I know about that but as I just setup my MISTer to use symlinks I wanted to be sure that everything works properly. So far it does.

You can use this for now, it's the final release candidate which he already made public awhile ago. It's the one that still has some of the bugs he was working to address regarding the 68k I think.
20210618 is a 'shareware' core for me, requires beta.zip
Oh that sucks. I thought only System16 was impacted by that change. :(

Jotego indicated that the "stable" repository will be updated only a few times a year so you have either to use the beta settings or manually download from jtbin.

Let's not panic, JT fixed the issue approximately 0.2 seconds after.

Run update_all again

Some CPS2 roms are <= 32MB and won't run properly with only 32MB SDRAM.
This is what I found so far:
All ROMs will "load" without crashing MISTer.

Some will present a totally messed up screen and will be totally unplayable:
Cyberbots Full Metal Madness
Hyper Street Fighter 2 - Than anniversary Edition
Mars Matrix Hyper Solid Shooting
Marvel Super Heroes
Marvel Super Heroes vs Street Fighter
Marvel vs Capcom Clash of Super Heroes
Night Warriors Darkstalkers Revenge
Street Fighter Alpha 3
Vampire Hunter 2 Dark Stalkers Revenge
Vampire Savior 2 The Lord of Vampire (both versions)
X-Men Children of the Atom
X-Men vs Street Fighter

One has a screen not so much messed up:
Darkstalkers The Night Warrior
Not really playable as yourself or your opponent will be messed up at the beginning, I suppose it will get worse as one progresses during the game.

I suppose there are other roms which will exhibit problems later on during the game.

Does anyone has a list of all the roms >= 32MB?

There is a list in Jotego´s repository where you can easily find what games need more than 32MB:

https://github.com/jotego/jtbin/tree/master/mister/cps2

However, being under 32MB on that list does not guaranteed that the game works flawlessly. For example, 1944 sums over 29.5MB but shows graphical glitches that make it unplayable.

Is there any point in using or keeping the update_jotego.sh script if update_all with 'Install beta cores' set to true is required to download the latest publically available Jotego cores? Or has it already been deprecated?

You don't need it, update all downloads it (I suppose in a temp folder). It even does not do the updates, it downloads all the other update scripts which are the ones doing the updates.

Is CPS2 included in Update_All.sh as it only downloads CPS1 to 1.5 for me.

It doesn't seem to check for CPS2 files?

Enable beta for Jotego

Enable beta to get CPS2.

If you have beta disabled, it checks:
https://github.com/JTFPGA/JTSTABLE/wiki

If you have beta enabled, it checks:
https://github.com/jotego/jtbin/wiki

See:

Beta is enabled in my jotego updte_all settings - it doesn't download CPS2 from jtbin, where CPS2 currently resides.

Is CPS2 available for all or is a beta key still needed?

If beta is enabled it should download it when using update all script. The core is in beta but is public, no key needed. Correction on the quote you posted: if beta is enabled it checks both in JTSTABLE and jtbin. At some point mentioned something which makes me think that it is (also?) in JTSTABLE but I am not sure. What I can tell you is that if you enable beta you should get it where ever it is located. It worked for me.

you have to make sure to set to true in update all settings for jotego core and SAVE.

If you just set and go back to menu and abort it wont work.

I just checked on Github, it is only in jtbin, not JTSTABLE. So you must use the beta option. You should have a update_all.ini in the Scripts directory, check that it contains the following line:
DOWNLOAD_BETA_CORES="true"

Thanks, I had to manually add the above to the script, it now downloads CPS2

I added it to my update_all.ini, but it didn't work :(

This is what my INI file looks like, am I missing anything?

Code: Select all

MAIN_UPDATER_INI="update.ini"
JOTEGO_UPDATER_INI="update_jtcores.ini"
UNOFFICIAL_UPDATER_INI="update_unofficials.ini"
LLAPI_UPDATER_INI="update_llapi.ini"
BIOS_GETTER="false"
MAME_GETTER="false"
HBMAME_GETTER="false"
ARCADE_ORGANIZER="false"
DOWNLOAD_BETA_CORES="true"

You need to add the DOWNLOAD_BETA_CORES to update_jtcores.ini not update_all.ini

Or just use the configuration mode of update_all and set it that way

Funny, there's no update_jtcores.ini in my Scripts folder. What a complete confusing mess this update process is.

Just delete your update_all.ini, start update_all script, when it starts press the up arrow and configure what you want to enable. Don't forget to save and execute the script.

Edit: I see that you have llapi stuff in your ini file. Do you use llapi?
Your update_all.ini has so much stuff in it.
Mine, created by the using the configuration screen has only:
UNOFFICIAL_UPDATER="true"
BIOS_GETTER="false"
BIOS_GETTER_INI="update_all.ini"
DOWNLOAD_BETA_CORES="true"

Sorry if I missed it, but what's the trick for getting the CPS2 games to run after going public? Everything worked prior to this, but right now, they're only showing a black screen upon boot-up.

Steps taken so far, followed the instructions 'letter-perfect' using the update_all script, even downloaded the new beta.zip for the month of July, sadly nothing! Any ideas I might have overlooked?

Nobody else experienced this issue with the 7/2 updates from Jotego's CPS2? It was suggested on Patreon that the black screen is a result of not seeing the rom file, yet before the update, it worked fine. The rom files are still there, just as they were prior to the update. The only changes are the 7/2 .mra files. What could have gone wrong in the span of 1 update?

Thank you for the reply. Yeah, everything is on SD except for the CD systems which I have on USB. Matter of fact, this is even a fresh install from early Jun, again with everything working perfect. Even had some friends over last week throwing around a few games of Marvel vs Capcom. Not one hiccup, until the 7/2 updates and the core going public. It's like something broke in the execution of the rom. I've walked away a few times, but I just can't wrap my head around it.

Very strange!
You could try to delete the CPS2 rbf, all the mras related to CPS2, all the roms related to CPS2 and re-run the update all script making sure that beta is enabled for jotego.

You know what's funny? It's the jtcps2_20210702.rbf that I believe is the primary cause of this. Per your advice though, would you believe I did that, twice already, just in hopes the first time I might have overlooked something. From your experience, is there anything in the rbf that points to a directory or looks for a certain prerequisite before loading the game?

What bothers me the most is, why only on my system? I have the same hardware as everyone else, my MemTest passes without issue, and I'm using the same script that I'm sure everyone else is using. Despite my current CPS2 issues, I'd say my MiSTer runs quite flawless.
