Your Filesystem Is Mounted Incorrectly?

Unread post by BrunoVicious »

I just got my Multisystem from the retro mancave and I had my Mister FPGA working before but now all I am getting is an error "Your filesystem is mounted incorrectly" when I try to do an update and I cannot understand why. I tried this on two different SD cards and I get the same results.

I would hazard a guess you do not have an active internet connection on that MiSTer. If you check out the dates, they are "Thu 01 Jan 1970". Could be an IP collision problem on your local network or something more pedestrian.

I would take a look at this thread to work through your problem and report back.

Yeah, I think AngelicLiver has it nailed; you don't have a live network connection. When Mister boots, you'll normally see a little chip icon next to the Mister in the title bar; this indicates that you have RAM. Ten or fifteen seconds later, you should see a little network icon appear. Ten or fifteen seconds after that, the date and time will be displayed in the bar, meaning that you're fully booted and ready to run your update.

If you don't get a network icon or a time display, networking isn't running. One gotcha there is that the Mister comes with a default MAC address of 02:03:04:05:06:07. If you have any other Misters in your network, this will cause havoc. Each Mister needs a MAC that's unique in your network.

I've been running into this exact same issue, but mine will fail the first time and then succeed after.

I'm using the WiFi / Bluetooth adapter that Misteraddons sells and it was perfect for months/years? Something changed and now it does this on the first try every boot.

You need to make sure you have a live internet connection and that your Clock has updated to your region.
Certificates will fail as the clock is wrong.. be patient when you boot your MiSTer

Re: Your Filesystem Is Mounted Incorrectly?

If the problem is indeed caused by failure to sync time correctly, one way around the problem would probably be to add the $20 RTC board. Once the RTC is set, the Linux kernel gets the time from it during extremely early bootup, I think before filesystems are even mounted. Your time is always close to correct, even if you don't have a live network connection.

It does have to be set the first time. There's an 'rtc_on' script that I believe may be included by default, just run it from the scripts menu. It will query pool.ntp.org and then write that value to the RTC, so you need a live network for it to work.

You can also set it yourself by letting NTP do its first sync (meaning you also need a live network for this approach), and then opening a command prompt with F9 and typing:

Code: Select all

hwclock --systohc
That writes the current system time into the battery-backed clock. Once it's set, you don't need network access anymore for reasonably correct time; it'll probably drift by a few minutes a year.

edit: you can improve the drift by letting the Mister run for several days with a network connection, so that NTP stays synced, and typing:

Code: Select all

hwclock --systohc --update-drift
You don't want to do update-drift until the RTC has been set and both system and regular clocks have been running a few days continuously, with the NTP service live and updating the main system clock.
