to using an emulator locally (if not worse). The main bottleneck I see here is nobody will put an FPGA over the network. Cloud solutions work for many use cases needing a GPU (not just games) so companies have an incentive to provide ...

Wihout source code, it's going to be a difficult rewrite.

There is code availabble for a 186 class CPU,

But it is not cycle acciratr like the CPU behind PCXT (MCL86), so its doubtlful if will be beneficial to port that core, versus just slowing ao486 down (as can currently be done)

I use the simple launcher. Yes you have to select the startup file but the launcher is also very basic so not suited for massive collections. I have maybe 50-60 games on it so it is manageable. What I do is setup the launcher on my PC first, so incremental updates are very quick. If you want to speed it up you can edit the install .bat file to make...

There are 3D displays that can take side-by-side video from HDMI. That would work nicely

You can save INI settings per core, but not "profiles" for one single core.

The only exception is the Amiga core, it has profiles for CPU and memory settings.

That said, you might be able to control a core startup sertings via MGL files:
