Re: MSX Snatcher, how to start a new game?

Tried zero "0" ? Sorry, here is "0", not "1" Cheers You posted the start up screen, I get that screen only when I'm loading the game for the first time, but I don't get it again after a "game over". This is what I get: 20220716-190456.jpg And it seems there's nothing I can do to exit from this screen.

MSX Snatcher, how to start a new game?

So, I'm playing Snatcher, the HDD installed version from Sofa. How do I start another game after the game over screen? I've tried every key of the keyboard but nothing happens (except CTRL: the music goes faster when I press it).

I just have to reset and reload the game every time?

Re: Separate Audio Output with Digital IO Board

I think that an adapter from HDMI to VGA will help me. The adapter I found has a normal output 3.5mm. I'm just not so sure if I need an extra DAC. Get something like this: 20220701-000324-crop.jpg It converts the Toslink/SPDIF optical out of the Digital I/O board to a standard 3,5 jack analog output. Here's a link where to buy one: https://aliexpr...

Re: Password "1" Not Working With SMB

Update: now that I think about it, the only changes I did to my configuration was to run "update_all" and I added an external HDD. Could one of these be the cause?

Also, is there a command to reset/change the password?

Re: Password "1" Not Working With SMB

If you are going to connect from your MiSTer to your Windows PC using SMB then you have to use an username and a password of an existing and enabled user account on your PC. You mean from the MiSTer terminal? I'm not doing that. If you are going to connect from the PC to the MiSTer and you have SMB enabled then root/1 should work. Yes, I'm on wind...

Because the popup window that asks you for the password says "root" right after the IP address

Password "1" Not Working With SMB

I'm trying to connect MiSTer to my windows 10 PC trough SMB, the PC correctly recognizes the username as "root" but the password "1" doesn't work. F9 on the MiSTer accepts the "1" password, I can freely use the terminal. Could it be that only the SMB password has changed? Is there a way to check, maybe something like &...

Re: Game Glitches on MegaAGS

Plenty of games will break on the Amiga 600 too, not all games can handle the different chip RAM setup — heck, some games on the Amiga 500 required you to remove the memory expansion. There is no “one true setup”, since there was no “one Amiga”. That's unfortunate. I'll have to give up on that. It’s a trade-off between convenience and compatibilit...

Re: Rendering Ranger R2 Black Screen

I can confirm the game is currently broken. I also tried playing on the previous core and while it did initially load it hung with a black screen while playing the first level. I’m not sure who owns the SNES core but this game needs a deep dive IMO This game pushes the limits of the SNES hard, who knows what kind of tricks Trenz used in order to m...

Re: Game Glitches on MegaAGS

If you wanted access to the AGA chipset, you were stuck with an 020 or higher, because those systems were 32-bit. The 68000 can't plug into those boards because it doesn't have enough address and data pins. If you wanted to run old games on an AGA machine, WHDLoad was pretty much the only option. Thanks for the detailed explanation, I was under th...

Hard Disk Power Draw

I've got a 2,5 SATA HDD that I could use with the MiSTer, I'm not sure how to power it though. My setup is powered with a 20W PSU (4A) that's connected to both the USB 2.0 Hub and the MiSTer itself. Most of the 2.5 HDD cases you can find today are USB 3.0 and they get power through a single USB cable, while old USB 2.0 2.5 HDD cases typically have ...

Re: Game Glitches on MegaAGS

MegaAGS generally requires 68020 and AGA. Some things may work with 68000, but it’s not a supported configuration. If you want 68000, use ADFs and Kickstart 1.2 or 1.3. (2.0 will work too, but breaks many games). Use the included configuration for MegaAGS. That's what I did, but then I changed to 68000 on the fly, right before loading a game from ...

Re: Game Glitches on MegaAGS

Yes, it’s still “virtualized” (I know, it’s not like it has hypervisors or anything, but it’s as close as you get), a hardware switch for Kickstart ROMs would be different. Would it be better? In any case, as Optiroc already stated — the best way to get close to 100% identical behavior is to use the various CPU, Kickstart and ADF settings, but for...

Re: Game Glitches on MegaAGS

It also lets the system provide old versions of Kickstart and Workbench, which many games need; ones written for Kickstart 1.3 may not work with 2.0 or higher, so WHDLoad can give the game a virtual environment with the exact Kickstart it expects. Is there any difference between this Kickstart environment and having an appropriate Kickstart rom in...

You don't wanna start this argument with me, I'm a staunch supporter of the Amiga version. It's the best home conversion of the arcade game, the Mega Drive version can't be better since it doesn't exist.😁

Re: Game Glitches on MegaAGS

On a real A500 with certain expansion boards you can use WHDLoad with full functionality. I'm doing it on mine with ACA500+. WHDLoad problems are not always caused by being run on A1200, sometimes they are universal. As far as I know many Amiga expansion boards do upgrade the CPU, so you won't be running the 68000 anymore. One solution, aside from...

Re: Game Glitches on MegaAGS

Lots of games on the Amiga were written for the 68000 only, and don't natively work on later processors. The WHDLoad framework is a method of providing a virtual Amiga with a specific hardware configuration and Kickstart image, so that floppy games can be loaded on a hard drive, but it can't provide a virtual 68000. minimig can, though WHDLoad rec...

Re: Game Glitches on MegaAGS

WHDLoad is very convenient but not problem free. Many games have glitches or some sort of functionality issues. If you spot one it's best to check with Mantis bugtracker first, because it's possible its already known and has been reported to people who make these HDD installs. None of the glitches I encountered are mentioned there. so if you don't...

Yes, please be a bit more specific. This project has been around for multiple years — not saying there aren’t still things to fix, but saying “it’s glitchy” isn’t really all that actionable. :) I've tried a couple of games, one was Shadow Dancer, we already talked about it here, then X-Out: the intro animation is glitched, and Metal Law: the chain...

Did you follow instructions bundled within MegaAGS pack in ReadMe file? Part of it is copying config file for Amiga core, and also updating main MiSTer configuration for optimal video modes. There's also warning about having enabled D-Cache option, which could result in having glitches in games. https://ia802208.us.archive.org/view_archive.php?arc...

Game Glitches on MegaAGS

Hi, I'm new to MiSTer and the first thing I tried on minimig was the MegaAgs, initially I was disappointed in the MiSTer itself because many games I tried seemed to have glitches not present on the original. But then I thought, let's try this game on ADF with an Amiga 500 configuration, I tried and... no glitches, it worked flawlessly. So, I'd like...

Is there a test program the lets you manually turn on and off the LEDs of the I/O board? (I've got the Digital 1.2). I could use that for troubleshooting purposes.

In absence of that, can you suggest a core that makes use of the central LED (the one labeled "Disk")?

By following various guides and forum posts I came up with a way to connect the Digital I/O board of the MiSTer to an A600 LED board, but I did something wrong, since they don't work properly (only one lits on). Here's how I connected it: 20220528-155744.jpg Under every shrink wrap tube there's a 300 Ohm resistor, while the red/orange/green cable i...
