OSD does not come up automatically

Unread post by Insert Disk Two »

Up until yesterday, every time I loaded up the NeoGeo core, the OSD would come up automatically so I could load a game etc. All of a sudden it doesn't any more and I have to hit F12 to bring it up manually.

Want ideas what could have happened?

Thanks!

This has always been the case for me. Maybe an ini setting?

Interesting, what could it be?

I miss this feature too, I did not change my .ini settings, so I think the recent system or core updates changed something about this.

I’ve noticed this too but I figured it was normal behavior. You can open the menu using your controller if you define your bindings. Unless you’re playing NG with a keyboard on purpose...

Bumping this thread, as I seem to have encountered a similar situation with the Genesis and TGFX16 cores, after a recent update.
I'm curious if there is a setting somewhere that would enable/disable automatic display of the OSD menu when a core is started (I looked into the .ini file doc, but couldn't find anything seemingly related to that).
It's obviously not a huge issue, but I'd be interested in knowing what causes this change of behaviour, and if there is any way to alter it.

As this behaviour appeared on other cores as well, I made a companion post to this one in the general section:

Why is this an issue? The assigned home button for OSD is one click away.

It's obv. not a huge issue at all, but in general I like to understand when things change like that for no apparent reason; I wonder what it could have been, and if it is something that can be configured somewhere, by users. Or if somehow there is something wrong with my install, maybe updates that didn't fully go through. Or if it is just like that in latest versions of cores. Just curious. ;)

I've never seen an OSD pop up when a core loads, usually I have to press F12 to get it to appear.. very strange.

Do you have a boot rom enabled to load with the core? From my experience if you have no boot rom set, the OSD pops up on core load. If you have the core set to auto load a rom, you don't get the OSD.
