Re: Holy Grail Display for MiSTer?
If you live in Europe, don't be stubborn about finding a PVM, just a good top of the line consumer TV will do, thanks to the SCART connection.

Re: ao486 Config for a Plain Old CRT TV
For those with 15khz monitors, I finally got ao486 working perfectly on my PVM with this line (suggested earlier in the thread): video_mode=640,6,56,66,224,14,8,18,1200 It looks absolutely perfect, like it's the proper native resolution (320x200). I also changed the setting to use the native aspect ratio so that the screen isn't stretched slightly...

Re: Space Invaders - Background Graphics
The background in the original arcade was just a reflection on the glass. The game code just renders the spaceship, the aliens and the shields.
A fantastic rendition of the background and the trasparency was implemented in the Snes port. I guess maybe Taito Legends on PS2 and Xbox have it.

Re: NES Composite Output
I think that effect is created by composite video artifacts, it might require a bit of work to recreate them in the RGB/digital signal of the Mister.
The Genesis/Mega Druve core has a "composite effect", that might work if implemented in the Nes core. Maybe.

Re: SNES PAL Speed Full Screen
Often the black bars on top and bottom of bad PAL conversion are part of the image, they aren't added later by the monitor/tv. So the only option is if your tv has some option to zoom or stretch in the image (some later era CRT do).

My favorite CPS1 game, a sham that it is in a licensing hell and won't be ever re-released.

Re: Share your Super Game Boy Borders Here
is there any reason why we couldn't have 16:9 borders? If I'm not mistaken, these use the Super Gameboy functionality to display, so it's restricted to what the original hardware could show. I thought it just was able to extract the borders from the ROM like a Super Gameboy would. If it was a Super Gameboy the core would have some of the enhanceme...

I have been donating to the Patreon for a couple of years now, I am obviously sad, but I appreciate the honesty in just giving it up and not disappearing altogether.
I would obviously donate to any other Patreon who would work on the PS1 FPGA project.

Re: Scart vs VGA
I was wondering if a VGA CRT monitor would give a sharper image than a CRT TV via SCART. I think I'll stick with the CRT TV via SCART that I'm using at the moment. Thanks for all the advice :) It's a bit of a minefield.. Of course the image would be sharper. Much higher resolutions (late PC CRT were usualky 1280x1024 or even 1920x1440 and 2048x153...

Re: Scart vs VGA
I don't think you'll find many, if any, VGA monitors that could do 15hz, or even 31hz. Most are probably 50hz minimum. There are some old VGA LCD monitors that were able to do 15hz at their lowest resolution, but they often look terrible compared to a CRT. I think that maybe you are mistaking vertical refresh rate (50Hz in PAL, 60Hz in NYSC, 120Hz...

For CRT I cannot say how well this will work, but the resolution of 224x144 is not great for CRT in any case.

Re: PlayStation
I like the lowpoly, low resolution, not filtered texture look a lot. I still remember the exact feeling of the zeitgest when everybody were looking at, for example, Tomb Raider 1 thinking it was the best graphic ever, while something like Metal Slug was "just 2d, go back to the Snes!".
Personally, this is my most wished core.

Re: eXoFlynn Top 300 DOS Pack Updates and Support
As far as I've experimented, it looks like direct video is stuck on something a little higher than 640x480 with the scandoubler turned on. I don't believe this core has "genuine" analog output timings at all, in the sense that it does not reflect the emulated hardware. You're better off using the scaler to pick a useful resolution, like ...

Re: eXoFlynn Top 300 DOS Pack Updates and Support
Yes it should video output options is in the AO486 and misters main cores and have nothing do with roms/harddrives/etc. Thank you, I'll try. I was recently burned by the purchase of a Windows 10 mini pc because the Intel HD integrated gpu scale every resolution to the monitor's: great for modern fixed resolution displays, but awful for CRT monitors.

Question by a stupid man: this setup work on a real CRT 31khz monitor with the HDMI->VGA Directvideo trick?
