Re: Apple II Core

[AppleWin might do keyboard scanning or something to see that you pressed the right Alt key, but the MiSTer doesn't do that. At least in my experience. Try this and press the Right Alt key. Both Alt's light up. https://www.keyboardtester.com/ So I just tested with my keyboard, and you're right; the MiSTer core is treating both Alt keys as Btn 1. B...

Re: Apple II Core

] I found the problem: the game was stored in a single ZIP file, containing multiple disk images, taking advantage of the Mister framework support for ZIP files to be seen as folders. However, this seems to not be supported by this core (not sure if other cores supports it, if they need to write back to a disk image rather than saving to some cart...

Re: Replacement of ao486?

A new x86 PC project could probably be great, but I also think that unless it is some highly experienced and skilled FPGA developer it could take a year or more to implement well I forgot how long it took for the PCXT core to mature but it was probably around a year... for something even simpler than a 386. Spark2k06 did a great job writing new fe...

Thanks! Sounds great, except as mentioned, I have no Right Alt. I am not sure how AppleWin handles this for US Keyboards What keyboard do you have? I've always had right alt on my US keyboards, but maybe its labeled something else in yours For serial, its the same UART option as in ao486 ajd other cores. We need a Reset button. Other key suggestions: F2 - 80/40 (this is a toggle switch on my Apple IIc, not sure about IIe), F3 - Keyboard (this is a toggle switch on my Apple IIc, For these I'd prefer to use the same conventions as AppleWin - so it will be more seamless to use either the emulator or MiSTer: Left Alt = Open Apple Right Alt = Closed Ap...

I have some disk fixes to test..

Some tests I've done:

  • Speed test (Birth of the Phoenix custom loader): sector/track read works at expected speed

  • ACS game creation: worked with 2 disks

  • Wizardry1: able to create characters

Working great so far!

Re: MiSTer is 6 Years Old!! Happy Birthday !!!

Another great year, happy birthday MiSTer! For me the MiSTer had the opposite effect... I ended up getting more into real hardware than before. Granted it's mostly items that are MiSTer compatible (controllers, PVMs, etc.) so it all nicely complements each other. Recently I treated myself to have selection of games running in parallel (like an Arca...

Re: MisterFPGA Analog I/O and Scaler: Interlaced signal compatibility?

The scaler is normally only for the HDMI output (it can be turned on for VGA via INI , but not the default setting)

So, yes, I expect the unscaled interlaced output to work as the original console

Worth checking the SD card. Some cards refuse to write if they are fragmented or corrupted. See if it still happens with a fresh SD card.

The nice effect of chroma in composite colors vs. RGB

I've been playing the PC Engine library on real hardware, and I was surprised at how good the composite output looked on one of my PVMs! Older games have more vibrant colors and anime-style games look more like something on TV. At first I assumed it was just the composite palette... but I was wrong. Comparing MiSTer RGB output on the same PVM with ...

Re: ZX Spectrum Recreated Would Work as Bluetooth Keyboard With MiSTer?

Another option is to use a real Spectrum and convert it to USB: https://hackaday.io/project/2076/instructions I did this years ago when I was given a broken Spectrum. I used it with a Raspberry Pi and Spectrum emulator. There is also a switch to toggle Keymaps. After some time I decided to relook at the Spectrum and managed it fix it (ram chip fai...

the community will have a tremendous incentive to find the next platform (playing N64 and possibly even DS with all the work Robert has also put in there!). This 100%. MiST and later MiSTer gave a home to many cores that came before them. So having cores that don't fit on a. MiSTer will eventually make a bigger device interesting. perhaps someone ...

a lot of the other categories are highly subjective and made just to make it a bit more fun to explore the game library based on various perspectives.

that's totally fine... and I like the appoach. Mostly i was asking to keep the same "spirit" of selection. Would you guys prefer highlights or a more complete list?

Results: 3DO, CDi, N-Gage, NDS or the N64

I think it's the 3DO, it sold a few millions and has some unique quirky games that sold well.

But even if I'm wrong. I'm happy to have a new core coming up for any of those systems. Can't wait to dig into a new game library!

I'm fine with anything. I enjoy all "garbage" systems as much as the popular ones, if the dev is motivated to work on it and the system has games we can try out.

i'd love to see an Alice90 implementation for completeness (but not holding my breath)

When I was able to play Quake II on the PSX core, I thought to myself it should also be possible in ao486.

It's not a fair comparison though; the PSX version was optimized for the hardware and used a GPU, which does not exist in ao486. Not sure if a 3dfx voodoo 1 would work with a 486, but it would be hard to write and fit in the current core.
